  1. I saw her fall into the water from high up. But her name is Fish, so... By the time S2 ends up on Netflix, a year from now, odds are I'll probably sample it again.
  2. Yes, that was the first thing I noticed right off the bat from the first episode onwards. The entire show has this 1930's pre-Batman noir look and feel to it, and the cell phones just seem so out of place whenever they use them on the show. They're going for "timeless" but the result is distracting and disorienting. You end up with a Gotham City that couldn't/wouldn't exist anywhere at any time. And the worst effect is continuously being yanked out of the story by attention-grabbing elements that don't work together. But ratings are high and in tv-land that's success. It's connecting some how.
  3. Yep. I finished Season 1 but think I'll let Gotham go. Too much quality fare out there to force feed on crud. The last few S1 episodes I fast-forwarded through any Fish scenes because I didn't care at all what happened to her character. And the rest was a muddy mess. One scene they're on cell phones, the next scene looks like 1930's complete with tommy guns and fedoras. I know Gotham gets good ratings, but it's for somebody else.
  4. Good luck with that. Out of curiosity I imdb'd the Director, Sam Liu, and he has a ton of credits...as a storyboard artist. So, who knows. I just chalk the mess up to a Bruce Timm vanity project that didn't quite gel. And if anyone's earned the right to at least one 'unique vision' semi-flop, it's Bruce Timm. Overall JL G&M suffers from two major sins, (A) no character to care about or root for, and (B) boring voicework. imho.
  5. Hulk's wondering how he ended up in the DCU. What a great display!
  6. Here's that Enterprise final scene (UFP being adopted/computer end program). Archer's founding years and the impact they left on Federation Space, the continuing legacy of...Enterprise.
  7. I just hated the way they ended it. The whole dam series was a holonovel? Wait, what??? No, I didn't get that at all. The series was being canceled and the last episode was a wrap-up. Riker was used to study "history" via their Holodeck of what ultimately happened. Archer's 'Star Fleet Command' evolving into "The United Federation of Planets". Riker was trying to help himself make a decision and studying Archer's crew and ways. Anyway, it tied all 3 series into a timeline. Archer's beginning, Kirk's 5 year mission and Next Generation's explorations. That was my take. Yes it was forced and gimmicky, but way, way better than leaving it hanging.
  8. Wow, really? About the only criticism I have of Arrow, which is excellent, is thinking they miscast Laurel and Sara for each others roles. One comes across 'soap opera', the other a well rounded actor deserving of a permanent role. imho.
  9. And that doesn't take into account the (large?) number who had already viewed the opener when it leaked to the web. It will be interesting to see how many of those pre-viewers show up for #2 and on.
  10. I remember during MOS thinking 'uh oh' as it hit me they're doing a Miracleman 15 treatment. The in-your-face reality of two superbeings going at it. Wondering if audiences where ready for it. Good thing or a bad thing is opinion. All I'll say is if they're going to drag Superman (and the DCU) into OUR world there's going to be an ugly side. No way around it. Just go watch a couple of Superman Animated or Batman Animated episodes and imagine all the destroyed cityscape they show being real-world destruction.
  11. Slowly going through S3 on Netflix and becoming more impressed by the episode. I have around 10 episodes to go. Arrow, combined with The Flash, is doing some pretty impressive world-building. Ras al Ghul was a nice surprise and the unfolding arc is a reminder of why I'm such a DC Comics fan. It's so great to have another venue to get my DC-fix besides DC Animation. Arrow (and The Flash) is quality storytelling that delivers the goods.
  12. Boondock Saints rip-off to try and sell more tickets? Oh, ok. Sort of like in Pulp Fiction. Angel of death on a mission from god banter to be all scary-cool and such.
  13. What's up with Deadshot's "I Am The Light, The Way", printed on his collar and stamped into both his wrist-guards? Is that from the comics? Deadshot depicted as having a christ-complex or something? The quote isn't biblical, but has that ring to it. Is there a story behind it?
  14. The article Kagenish posted spells it out. And I quote (ready??, here it comes)... "Suicide Squad producer Charles Roven also chimed in by revealing that the villain's dress sense has been inspired by Mexican cartels..." And there you have it. Joker is a Mexican Cartel fashionista.
  15. What material are such massive props made from (why are they pink)? Is it some kind of blown-foam? Do they set up giant molds on site and spray in stuff that expands and hardens? Thanks, and I'll take my answer off the air.
  16. Hell yeah. Go all Leeloo with the bandages and open up a fresh new cosplay niche. Do it, Hollywood. Do it.
  17. I'll try Calcnerd, I'll try. Have to say this: Fish popping out her eyeball and squishing it with her shoe. That couldn't have been any dumber if she had peeled off her entire face revealing she's Ethan Hunt on a mission. Good grief. The main thing, hell, the only thing making S1 Gotham tolerable right now is Morena Baccarin (Firefly, Homeland). The cost in brain cell die-off is high, but she's worth it. Big fan. (thumbs u
  18. Still struggling to get through S1 on Netflix. There was a scene (S1E18 "Everyone Has a Cobblepot") where a woman just threw down her weapon, turned to run and instantly collided with the bar right behind her. The momentum bent her at the waist and she banged her head on the bar, slid to the floor out cold. It was a quick scene, but come on. Really? WTF Gotham? Stuff like that is beyond ridiculous. That level of cartoonish stupidity, combined with the cartoonish sets, clothes and cars, makes that 'Batman and Robin' movie look like 'The Godfather' by comparison. I get how fun it is to see new interpretations of characters we know. I really do. But Gotham seems to run between borderline-horrible and outright-horrible most of the time.
  19. That falls within what we were discussing about MCS. They're conservative graders (probably increases customer satisfaction while reducing returns) and might go 5.0/5.5 on what we're seeing. I know I could swing over there right now and start posting images from that range, but it would just clutter up the board. I mean, visually that book shows an overall well-read softness, corner creases and tics of a "used book" of the mid-range variety.
  20. Then forget grade and just say what you see. I'm curious if we're all seeing the same book. There's the upper left corner, both staple areas, spine tics, bottom left corner, right bottom corner. That's what I'm seeing. No?
  21. Thank you. I thought "5.5" myself, but 5.0 might be closer to reality. It makes me wonder if there's some massive opportunity to snag MCS offerings, then directly over to CGC for an uptick. Toss in fluff services and the mind boggles.
  22. Damn. Seeing stuff like that makes me think of books I've sent to MCS for ultra-strict grading/auctioning. That CGC 8.5, if cracked out and sent in for auction, what do you think it would grade on MCS, realistically? I know what I think I would get if it were mine, but I'm curious what others think they'd get.
  23. Flash was worth the wait. I'm really enjoying this series and surprised at how much. It's sharp, fun, lighthearted and emotionally engaging. It has a comic book spark of joy and fun that mainly shows up in the JL animated series stuff. That really surprised me. Almost my opposite reaction to Gotham. Anyway, commercial free & uninterrupted Flash flows nicely and the season-arc expands quickly. Love all the cross-overs, team ups and guest appearances. ★★★★★
  24. This is a cool interview about Costume Designs for BvS. (for 1st 3 minutes, then it switches to Frank Miller DKIII)
