  1. Probably with Thanksgiving hot on the heels of this holiday and kids still in school,it doesn't seem like the timing would be as good as the Christmas and summer vacation Giants. I don't recall the Disney gang doing Halloween specials although Huey Dewey and Louie did Back to School Giants (small consolation when that when came out!) it seems like the Western gang had a pretty consistent strategy in the fifties. I wonder why Bugs got Halloween? Maybe because the Looney Tunes were more 'wascally' than the Disney gang Dell thought Halloween was a better fit? Or maybe Disney opposed? Yes. I think opposition on the part of Disney may indeed have been the actual reason.
  2. Oh! you could be right. I never knew about Ferdy. I just knew about Morty from the Saturday/Sunday newspaper funny pages.
  3. Wow! I wasn't even aware of that title. It's certainly preferable to any old Captain America.
  4. You don't see these around these parts the way you see the Duck books. That's because Donald & friends comics fetch much higher prices which brings out the supply. Just the one - Morty Mouse.
  5. I agree! And the title has a thread of its own: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2431365&fpart=44 And here's the Mystery in Space thread: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7552814&fpart=1
  6. Cheat! Strange Adventures and Mystery in Space aren't second string. They both have threads of their own! This thread is for: Tales of the Unexpected My Greatest Adventure House of Mystery House of Secrets And maybe titles such as: Sea Devils Rip Hunter
  7. Didn't Dell usually just reproduce the front cover on the back of the ten cent issues? Was it not only for the Giants that there were unique back covers?
  8. Oh man! I just love Halloween covers, and Dell did them particularly well.
  9. Yay! A day celebrating my own kind: National Black Cat Day 2016
  10. Well she was trying to clean dust off the model kits so I'm willing to give her a pass in that regard. With respect to throwing my comics away, she just sighs and puts it down to sibling rivalry. She's still bewildered by my love of comics and other kids' stuff though and has stated in years past that I should "get rid of them". I've given her very angry snarls in response of course and she's refrained from saying anything to me about my collectibles for years now. The WOMAN however is supportive of all my interests and often helps out in some ways.
  11. It's a real challenge, particularly since I like having my model kits, board games, lunch boxes and other toy items nicely displayed. I'm at the point where I'm running out of display space which may put a damper on future acquisitions on my part.
  12. Here are some photos of the lunch box that heralded the start of my lunch box collecting about eight years ago:
  13. Those are wild! I wonder when noisemakers such as these stopped being sold? Were they not still available into the 1960's?
  14. Oh I love the way Andy Panda was drawn with the hair tufts in the early years! I just wish I had another 1500+ Dell funny animal comics overall.
  15. Cool indeed Hep! Thanks for posting (and festive too). Were you ever into Shari Lewis? Here are some shots of my Shari Lewis and Friends thermos:
  16. Here's a much beloved and all too little seen character: 52
  17. My approach toward toys and other ephemera has always been a rifle shot one. Display space would otherwise have become a really serious problem years ago, and I like to bask in the vintage goodness with which I've surrounded myself. Otherwise much of the point would be lost.
  18. Ask and you shall receive. Here are some pics I took a few years ago of my monster and sci-fi themed board games:
  19. Arrrrgggghhhh!!! It's very sad but I don't have that one yet. But maybe some day! After all, I have the rest of my life to peck away and add to my junk collections.
