I just have one word to share here.

    Accountability.

If a process or SOP was put in place where CGC could track who Che Jed it in, graded and encapsulated the book, they could determine where in the chain of custody the damage most likely happened. Once you witness someone get canned for damaging a book/books it emphasizes the need to be careful. Damaged to books won’t happen as often as it does. Heck, even dope dealers have someone who walks the processing floor to make sure no shenanigans are happening.

In the case of Thomas’s copy of Captain Marvel 28 you are looking at a difference of $20,000.00 based on the last auction result. It’s no minor matter.

I agree, if there is no accountability then it's basically a free for all mentality.  This is a top down problem because ultimately if the people in charge don't care and are apathetic then that set's the tone.  It's a case of bad management and it should be corrected, and actual quality control set in place.  Pathetic way to run a company in this day and age.

See, I look at this, and the fact that they are grading "invisible comics", and that people are buying this stuff and I just have to think that a crash is coming.  I mean this makes no sense to me at all.  Yes I have to ask why would CGC cert that, but more importantly who in their right mind would pay $7100 for it?

This might be a "heritage" type sale where "if" it was a actual bonafide sale.  It might be that they are setting the bar for other future sales of pieces of books to "normalize" the cannibalization of future key's.  CGC has lost there way and basically is now McDonalds with out the service and efficiency.

"Happily pay" was not my experience with a lot of non-US transactions..

I frequently got asked to ship without tracking, ship first class instead of Priority, use an envelope instead of a box, put a super low value on customs forms and put something other than "comics" on the form....all because of the added costs. I wasn't a fan of any of the above work arounds, though I understood it.

I've asked U.S. sellers to put a low amount on the customs form so I don't get hammered from Customs, but I also stated that I accept all responsibility if something should happen.

and while I am venting, here is my very difficult to find Canadian edition of Planet Comics #4, damaged during inner well encapsulation. I agree with the 5.0 grade before the damage. It had a small tear at top left which is now torn off, and the bottom right corner was attached.

That is freaking horrible.  I will not send any of my Golden age or high grade silver etc to CGC.  I think the only thing they should stick to is wrecking peoples moderns.

  5. CGC does have a "Golden Goose" they basically have a huge percentage, share of all the comics in the marketplace.  They are the defacto leader in the industry.  This may be a good lesson on how to lose market confidence by pure greed and apathy. If they are the "experts" then how do you explain the "Promise" collection with a large percentage of fiasco grading standards as well as so many of the previous comments in this thread.

How do two major key comics with false back covers end up in a Pedigree collection?

From not caring about anything except about profit and just plain apathy.  The hobby that they are a "saviour" is now going to be squeezed for every red cent and grades, quality control, and respect for the hobby are ??? .  Watch it happen in real time.

so would the hypothesis be that both players were Halperin? because if I was shilling my piece up there is no reason to go 10x estimates, step away and let the other have it at 1.8 or whatever and still make a huge splash. if it is market manipulation, again I concede I may not think large enough for these things, but it seems so heavy handed to go all that way to 3.3

either is equally plausible to me...chandelier bids and the piece was sold to the house OR two young rich men duking it out

Maybe it's "blanket" market manipulation.  Lots of OA may be coming out of the woodwork now to get sent to Heritage.  "Everything" is super valuable now.   2 cents. I think there is a lot of back deal collusion going on the BSD's are manipulating a red hot "perceived" market.
