  1. I agree. I look at past glorious threads and postings and I wonder where they are now. I know I’m straying from the thread topic, but does anyone have a decent estimate of what percentage of collectors are active here on the boards? In other words, do we merry few represent 5% of all the comic collectors? Or 50%?
  2. I’m sorry, I just ran to my copy and checked, but can’t find the ad . . . Must be in one of the others
  3. I appreciate the replies. The prevailing wisdom seems to point toward getting it reholdered. Mystafo's response seems logical, but I'm going to give reholdering a shot. I've never pressed a book before, and don't know if the simple act of reholdering might serve to straighten out the bends. No, I haven't been smoking too much dope; I honestly don't know. Should I press out the waviness? I surely do not want to pop a staple or detach a centerfold, so it wouldn't be my first choice. I'm happy to keep this at a 9.0 and am not trying to get a better grade. Just trying to get the best look I can get, without taking undue risks If there's another forum to ask about pressing, please forgive me in advance
  4. My book was graded 11/04, so I’ll bet I’ve got the magic creep engine case. Thank you very much for taking the time to help me
  5. This book has waviness at the top of the covers. I don’t know if it’s the holder causing it, or if it started out that way. I suspect the former, since I think otherwise it would have appeared in the grader notes. Besides, I remember seeing some posts here somewhere on the boards that certain older generation holders created what was termed, if memory serves correctly, “creep factor”. Of course I can’t find the string now. This book was graded in 2004. I have no way of knowing if it’s ever been reholdered, so I’m just assuming it’s a 2004 case. Can anyone shed any light on my conundrum? I will reholder if it’s the old holder causing the waviness. And at this point, I’m not sure a simple reholder will magically solve the problem. I don’t believe in pressing, but that might be the only solution Help!!
  6. Yes they were. I guess we had Chris Pedrin’s “Fortress”, but still , , ,
  7. That's the guy!!!! I just rewatched this scene. I'm one of the few who liked Ninth Gate
  8. I remember in the 90s watching a dealer leaf thru unslabbed books with a cigarette dangling out of his mouth, dropping ashes. He would casually brush them off the comic page. Also true story
  9. You had me at "Madoff's returns had T-bill like volatility"
  10. Looks like more evidence of Bat 1 being a legit $50k per point book. And since its still got extended bidding, I’m gonna estimate it’ll be north of $450k before its all said and done. Could be the new Joker movie that’s coming out . . .
  11. It’s so interesting to see Ditko before Spider-Man. All the elements are here
  12. Wow. That’s like something chasing you in a nightmare and you discover you can’t move
  13. If this did in fact go for $36k, I think that’s a bargain. It’s an all original Bat 1 with no restoration. Even though the centerfold is married, it’s STILL AN ORIGINAL WITH NO RESTO! A blue label 1.5 would have gotten $75-$80k, I think. This sold for a PLOD price, and so my congratulations to the buyer
  14. Maybe CGC looks at the age of the staples then? That’s a slippery slope, but you must be right. It’s the only possible explanation
  15. Wow. I’m shocked. It just may be the lack of a current media incarnation. Plus I’ve never thought of GL as a top tier character. And of course I think Lou_fine has it right, too
  16. Totally. It was at $12,750 with 20 minutes to go. I threw down a $14k bid near the end, and thought I’d get it. The only thing I got was a big smack down. Someone else commented earlier how the Clink auctions sometimes sputter at the end. Well NOT UP IN HERE!
  17. Was this yours? Or were you trying to make it yours?
  18. How do people feel about the extra 3 staples? And how is this blue label?
  19. I just gave the Bat 1 a decent bump, but somebody else has got the book staked out pretty good and is still on top. They, too, must find the QES certification irresistible Ok, I just bumped it again. Someone seriously want this book
  20. And proud of it. We fly the nerd flag with panache
  21. Wow. What a lineup. Is that current, or historical? Because that’s either my Cap 3, or there’s another 6.5 out there in the world(if I weren’t so lazy, I’d check the registry)
