  1. Cat_man, I think we need to rename you Wild Man
  2. Respectfully, that has not been my experience. I still enjoy being a collector despite now having a clear floor. I enjoy these a lot more than I would a full run of Metal Men or Spawn. They may be few, but they hold my interest
  3. That’s exactly what I did. Went from many books to only 8. I worried would it still feel like I’m a collector. Fortunately, at least for me, the answer was “yes”. It helps to follow the boards and the auctions, because it gives me a balcony seat to the action. The trick is to let go of that voice telling me “ more, More, MORE”.
  4. Did he? I wonder what went wrong. Did he choose poorly, or spend recklessly? Or flip too fast? ive made my choices, and my life is enriched. When I go to sell in 5 or 10 years, if I don’t make great money off them, it’s ok
  5. I really don’t like it when - Surprise! - a comic shows up in a larger slab. When this came in the mail is the first time I had any inkling of such a thing. I showed it to CGC when they set up at a local con and they said sorry, nothing to be done here. It’s maybe 1/8th of an inch wider than golden age, but I have no idea why. Anyway, due to the larger holder, I have this book stuck off in some weird storage spot because it won’t fit with the others. In looking back, I don’t even know why I picked this up other than the fact that the enthusiasm for GGA from many of my favorite boardies here is contagious! Well, that, plus it still cracks me up that Matt Baker got away with such a bawdy cover.
  6. Lou just means that a few pages back was an extensive discussion about how the 9.6 became a 9.8. He’s a good guy and means you no harm. The timing is just sort of comical, is all
  7. I’m not an OA collector per se, but have gone quite heavily into Golden Age books. I hear the wisdom in your words, and they echo thoughts in the back of my own mind about all golden age comic related collectibles People previously believed the golden ages of other hobbies would never end, but the landscape is now littered with their carcasses: stamps, books, train sets, pez dispensers, beanie babies, etc.
  8. Thanks, Lou. Your observation about the Cap 3 plays right into a nagging voice in the back of my head. As fun as these books are to own, there’s always a pervasive question mark in my head about what kind of bidders will happen to be in the market when it comes time to sell. Like everyone else, I want the bestest and the perfectest, but those wishes are tempered by the realities of the collectibles hobby. Truly, I can’t afford the bestest and the perfectest, so maybe its just rationalization, but its my hope that when the day comes for the auction block, there will be more competitive bidding at the lower end of the pool. What good is a 9.4 if there aren’t 2 guys both of whom want the book and both of whom have the means to buy the book? What if there’s only one of these unicorns out on the playing field at the time of auction? The potential for loss is the 900 pound gorilla always in the room. We all know it and choose to live with it. Anyway, I’ve made peace with the fact that if it strictly were a money making deal, I’d have left my money in the stock market rather than the riskier comic collectibles market. But where would be the fun in that !!??
  9. I think there’s discussion on this earlier in the thread about how the late great John Verzyl twisted some CGC arms for it . . .
  10. Oh I see. I guess we should be thankful Simon & Kirby neglected to add to the shadow the gun smoke coming out of the barrel.
  11. I rounded up a few strays and made em stand still long enough for a group photo
  12. This is a league with which I am unfamiliar. I know there are some Action 1s that have broken that barrier, and I imagine some Tec 27s as well. Has any other book, ever?
  13. The devil won. The angel never even had a chance. I went big on another book. So big, it made all my previous books jealous and now they won’t talk to me
