  1. I never viewed Mr Fantastic and his stretch abilities seriously. He’s smart and has a lame strength. In that team, it just works. Superman in any team doesn’t work for me because for me it’s like “he could just take on whatever threat himself and it would be done with….why is he with others?”
  2. If I had the time, I would be intrigued though to see if I had sold my top 100 comics (in terms of value) last year and then tried to get them back right now, how that would look....maybe I will start a journal exploring this
  3. Grades in! Yikes, some tough ones to start (at least so I found.....) a couple I feel good about but a couple I could be waaaay off on
  4. This...0.5 blue all day I sold a Hulk 181 last year to a guy who had it graded. It wasnt missing the MVS but rather a piece was torn out that affected part of a panel. It got hit with a 0.5 blue
  5. I have kind of done a similar thing and decided to stop at 400. I like that story.
  6. Grader's notes heavy staining on Page 69 multiple siamese pages (post production)
  7. The grader's notes do not tell the whole story. Would it be nice if CGC noted EVERY single detail on their notes? Yes. Would that take a VERY long time to do for EVERY comic, resulting in us probably waiting decades for our comics to return? Also yes Grading is more than what you posted, for those grades. And the notes are just the main things noted. I am sure that, had you taken pictures of these books BEFORE sending them in and posted them here on the forums in the "Hey Buddy Can You Spare A Grade?" section, you would find a lot of rather experienced community members giving you grade ranges that were close, if not exact, to what CGC gave you. Reason being, a large percentage of members on here can accurately match (or come within a half a grade) of what CGC will grade a book. It all comes with years of dealing with CGC, looking at graded books, exploring the nuances of certain grades...personally, I am 23 years or so into the hobby and I still am learning about grading (and I started back at 10, buying grading guides and such)
  8. I mean, CGC grades plenty of pretty naked covers, comics and the like. If they want to deny business for actual photos of naked people (or magazines with that inside), I suppose that is their business....sounds like the are excluding possible income though if they do allow Playboy
  9. Hi all, So growing up my dad had a handful of comics and being the youngest of six, when he got them they were always tattered and the covers ripped off. I helped him. Track down a Mighty Marvel Western he recalled and well today he remembered this….it might be more Bronze Age (as the last one I helped him track down was from the early 70s) but I figured I would start here. This was his synopsis of what he recalls About 1965 to 1975 Comic had about 3 stories in it. In one a robot was delivered down into a mine. The tough lead miner thought it was going to replace the men and ripped wires out of it and slammed it into a support causing a cave in. Trapped & using the emergency phone he learned it was a rescue robot and unless he could repair it he would run out of air before they could save him. At this point it was "to be continued ". Looking for what comic & possibly to find what happened. The robot was sort of humanoid with caterpillar tracks for feet with a big spike or chisel sticking straight out from the chest. I don't think it was on the cover. Im going to embark on a hunt in an hour or so but figured until then maybe some super sleuths out there could beat me to it
  10. What has said by all prior to me is the answer....sun fade, unless on the back you cannot make out reds and yellows. The bottom right with Colossus was likely covered up in some way while the rest was exposed to the sun. And it would not take long. I left a textbook in the back window of my car and within a couple months that thing was faded terribly (sat in a sunny parking lot for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week)
  11. To be honest, I prefer to see these things in my comics if tasteful (ie not like someone when manic with the stamp and covered an entire splash page).
  12. I'll go 7.0-7.5 mainly because of what I see along the spine (dings, crease, rub...whatever it is it keeps this book from outright VF or better in my eyes) Still a great copy!
  13. If the book was a 9.8, mayyyybbbeeeee this pencil marking drops to a 9.6 but in any other grade, that pencil will have no effect
  14. I will also say 5.5 range I am also curious as to why the OP was going to slab it. Childhood book? Trying to get the run graded in any grade? Just love it?
  15. Definitely a 1.0. All there, very worn and loved by Karen. Although don't tell her you have her book....she might get upset
  16. Some people are much too harsh with their grades lol…hope they sell some stuff soon This is a 3.0-3.5 copy and cleaning/pressing it could allow for a 4.0 tops
  17. Very good price and a 4.5 with some potential for 5.0 territory
  18. Hi and welcome! I would definitely press and clean and grade both, if preservation and maintaining value are concerns. Both are very desirable grades for those issues. Pictures and grader's notes on the graded book would really allow for people to comment on whether the press/clean portion is needed.
  19. To much wear everywhere for a 4.0 or better Not enough wear to be 2.0 So I fall firmly in the 3.0 range
  20. First console: NES Favourite game: Played a ton of Mario 3, Ice Hockey and Castlevania 2. That sucker was hard Favourite memory: I was 7 and we had to go to supper at East side Marios. I had made it so far in Mario and did not want to lose my progress, so I paused and turned the TV off. Well 3 hours later when we got him, all was well but that little NES was scorching hot...my dad made me turn it off so it would not die on me.
  21. In 2020 and 2021, everyone started to send in comics because comics experienced a boom. People who never sent in started to, as did new collectors. At the time, CGC has 20? graders. Maybe? Well when their workload got upped 20x or more, they fell behind. And rather than pause submissions, they just took and took and made people wait. In the time that went by, they hired a few more graders but not enough. And anything that was part of their special events like CGC signing events took priority, as did people who paid for fast track. So here we are, myself included, waiting still. Seems par for the course with other grading companies, which is no excuse...I think focusing on getting these submissions to a 6 month or less turn around should be priority number one for the company but at the same time, I don't want them to hire 30 new people who don't grade well....which seems to have happened with modern books (although they seem to be getting a bit better.....maybe....)
