  1. It's the 9.8 factor. Seems like there some die hard 9.8 guys out there and, this series with great Ploog artwork, is enjoyed by many.
  2. I have a silver age marvel book slabbed with some light tanning to edges and it scored a 7.0 This copy has more edge wear and other minor flaws than the book I have, so I will put it around 5.5-6.0
  3. Yeah perhaps. I have found that CGC is getting lighter on silver age stuff in particular. If spine isnt brutal and presents well, they seem more likely to give past VG range books fine grades. Or if the front cover is sharp and back is not so much, they seem to give that more of a pass.
  4. I generally also hate scribbling on books. The "K" I love and even the back, neatly filled in, is awesome history. Where is Chuck today? Alive? Passed? Why did he not send in the coupon? So many neat questions
  5. I will also agree that neither is in the 9.2-9.4 range and are likely 8.0-9.0 at best
  6. There is a company (not CGC) that will authenticate autographs and grade and encapsulate books... ...where are these autographs? I assume on the interior? If you can show a photo, I am sure a number of people here who have seen his signature, cam verify. Chances are, it is real as it is not something one would fake, especially on these books. But I guess stranger things have happened
  7. Don't care, not a flaw that bothers me either way, as long as rest of the book is structurally sound.
  8. Is it a book I would like someday? Sure. Am I willing to spend hundreds on it because of the Beatles? Nope 227 for me wins out every time.
  9. Touch one. Could be deemed incomplete with that much of a piece missing. So a 0.5 would not surprise me. Now since it is the back, I think you could get away with a 1.8 here and it would be one of the nicest presenting 1.8's around.
  10. Yeah I am also in the 6.5-7.0 range. Corner creases kill and the weird stain, although one I could live with because its blue and not brown, will knock it down.
  11. I have learned that CGC really likes a nice cover and spine. This spine has a tick or two, so that puts in 9.4. I agree though that the edge wear and corners should bring it down further. Not to 8.0, as CGC seems to have lightened stance on this unless pretty severe, but I would think 9.0 makes a lot more sense here.
  12. I'll venture 9.0. A press could minimize some of the spine issues. Nice copy.
  13. 9.0 range. Newsstands from this era are always advertised as rarer (and are) but when you consider prints runs where they were, even at 10% of copies being newsstands, that's still a very large number. Generally people only go ga ga over the big key books in newsstand versions (even when these are not rare at all it seems). You may find someone who is trying to put together a newsstand run who might pay a slight premium to have but generally for a book like this one, price will be around the same as direct edition.
  14. With all due respect to the person who said 3.0, I strongly disagree That amount of rust, water damage and those pieces missing along the spine boil this down to a 1.5-1.8. And no I would not spend money on someone who thinks they can fix water damage to that extent. Oh sure, you can smooth it out nice nice, but If this book got a 2.0 or better from CGC I would question their practices greatly. Unfortunate but hey, you have a copy of a desired book which is still a win!
  15. If Sony is smart, they will recognize that the MCU seems to have a handle on things and continue to work with them while maintaining their rights to the character. The moment the MCU starts to falter (which could happen if "oh yeah umm the multiverse caused it" becomes the catch all for things that crop up in future flicks), then SONY can sell or pull out and do their own Spidey stuff again.
  16. Right? I love collecting comics. I also love that I can spend $4-5 grand each year and with a little work, turn it into $8-10k and use that money to help with life or to even fund other books. It's possible to be a investillector! Maybe not to the scale that true investors are but I still have a dozen books at CGC that I am happier to sell for profit than to own when they return.
  17. I’ll be smack dab honest my mystery box won’t compete with the likes of @greggyor @sckaobut I’ll be damned if my recipient doesn’t get something they like
  18. Could @The Sledderupdate my prize to also include a comic from the 2000s and 2010s? Because I feel more is needed to be given!
  19. A hard working wonderful postal worker dropped off a box on a Sunday of all days. I had my wife open it as I didn’t want to see what was on the customs label. Now I have to wait according to some rules or something. Who designed this madness?!?! Oh and those tiny fingers are my daughter…she’s ready for her first Christmas and clearly knows this box needs opening
  20. As another Canadian fella, I am slightly saddened by the number of US only prizes but I understand...I would also be willing to help pay 50-75% of shipping if that is something that could sway some of ye "US only" prizes
  21. Someone will buy this? I had a stack full a couple years back I had to give away. Has Human Fly even seen use in the past two decades?
  22. I see 6.0-6.5 range unless that is a rip under the bottom staple. If it is, might bump down around 5.5
