honestly, this whole situation seems like it deserves a personal phone call and apology from one of the big bosses at CGC with a full explanation of what happened and how processes will be improved, with a full refund, free press and grading of this book, and at least one full free CGC SS submission (max value of $xxx) for a CGC SS private event in the future.  And literally every single employee who was contacted should have to call and apologize and say what they could have done better.

Reminds me of an episode decades ago when I had a Gateway 486PC that I bought my, then toddler, son PC games for (shout out to anyone who ever played Putt Putt Saves the Zoo with their kid).      The game came with a rebate where you had to register it & clip out the bar code and send it in with the receipt. I ended up going thru a long series of emails and excuses why I wasn't eligible for it.   I got so fed up with the run around that I researched the executives of the company , printed out the email chain and included it when writing a marketing executive a letter. I told them I wasn't writing about the lack of the rebate but more about the infuriation from how their reps handled the situation, especially for a long time customer who bought & registered all of their games.

A month or so later I got a hand written response from that executive apologizing for the experience and that they wanted me to know they hand walked the letter to that department to show them.  I imagine they must have given me the rebate but all I remember is the apology letter.

It's kind of criminal for them to charge such huge fees based on what they think the books are worth.  I mean, you really ought to be able to submit a book and just say, please grade this, and get it done for a flat fee. Not like the service changes.  They are not an auction house to be demanding a cut of the total value like this.

Now, if you want insurance, that's a whole different ball game.  I understand declaring a value, and then they might have to charge more to cover the insurance.  But if you want to set your own "risk" level as far as that goes, they shouldn't be bumping you up because they decide the books are more valuable than what you decided.

Meh.  What do I know.  I guess this happens everywhere, but still annoys me.

Would CGC settle a claim for what he put as FMV or FMV based on what they ultimately charged him?   Is that specified anywhere how this type of case would be handled?

  3. Had a looong day in work yesterday so I took a break in the afternoon and caught a showing.  A shame only a dozen people were in the theater cause the rest  missed a *superb* movie.  I texted my wife  afterwards that I should've waited and seen it with her as I think we would've actuallly liked it even without the Big G being her type of movie.

The best Godzilla movie I have ever seen.  By far. Seemed like a reimagining of the original movie.  It was refreshing to see G take a heel turn for a change.  This was the best portraying of Godzilla as a real force of nature.  The human side of the movie was also excellent.  It certainly deserves awards.

So I can select the lowest tier regardless of the expected value is?

Maybe I should get strait to the point. I have a magazine Michel Jordon that has nothing wrong with it the are no marks of any sort. A 9.6 sold for $122,000.. If I submit mine there is no way I can presently afford the unlimited tier either now or the foreseeable future. A 122,000 to me is like millions to the average person. So I have a lot of anxiety about this. If I cannot get it graded....you ever have one of those dreams when you find a pile of money and grabe a bunch of it only to wake up squeezing your pillow?

Whenever you're interested in selling it, an auction house can prob submit it for you and any fees would be settled when it sells.  Obviously you'd need to contact them to get all the details

  5. Pressing for what purpose? They're obviously not going to be any better to read if they get pressed.

If you're interested selling it at some future date after you're done with them you can always get it pressed then.   I'd recommend getting opinions of known quality  pressers rather than someone of whom you have no idea how good they are. I wouldn't worry about a pro doing it; of course you'd have to pay,    is the seller offering to do it for free?

Congrats on the purchase.  I loved Perezs work on WW

  6. Never heard of the various manga and anime shows.   Happened to see the previews for the live action show on Netflix one day.

Absolutely love the show.  Highly entertaining. Have 1 show left to go and not looking forward to having to wait 1- whatever years for the next season.

    Hi,

I am going through roughly 2k comics I have in Original shipping bags and Comic Boxes. There are some showing a fairly sizable value, however they need to be graded. I checked the boxes availability and I could not see any available to purchase.

Is there a process to notify ahead that I am sending comics? I looked at the newbie area and really didnt find anything outside how to ship comics for grading.

I would really like to get specific comics graded and in a better protective covering. Many of my comics are from DC, Marvel, and other brands from the 60's through the late 90's.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

You're asking how to submit comics to CGC?

Where can I see up to date value on all the early X-Men #'s 2-67?

you'd need a paid subscription to GPA Analysis  for last sale numbers,  or goCollect gives some grades for free using  their own FMV algorithm (all grades & recent sales require paid subscription)

There's another site called Covrprice.com which gives FMV & recent sales (again you get some for free but need paid subscription for unlimited access)

There's always Ebay which gives 30 day history , thought you can get a year history if you have done enough transactions with them

I get it man.  The way you feel about this is how I feel about sports! lol

I have always believed 2nd place is the first loser.

When my Eagles lost the SB to the Chiefs.  I said Eagles failed and accomplished nothing.

0-16 is the same to me as losing the SB!

You need to pray more before each game -

    Our Eagles,
    who art in Philly,
    hallowed be thy game;
    when kickoff comes,
    thy game is won
at the Linc or the other team’s stadium.
Give us this Sunday our weekly win
    and forgive us our turnovers,
    as we forgive those who trespass against the line of scrimmage;
and lead us into the end zone,
    but deliver us from interceptions.

(maybe it could use a little work....)

    Go Birds!

    victim blaming bandwagon

What if in a scenario, the purchaser was someone that does not know anything about comic books and counting pages or detecting restoration? Making a purchase based on a description from what seemed like a reputable dealer/seller only to find out via third party grading weeks or months later that the item was sold was incomplete or restored. The buyer still to blame?

wouldn't that kinda fall under 'ignorance of the law is no excuse'?

The buyer did have options & protections available but chose to forgo them by submitting the book w/o inspection. It's not really a question of what % he or she is at fault.  It's what choices are available and what choices are made.

The buyer may still have options depending on what Ebay comes back and says and what they may do to the seller's account.

Other than that, you are at the mercy of a seller who you would hope would do the 'right' thing but isn't required to.

It's been a lot of years since I collected comics. I was thinking about jumping back in, but the prices I'm seeing online are INSANE.

2 questions, what's the current standard of online price guide websites? And other than eBay and these forums, what's some great places to shop for back issues online these days?

    Thanks

I don't actively collect anymore, but have you considered Trade Paperbacks/Omnibuses/even CD or DVD's to read electronically

That may be an alternative to buying individual issues
