Why don't you invest in stocks rather than comic books..?

You have no idea what you're doing. Go read Gabe's journal before you have your own epiphany. There's history to learn from.

Swami and Hollywood are in for a rude awakening when they can't resell their books and don't care to keep them. That's why you buy the book and not the label (or the hype). If I can't resell my books, then I'll be perfectly happy keeping them.

I buy books I'm prepared to keep as well, for example asm 361 carnage favourite supervillain, xforce 11 domino favourite female superhero, vengeance of bane love bane, thanos 13 like thanos and punisher, also ghostrider, spawn liked it as a kid growing up. Movies only increase the interest, sure there is specs eternals nova, but those arent the comics you invest most of your was in, the ones you love are! Love deadpool, new mutants 98 is decreasing in value, you are only partially correct, but fully ignorant in what I desire.

call me a cynic or whatever-- but when I see people ONLY seem to talk about buying speculation/movie hype books -- obsessed with condition and valuation -- that does not make me think "oh hey, this person is really into comics". It makes me think this person thinks they can work the collecting system. I am by no means some big time collector but I appreciate the books for what they are. I do not hunt or even buy keys very often-- I prefer to collect runs and buy SA and BA books that are reasonably priced (mid grade) not in hopes of flipping them but just to own them and read them. I realize people collect in a lot of different ways and no one way is the right way. I just find some of the newer people who come along to our boards and instantly start in with the value/condition/"key" worthiness/Hot book etc are little too disingenuous. While people collect different things-- the one thing most of us have in common is a passion for the hobby. Maybe I am just having trouble appreciating this collecting tactic or cannot see their degree of passion beyond the money aspect.

Add to that the numerous new posters who have been creating "Friday threads" the last few months(perhaps years?)  - bitcoinswami in particular--  and it is not hard to see why I am initially skeptical of splashy new posters like the OP. It is also why I try to advise them to check out the newbie forum - as I would rather they get up to speed  with how to best use the forum than make a ton of newbie mistakes and end up leaving/annoying people until they do get it. I got the impression they missed my intention and took what I said as a threat. To be fair - the prison comments were a little strange to me-- and only through context of later posts did I figure out they were in prison not in the USA (Canada perhaps? best guess). Regardless-- that type of information seems a little over the top sharing wise imo - and might be best kept on the down low - though I get the impression they are apparently proud of those 20 years of incarceration. Most Americans would find that counter-intuitive because our prison system is an overpopulated, mostly privatized, corporate disaster.

Anyway -- good luck with your collecting and time on this board. Sorry if I misread the situation.

I'm doing the knightsquest! Also might look into maximum carnage, but I like speculating too.

For any halfway desirable comic I’ve ever seen in a comic shop they’ve always been priced at least double fmv. Not surprised CGC nm is their new guide over Overstreet nm

It's frustrating to say the least, some of these dealers probably go on Ebay and see what other dealers are selling it and push the value a few bucks.

x-force 11 in 9.8 routinely sells for $75 to $100 on ebay so it's more the local dealer was out to lunch than you sniffed out a deal.

I didnt sniff out the deal on the xforce I thought I got a really crisp new mutants 98, worried a little about the price drop in recent months  hopefully it comes back 9.8. I got thanos 13 9.8 mvs 36 storm for 375 canadian, I got xforce 11 9.8 90 canadian, eosv2 275 canadian, deadpool 1 70 Canadian circle chase complete set 70, killing joke 85 rai Jim shooter autograph 95 canadian. I thought I did well

Sorry to hear you had very hard times, but good to hear you're pulling out of it hopefully now.

But geez, if you don't have lots of money, why are you buying nose-bleed graded books at high prices. That "haul" you showed is something that I wouldn't feel comfortable dropping that much money on myself (and I don't consider myself rich but I'm doing okay).

HG books are not childhood-memories, they're speculating and ultra-HG collecting & bragging. Is that EOSV2 a childhood memory? You know how many awesome childhood-era books in pretty nice shape (keys included) you can get for that modern EOSV?

I get the idea of reinventing a childhood lost, I kinda do the same, but there are a TON of copies of GREAT childhood-era books that are in still pretty decent shape in the $2-$10 boxes at all theses shows if you want to rebuild a childhood lost.

    Well

The Thanos the edge if spiderverse, those are pure spec. It started with ASM 361 and has turned into speculating the market based on upcoming movies

probably not the best type of information to share on these boards

I suggest you hang around the newb forum for a while and get acclimated to how this place operates. Coming in here and boasting that you made some dealer look like a jerk because you paid less for an item they were selling-- that is not going to go over like you think it would. Or bow up and act all tough about it and ignore any decent advise-- that seems to be what many people who don't last very long here so often do.

That's funny, because I want action g tough and I was pointing out that his book was greatly inflated far past value. And if you want to talk about lasting in places or surviving, I imagine I have survived in some pretty harsh environments, and I have yet to concede my identity to anyone.

Yawn... sounds like just another kid asking for big discounts on keys.  Can you even name 3 Eternals without looking?

Actually I'm 40  just got out of prison after serving 20 years and I'm trying to reinvent a childhood filled with trauma neglect and abuse. I'm trying to find a comfort zone and fit in with a society that I have felt neglected by for a majority of my life. I dont have a lot of money  I work a dead end job and I have to report to a parole officer on a weekly basis, I have to submit randomly to urinalysis and take extensive programming to deal with substance and violent issues, but if you feel comfortable coming at me for trying to belong while you have guilt your collection in the relative comfort of safety and security then feed your manhood soldier 😡

You can also ask the people sellin em for $100 "tell me why I should pay $100 here when I can get one on ebay for $100?  Go."

    Whhhyyyyy😂🤣

Do I have to wear a diaper when I read your posts?

There was none selling them for 100 dollars at that ripoff show, I have a nose for deals and I sniffed out all of them. The only deal I passed on was asm 361 9.8 which was about 20 less than what I paid for it but buddy threw in a comic I wanted.

So I noticed xforce 11 cgc 9.8 and I'm thinking to myself how much?

So I say " how much for that xforce 11" he turns to me and says "250.00,serious inquiries only though man!" This is right after I put 4 beans on new mutants 98. So I pull out my phone open my ebay app scroll to my purchases and find xforce 11 that I won on auction, I smile and point to it

"So did I get a good deal than"

He responds "you paid 100 for that?"

    I said "yeah"

    "You got a good deal"

    "You think so" I smile.

"Yeah and people always making me look like an a..h..."

    I smiled and waved
