I use a padded laptop case.  It has a strap to hold the laptop securely that fits comics perfectly.

Depends on what I bought! Like right now I’m anxiously awaiting to be notified that a particular lot I bought has been marked as shipped. Mostly I don’t pay too much attention until around the time I know something should be delivered as we don’t have a doorman and the mailman has a tendency to put my packages on a little railing above the mailboxes and I’m always afraid someone will knock them off ..

ok FINE I track my purchases way too closely

I generally investigate the feedback on the seller first. If it's good than I would trust it getting to me.

I use my grandpa’s 1940’s leather briefcase. Perfect for two large piles of GA standing upright next to each other.
I often get snarky comments, but my expensive books stay safe and it is sentinmental to me.
Besides, if this briefcase could only talk. It has been to shows all over the country for 40 years!

This is what I use, with cardboard on either side of the inside, surrounding my comics.

See that open black box on the table beside me?
At a show in February a guy was selling them for ten bucks a piece. They are perfect for storing and carrying your comics.

I monitor incoming packages to make sure nothing is stolen off my doorstep.  (Ring Doorbell is an eye opener as the community reports what Nassau County PD try not to admit to.)
I also monitor outgoing packages to make sure nothing is stuck in transit after a week that they have been sent out.

Shoot, when I was 14 there was no such thing as a tracking number.  You mailed in a form and waited patiently 6-8 weeks for your package to be delivered.

    That's not true, man.
I would suggest reading up on comics stored in safes, as an example of how a plastic case does nothing to prevent comics from aging and/or chemical reactions.
Comics in encapsulation are no more safe than properly bagged-and-boarded.

Glad to see some Valiant love here. With Shadowman #13 blowing up the last few days, apparently over nothing more than a Punk Mambo mini being published (SM #13 is her first appearance), that book, and some other VEI first appearances (Shadowman 5, Harbinger 3, etc.), could explode if the Bloodshot movie does well and brings in new readers, and leads to talk of more movies.

Kept it simple. Like they did with the cover. Valiant fans have the most voracious appetite and loyalty to and for their characters and books.
Between the picture on the cover, Valiant movie news, and Bloodshot being involved, this book has it all. Oh, did I mention that there are both matte and glossy versions of this book ? No ? Well there are. 😝
While this is far from the most expensive book in the Valiant U, it is potentially the most recognized and bankable book of the bunch. We all want to own it and if your old enough, you’ll remember it being a wall book in the 90s.
    I own
2 raw NM, NM- glossy and matte
    1 matte CGC 9.8

    rating
raw NM 8 out of 10
    CGC 9.8 = 8 out of 10 though I’d give a glossy a bump to 9 out of 10

Another blue chip book. Edge of Spider-verse #2. This one is special. There was Both a lot of angst and a lot of excitement when this book arrived. Excitement won out and the book is a juggernaut. This one is rated just slightly below UF #4 because of the lack of original character. They did make the most of her return to action. This book in spite of being expensive for its age has plenty of growth potential.

My stash = 0 I know, I’m a big dummy and sold them all. Keep waiting for them to drop in price. If it doesn’t happen in the winter, I’m buying anyway.

    ratings
    raw NM = 9 out of 10
    CGC 9.8 = 9.5 out of 10

Hollywood1892 reacted to Crops068 in Con Signature Series Newbie Question
I do not believe you can hold it for a different convention but the process has changed on the overall hand off.  Let me start off by saying that I have never done it the previous way, so I do not know the specific there, only my current experience from Fan Expo Dallas yesterday.
Currently the CGC process is check in at the booth, get a witness, go to artist with the witness and get the signature (if the artist is unavailable or has a long line then the witness will give you an alternate form of contact to get him to return when ready), witness puts the comic or comics in a tamper-proof evidence bag and notates a circular signature sheet.  Once finished the witness will seal the bag and hand it back to you with the circular sheet included in the bag, this documents who was visited and how many signatures that person provided.  Then when you are ready to finalize your paperwork and hand everything over to CGC head back to the booth and they will get you squared away.
This takes ownership of them keeping your books, overnight for instance, in the event that you are getting something signed by multiple people and not all are available on the same day.
I did this yesterday, I had Scott Williams sign something, had the witness seal the bag, then when it was time for Jim Lee's private signing at the same con I took the sealed bag to the facilitator for the signing and they cracked it open, went through the witnessed line and had the stuff signed, then back to the facilitator and they finalized the paperwork and will submit it to the CGC booth.

Hollywood1892 reacted to RockMyAmadeus in First appearance of Spider-Man black costume
As was explained in lengthy detail in that other thread, comic books are a storytelling artform. Since the beginning of comics fandom, the accepted understanding of what constitutes an "appearance" has been within the context of a story. Otherwise, the first image of Batman to appear was in an ad in Action Comics #12, which came out prior to Detective #27. Action Comics #12 is not the first appearance of Batman.
Since the costume that appeared in previews for Spidey's new costume wasn't even the final version, the first time the actual black costume appeared was Amazing Spiderman #252. Many characters, especially in the 70's through now, appeared in preview prior to their actual appearances in stories. Those aren't their first appearances, either.
There's nothing wrong with collecting and enjoying these preview appearances...but they are not "first appearances."
