I don't know if it's been posted already, but check out this snippet of an interview with Matt Nelson (full interview apparently comes out tomorrow) :

I guess that explains this book I have had returned twice now and had to make a clarification(and discount) to my ad for the obvious spine tick:

As a test, I recently submitted seven books.  The GAs came back as expected, without seeing any real bump.  Granted, these books were in that 4.0-5.0 range but I would have been surprised if they graded higher.  The remainder of the books were mid grade and upper mid grade silver/bronze.  These graded 3, and in one case 4 grading points higher than expected.  The worst offender here was a bronze book with four 1/4 inch color breaking creases on the spine and some noticeable color lift/rub on the right center of the cover.  I had it at a 6.5/7 at best and that came back 8.5.  8.5?????  Considering CGC is the standard, I can't see anything good coming from changing standards.  They no longer even seem to be following the grading guide, and that was published not that long ago.

  3. I'm going to play devil's advocate for a moment, here. Is this a change in grading standards across the board? Or is it simply a change in grading standards for books of a certain age? We all know higher grade Silver Age books get a bump in grade simply for being older...could it be that bronze and copper age books are beginning to get a similar bump? I see 90's and even 2000's books browning on the edges in some collections. They are old. Could graders consciously(or sub-consciously) be giving books pre-1985 a "pass" for minor imperfections that would have been noticed before? And with the influx of so many books from this era, isn't it in CGC's best interest to give a slight bump to these books? I'm saying they may not even be aware they are giving the books a bump, but human beings often alter their beliefs if it's in their best interest to do so.

If older books are getting a bump, newer books are not. When you look at the original run of Incredible Hulk #181, there is one solitary 9.9. But while that seems realistic, considering the printing issues with that particular book, is it really realistic to say that of the 1100+ facsimile editions that were graded 9.8, not one was better than 9.8? I sure don't see much of anything wrong with the 9.8s I've seen of the facsimile. Obviously, they have been capped out at 9.8 since they are so new.

Marvel Fanfare #3, Secret Wars II #5,  Longshot #5, Fantastic Four #337, Spider-man #19.....books that might otherwise be found in the $1 bins.

Hmmph. I have a set of 1-6 all 9.8. No grades higher until this. I had to look that one up. Now you have me worried.

I hate to jump on the bandwagon here but...

It seems unfair to give a book a higher grade just because of a miswrap.

The white strip of the back cover showing on the front could be the reason you can't see any wear. Longshot 5 was also printed without the usual black border line.

For all we know if it had been printed with the border line and not miswrapped, this could have been a 9.2-9.4 copy...or less

^Note the black line showing on the edge of the back cover. Total miswrap...

Seeing everyones posts makes me realize I must have PO lady luck on my side. :fourleafclover:

Since 1999 when I started to sell items on eBay USPS has only lost 3 of my packages.

    25,000+ delivered items.

    1 Priority Mail

    1 Media Mail

    1 Registered mail

(To be fair it was CGC to me and the missing package case was USPS workers inside job stole a crate of registered mail as it never left the FL Hub.  So technically is was never lost.)

Since 1999, I've had ONE package "lost". And I put Dr. Evil quotations on that since it went to "Status not Updated" and the buyer said they never received it. It's still possible it got there and the buyer took advantage of a tracking error(book for free---BONUS!). Every other time a package was not delivered for some reason it came back to me.

Here is one of my trouble children who just popped up again today.

The thing is, he makes reasonable offers. But, I have had so many issues with him returning, canceling, backcharging cards(after shipment!!!), eBay deregistering him and canceling the sale(after shipment!!!). He lives in the Phillipines and uses a reshipper out of Illinois(This is how I spot him when he starts up a new ID). I've talked to him a bunch of times. He's the nicest guy in his messages and some of the sales have actually stuck, he's just trouble. I ban anyone with 0 feedback from either Des Plaines or Arlington Heights Illinois.

    Aliases:

    Mike Mandas, Mixali Mantis

    The IDs he's used so far:  jitsrun56mixmav0, mjerro_30, mjinsert_6rarepric49revelatio-18

New ID for this guy: jitsrl-06. New alias for this ID: "EMMANUELS ANGELS"

A couple of days ago this seller put up an ASM 300 9.8 for sale. I looked up the certification number and the book he was selling was not the book pictured on CGC.  I believe he removed the auction, someone probably called him on it.

All of their ads disappeared, not just ended early. Like gone from existence. eBay got involved.

That's the same seller listing an ASM Mark Jewelers 9.8 that is on the fraud list...see the scam thread for info

Both the 252 and 301 9.8s look suspect to me. Not 9.8s...

  11. I've been accused of having my prices too high. But, a book is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. GPA is not the "bible" on how much something will sell for, it only tells you what it has sold for. And does not take into account mitigating factors like sold at auction, or "given away" at fixed price. That's why GPA is really only useful for popular books like ASM 300 or Hulk 181. Most of my items are rare error, insert or signed books so I do ask a premium for these and am(usually) patient to wait for the right buyer(not a "sucker"). Users have quoted GPA on some of my rare items, which I find pretty amusing. I just had someone tell me a page out of Detective Comics #27 is "worthless". SO you're saying you can afford the entire book, eh? xD

That said, sellers who place items on eBay just to show off their collection do annoy me. It's ostentatious just to place it at a ridiculous fixed price, but it's even worse to put best offer on it! Do they care how rude it is to put something out there that people would love to buy, only to auto decline their more than reasonable offers? I do not have limits on any of my books. You can offer one cent if you want(but don't please, :nyah:).

Correct. The JSA service can be conbined with other books that are not receiving this service. The JSA authentication fee will still apply but the packing slip may show a different price than the actual grouping of the submission. Thanks for checking!

I'll remember that the next time I submit. I just figured "when in doubt, separate it out". xD

Just sent in this as a tester. No, I did not get the sig graded, it's pretty obvious it's a vintage Romita sig.

I'll post the results when it gets shipped!(Figured greasing the wheels with a potential glowing review couldn't hurt the TAT :nyah:)

A little confused. I submitted this book separately for JSA Autograph Authentication. But I noticed it has been grouped together with the other 7 Moderns I submitted and the total charged to my card was $25 less than I expected(seems like $20 is for shipping and $5 is for handling? but the $22.50 charge for authentication still stands?). Is this still going to be authenticated as I originally submitted,  @MattM CS?
