Actually, was just thinking about something along that vein...

CGC should be able identify the cert #'s impacted by the scammer. If they cross reference those cert #'s against the Registry database, they could inform the current owners of an issue.

Agree that only a small subset of people use the Registry, but here's another value-add that CGC Marketing can promote to regain trust in the product and strengthen the chain of custody.

Still it reminds me of this:

Microchips can provide secure identification for pennies per unit and are more reliable than tape/stickers and easier to apply than etching numbers on a case mid-assembly line.

Here's one for scale (not my finger):

  3. Grading on the Vintage side of my submission was MUCH harder than the Modern side. I can't help but wonder if the Vintage grader had just been told his wife was leaving him right before his shift and that the grader who evaluated the Modern submission just got engaged. hm

Both batches were from the same collection and graded similarly by me. The starkest difference was in page quality. Most of the Vintage came out OW/W, some even OW, while the Modern batch ALL came out with white pages.

    A Vintage example of a book I graded 8.5:

    A Modern example of a book I graded 8.5:

Not complaining of course, but I just wish I had the happy grader on the Vintage side...

Nixon Ends Convertibility of U.S. Dollars to Gold and Announces Wage/Price Controls

    August 1971
With inflation on the rise and a gold run looming, President Richard Nixon's team enacted a plan that ended dollar convertibility to gold and implemented wage and price controls, which soon brought an end to the Bretton Woods System.

Before my time, but i learned it in Elementary school :)

    Now you tell me...

20k isnt a lot of money to CGC though.

This reminds of the scene in Lethal Weapon 2 when Leo Getz is explaining how he was scamming drug dealers dealing with billions of dollars.

"I was scamming those guys for months! Millions of dollar transactions, all in small bills. Who's gonna miss 10,000 here, 20,000 there?"

    "Drug dealers"

    "That's right. They did."

    From the website verification page:

They could put those little white stickers with metal in them that Walmart puts on high theft items. You know the ones that if you try to take them off stab your finger? That way alarms will go off back at CGC if you try to open the case at home and leave you running to the bathroom for a Band-Aid while your house is raided by 20 guys from Virginia!

    (Probably cost-prohibitive, however...)
