  1. I'm sorry the return didn't go smoothly. I honestly wouldn't have picked up on the color touch or trimming so I'm thankful to have learned something
  2. I had a collection of 6 large boxes and a handful of short boxes. Lots of full runs of 80s and 90s marvel and a few boxes of keys. In 2012 my wife and I had our first son and owned a very small house in the greater Boston area. I ended up selling everything except the keys and thought my collecting days were over. Shortly after I started having withdrawls. There were a few runs I missed, but I mostly missed collecting. But my tastes had changed. I got really into GA WWII, then transitioned into PCH, mystery / SyFy... anything LB Cole. Then the coolest thing happened. My 5 year old (now 7 year old) son fell in love with comics. He of course loves the superheroes so now I'm collecting primarily silver age heros. So to answer your question, the right size collection has changed for me allot as my priorities in life have changed. At 22 my goal was to have every comic silver surfer or punisher ever appeared in. At 30 I had less than 40 comics and at 37 my son and I collect with wreckless abandon, no real plan and rotate through 2 small boxes and probably 30 to 40 slabbed books.
  3. Ironically enough, I also made this my profile picture recently.
  4. I'll preface this by saying I'm much less experienced than many of the folks who have already weighed in. And I tend to over grade only to experience consistent disappointment when my books come back.. Call it perpetual optimism. That said, I think it's a 2.0. It presents really well and the obvious major detractors are the spine and the missing piece. I'm looking to buy a 2.0 locally and yours presents much nicer. It's a highly desirable copy because it will be "affordable", complete and looks great.
  5. This was a great read. Your story reminds me allot of my own, although I'm a bit younger and spent much of the 90s chasing down comics. I'm glad you still have your avengers 1 signed by Jack!
  6. I enjoyed this post. Honestly it's a distinction in comic book history I wasn't aware of.
  7. Not nearly as impressive as some I've seen on here, but I finished putting together a sold mid grade run of 1 - 7. I may look to upgrade #1 at some point, but I'm in no rush.
  8. Is strange world's 1 kirby's triumphant return to atlas / Marvel? Just before the super hero stuff really took off? Great looking books regardless. GL selling
  9. Umm... you seem to have missed JIM 83? But I'll take 82 incase I ever stumble into 83. Take
  10. People may disagree with my advice, but I think your on the right path. Identify the keys and get them slabbed. As for the rest, I would put together nice runs and sell them on Ebay. No reserve, take good pictures, be honest and let the market decide. It's, quick and efficient. The biggest hassel is shipping. Or you can take my approach and become emotionally attached to them in a way that makes your wife feel uncomfortable, never sell them and day dream about converting your attic into a "comic book museum."
  11. This is Marvel mystery 13. It's the first Golden Age vision. It may not be the most valuable book I own, but it's def my favorite. Pre WWII Schomberg cover.
  12. My goal is to add 2 more marvel super keys to my collection. Lower grade ASM 1, FF1, TOS39 or JIM83. If I get a good opportunity to upgrade my X1 or avengers 1 I will. Other than that I just hope to be activity growing my collection with cool SA and GA comics.
  13. Thanks for the reply. I've collected since I was 18 and I'm getting back into it largely because my 7 year old son and I do it together. I never read the books I collected until my son made me feel absolutely ridiculous for owning comic books you can't read. Although I've been loving the $1 "true believers" Marvel released. Its given us a chance to read a ton of classics like FF1 and Hulk 1.
  14. Hi, I'm just curious, how come you took it out of the holder? For transparency purposes, this is a bit out of my league right now so the question is strictly for curiosity.
  15. Ha, I thought that JIM83 was an original from the preview photos. Not that GRR. That's what I was waiting to see. Still, this is an awful lot of fun!
