  1. Ah, thanks I get it now. Ok, technically that does not count as a detached cover defect, so while I'm not sure how I would personally grade it, the grade you got is not out of the realm of possibility. And yeah, they don't write every defect in the notes. So I'd say your cleared and all is OK. Still curious about why you picked this specific book to get graded, does it have a special meaning for you?
  2. I'm a bit confused, why would the back cover be detached but not the front cover? And was anything detached when initially sent? Also, for that book, any detachment would lower it much more. The 8.5 does not account for any detachment, it is for the creasing and spine stress. And can you post a picture of it being detached because I don't see that in the images provided by CGC. And one last question, this one just out of pure curiosity, but why did you send this specific book in?
  3. My Comic Shop is my pick for the best return compared to the work you put in (which is next to no work). It also gives you a very good indication at current value and can easily be changed and even turned into an auction if you want quick cash at times.
  4. @The Sledder just wanted to give a shout out in case you still need extra help
  5. The price guide is your friend. It will highlight which vintage comic is worth more than others by giving it its own line with its own higher pricepoints. But if you are a collector, then I'd suggest just collecting instead of thinking of reselling because when it comes to reselling, the grade becomes a major factor too. As you collect, you'll learn a lot. And buy what you love, because even if you are simply collecting odds are that what you like is what someone else likes too. And thus the value is preserved through the demand based on your tastes. In the end, you'll be surrounded by books you love and while they may or may not gain value, they will still be wanted by at least one person, you.
  6. Honestly, as long as demand is higher than supply, a key book will hold value. Warehouse finds will affect books which demand is solely based on speculation or perceived rarity. Hence why chasing a trend or wanting something just because it's "valuable" may not work out.
  7. Yeah, but that you doesn't matter since they dont cater to us. They are more interested in looking like a comic book Mecca destination. Images of their warehouse get posted every now and again on the various Comic book facebook groups I'm in with people posting " wish I worked there" or "will be sure to visit" or whatever, and I don't see that for other shops, at least not on the same level. Every hobby has this type of store which is more about becoming an attraction in itself.
  8. This is a pretty old topic at this point because them being overpriced is part of their gimmick, and they dont care. They don't want to be competitive in terms of pricing, they want to be the place where you are sure to find what you are looking for.
  9. I will participate. Mix of trades/hardcovers pictured below. Will ship to US and Canada and will include Canadian chocolate bars.
  10. Just talking for myself but the mountain of mainstream media content has really burnt me out. Itself combined with its impact on the hobby by bringing in more speculation and huge magnitude in price swings for comics have made everything more overwhelming and have lessened my fun. At least for now. Plus I've been priced out for the vintage books I collected. So I don't really have much to talk about.
  11. Even though practically no one watch this year's Shazam film, golden age comics for that character are still climbing. You used to be able to buy lots of fawcetts below guide 5 years ago, but those days are long. Or at least from what I've seen and follow.
  12. It won't be strong compared to other books, but compared to prices on the same books before, yes. You could usually buy them for below guide, like 20-30% below guide, aside from keys (which is where the title of this thread comes from). But now lots are going for above guide. Like this recent auction, where the lot went for 25% above guide. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/captain-marvel-adventures-50-59-and-67-group-fawcett-publications-1945-46-total-3-/a/122318-11047.s?ic2=mybidspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyBids-101116 Same thing with this one random comic: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/whiz-comics-49-fawcett-publications-1943-cgc-vf-75-off-white-pages-captain-marvel-cover-and-art-by-c-c-beck/a/122318-11286.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Inventory-BuyNowFromOwner-MyBids-101116 And this lot went for 50% over guide for FR-GD copies https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/captain-marvel-adventures-group-of-13-fawcett-publications-1944-53-condition-average-gd-total-13-comic-books-/a/122236-11183.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  13. Man, so much can change in 2-3 years. The market for these got hot and prices went up. How do we rename threads? I'd change this to Fawcett Comics Appreciation thread. I didn't buy much at all since the last time I poked my head out, I got most of the ones I wanted and the ones I don't have are too expensive to my liking. BUT I did find this on ebay recently for 70$. Obviously, not in great shape, but it's complete and the colours are vibrant and I didn't have to pay hundreds just to have one in my collection.
  14. There's no big movie coming out for another month. So I'm pretty sure Wakanda Forever will get to at least 900 mil like Dotore Strano.
  15. My thoughts on Wakanda Forever. It was good but very long , with not enough points of excitement that would make me go back to it often. Honestly, I could have done without all the white people, it could have simply been about 2 dueling nations without getting the rest of the world involved, which in turn needed more cutting back to and a longer run time. LOVED Namor. He's purposefully larger than life in the comics to a point of parody almost, which makes him a harder character to adapt. And I think they pulled a monumental feat with this adaptation. He was charismatic but still very much an antagonist, which feels very classic silver age but in the MCU. It was a perfect adaptation of the character within the MCU and showed what he could specifically bring to it that no one else could. Also, and this is purely subjective, I was si damn glad that they showed off Angela Basset and Lupita Nyong'o's curves in this films and did not shy away from their incredible beauty, something I felt the first film did. I know there's been some talk that this film may have too much "estrogen" but, true to form, Namor provides all the testosterone a film would ever need. I felt the balance there worked well. Oh another issue I has was with the CGI for Ironheart's final amor. It was way too smooth, giving it almost a 2D feel, which may have been intentional to go with the anime vibes of the suit. But it didn't look like she was in the suit in the shots where she removes the faceplate. Im the end the film is long but there's goid stuff. Loved the women and loved the man, Imperious Rex!
  16. There's also one where he meets a penguin that I could do without.
  17. Congrats, that's one that I myself have been looking for.
  18. Well saying they "can be" means it's not a rule. That's the whole point. They are golden age gems that can go for thousands, but they can also go for less than $100. Like these 2 that I just picked up. Bought them from Harley at a Canadian con so I paid the sticker price but in Canadian dollars so they came out to $50 USD and $60 USD respectively (no tax, no shipping of course). Pretty cheap for GA. One's a Raboy and the other is a Communist Menace cover.
  19. Here is my haul from the Montreal Comiccon, all the Fawcett books are from Harley Yee. Also got sketches from Kevin Eastman and Dan Parent.
