  1. I have lots of others but too tired to take any more pictures. Will post during the week. Some of these books were found in dollar boxes.
  2. Some stuff I have had sitting at CGC forever. Very happy with the results based on what I paid for the books. Especially the Hulk Annual 15 and the Fear 19 (Western Penn).
  3. I would tend to agree...until you get 5-6 people fighting for the best in set for a specific title. Everyone needs the same book and after 10 years of looking 1 finally shows up. At that point it is the sellers market. Unless you are selling to a friend.
  4. That's the rub with this book. Over the years I have found many copies that look like 9.8 candidates based on the front covers condition only to have the air let out of my sails when the back cover has tiny color breaks on it. Still I was fortunate enough to bring the first 2 9.8 copies to market.
  5. Any color breaks on the back? Book is also notorious for the back cover as well.
  6. I don't even know what to say about this book anymore. This info will probably spawn a four page argument though, haha. Interesting. I have one coming back from grading this week.
  7. Calling something a raw 9.9 has no basis in reality. You can say that you believe it is a 9.9 based upon whatever grading scale you are using. But equating that to CGC giving it a 9.9 is nothing but speculation, with one exception - when you are getting books that have had very little handling directly from a fresh case. I have submitted 5 9.9s and a 10 in 10 years of subbing books. The only ones that I legitimately thought, "wow, these are amazing and may be better than 9.8" were the Cursed Pirate Girls I got directly out of the distributor box from Jeremy Bastian. On the other hand I have subbed dozens and dozens of 9.8s that I was positive had a legit shot at Mint or Gem Mint. And one that got a 9.6, but that one got sketched on. I would say I am a seasoned grader and I have called a few 9.9's and a single 10.0, but that is out of how many books over the last 9 years? Granted I deal with very few moderns like the Zenoscope books (they rarely come across my desk as they don't need to) so I would have to agree with Sean that "Calling something a raw 9.9 has no basis in reality".
  8. Would you define 2006 as recent?
  9. I once pressed a bunch of Star Wars #1's into a Hulk #1. I have had close to 50 copies of this book in 9.8 over the years.
  10. What is the highest you have seen, DivaD? 6.5-7.0? I don't recall offhand. And, as the OP states, I don't believe the notation is consistent on blue labels. I think we need to hear from those who have submitted and requested a Blue label. Not in response to your question, but I have a 9.2 Green label (Marvel Spotlight #1) that has a nice clean staple pop. It is noted on the label. Highest I have seen is a 7.5. I have seen 9.6's that were qualified.
  11. York PA Is the round the clock diner still there?
  12. Actually that is my secret, use only your fingers. If it won't open with just your fingers, it is too snug and will probably crack if you use a tool of any sort. By using your fingers, it may hurt, but after awhile, just like with playing a guitar, your fingers will develop calluses. I have had lots of practice. I can build a house out of plastic if I had saved them all. Do you keep the good ones ? I'm sure you could probably sell them. However, after this thread, maybe it's not the right thing to do. I throw everything out. Do the slabs go in the recycle bin? I try, but most of the time they take them out not knowing what they are.

  15. I think I would have to see a youtube video of this to really believe it. Although I have tried on numerous occasions to see if it was remotely possible, every slab I have cracked has either ended up splintering all over the cracked along the side as Bomber Bob described. And even if I could pop one corner with even a slight crack, the second post inevitably destroys the slab every time (or at least made it extremely "tamper evident"). -J. Perhaps if you had read his posting you would comprehend the point he was making; Brought the slab in "directly from the cold" The colder the temperature the greater the contraction of the material, so what beaumonts is reporting is completely plausible. I read his post and comprehended it fine, thanks. There are plenty of people on these boards that live in cold climate and that may or may not have anything to do with his experience. If anything I'm inclined to think bomber-bob's results are typical and that the posts can snap back together but could easily be pulled apart again with the fingers, thus making it obvious if the slab has been tampered with, if in hand. -J. two dots of crazy glue can take care of that. Once you know the technique you can crack out slabs with your fingers with little to no damage to the case.
  16. Was able to order one of these for my son. We are both pumped over how cool it is.
  17. I just sold Jeff a Godzilla #15 and 23 signed and he was a pleasure to deal with.
