  1. Uh oh, october is afflicted with 3F ("Fox Fine Fever")...you're on a roll, pal!

    STEVE

steve, looks like i've contracted it as well; going after the first 12 mystery men now, since mrbedrock put me on to my second one the other day.

Ahhh, congrat's Billy - I thought it was a real beauty and was sorely tempted to get it myself (but then I'd be back in the Greedy SOB thread with two pedigree copies of the same book, and we can't have that!).

    STEVE

steve, one of mine is an allentown, and the other is of course the nova scotia of which you speak--since you know this area well, what are the chances i could find recognized p'grees of the other 10? i guess the 1 would require a third mortgage on the house [second was for the marvel 1, natch].

  2. When I started collecting comics again about 4 years ago, I said Paul just focus on Silver age Marvel, and DC's Showcase title. Keep my interests small in hopes of completing nice full silver age runs. Quickly that expanded into a few more DC titles and most early bronze and all bronze keys.

When last year I decided after completing 95% of my marvel, and huge chunks of DC at least keys and short and or early runs, to collect GA Timely's, I thought cool I can stay focused on these few titles. Captain America, MMC, All Select, All Winners, and all GA Cap books. That should be more than enough to keep me busy for the next 20 years. I was so wrong, since joining the boards I have found myself interested in so many diff. books my head is spinning. So I just picked up my first two Planet Comics in high grade VF- range issue 50, and 55! I will post pics later next week when they arrive. Very excited, keeping up with my new found interests and the Jones's is expensive! 27_laughing.gif

That's the same way Billy Parker started out. So look at his collection and see yourself in ten years! A broke, surly, bitter old man with one incredible assortment of comics!

you may be right; and don't call me Surly!

Well, it seems like a good time to post books, now that BangZoom is taking some time off... is there really any point posting books at the same time he is?

Thanks to CentaurMan for this WONDERful book ... a really nice low grade copy of a rare book. (i'm using his scan, as its way nicer than the results i'd get). The interior art is really nice, and the Wonderman story just cracks me up... its classic golden age. The Bob Kane story is a beaut.

A great cornerstone in my small collection!! 893applaud-thumb.gif

    just too cool ryan.

  5. Actually, Billy, all kidding aside.......AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

you better like them, since a good 15 or more came thru bedrock city over the years! oh, and thank ciorac [who no doubt is thumbing up books right next to you as you read this] for putting a good dozen or more in the picture as well.

  6. I thought I'd update my group shot before some go back to the bank. The MM3, from Rick, is the only restored book. The 30 is pretty sharp with white paper. 26 and 36 are a couple of my favorites. I hope you like?

  7. Mr. B I don't want to get interupt the posting sequence but I'm hoiping you have a few high garde copies of issues #16 and #74 to share with us. popcorn.gif

16 as soon as it is slabbed. I sold the White Mountain 74 two years ago. I now have very few Timelys after 1944.

That is a gorgeous copy, 6.0 if my memory serves me correct?

Yes, and killer pages. It had a tiny little chip on the bottom right corner of the front cover. That was one of the toughest decisions!

I am sure that I have posted this many times, but its very nice.....Not White Mt.,but still a real nice 6.0 and one of the better known copies to exist. I have seen a most and I think mine is better than most.

pretty Paul, feel free to post it repeatedly.

  8. Okay. So I was asked to post this last night. I pulled out a few other goodies as well.

    So without further adoo........

That was the one that was on Comic Link last year, freaking awesome book. Your collection is astounding Mr. B. hail.gif

    Thanks Surfer (but)

This one was never on Comic Link. been in the family for about ten years.

it's so sweet of you to mention our geek family. i know our northern brothers are pleased as well.

  9. 893applaud-thumb.gif I've never seen so many Reilly Timelys in my life! How many you got, man? Also, those MM & Cap #2's are phenomenal. I noticed the "P" on the MM #2, could it be a Pennsylvania? Not sure if there was one. If you gots a Cap #27, I'd love to see it. I got a feeling I'll fall out of my chair if posted. hail.gif Please keep the thread hijack ROLLIN'! Great great stuff and thanks for sharing.

Thanks. I am posting stuff as I get it slabbed. The Caps from 11 to 40 haven't been done yet. (It costs, you know). I have a few Reilly's, including the Cap 26. Have a nice 27, you will see it someday. Get a seat-belt ready. I have no idea if the MM2 is the Penn. Was slabbed when I got it and there are a lot of Ps running around. Thanks again!

i'd be all gaga over these pictures if it were not for the fact i have fondled these books many, many times. used up all my gagaing in person.

    just wonderful stuff ricky.

  10. Rick,

Thanks for deciding to part with the book, I will treasure it for years to come. Got an email from Metro yesterday about it and followed up with Frank and the rest is history.

    Cheers, Vern

vern, you did great...I was really "torn" on that book too, but I got a few other nice MMC out of it, so life is good for both of us!

    rick

allright speedy gonzales, tell us what your total is up to on mm's, including purchases still out in the mail void, since picking up the first one last month.

  11. From my understanding these were not "Timely" file copies but rather advertizers copies that were found. I too have some and have seen many. Most seem to be in the 7.0-8.5 range.

    West

I have but one of these (the staple holes are visible in the following scan) - beautiful books with nice paper.

Not sure if West can answer this, but how would an 8.5 book with such staple holes grade out through CGC?

    100_1768.jpg

    STEVE

if west says they'll bump the grade up for pay/file copies, my stapler stands at the ready.

here's my one such book; mr. bedrock told me years ago he thought it was one of these pay/file copies.
