Well Spiderman is Americas Hero right now.But Superman is more popular world wide.
where do you get that from? comparisons are never definitive, but take for example the excellent superman returns movie from last year, versus spidey 3. being a spideyfanatic, i prefer the latter, but being a movie buff i recognize that the superman movie may be technically superior. the supe movie crawled [they kept it out extra long for the purpose] to 200 mil domestically, around the world didn't quite get to 400 [390's as i recall]. spidey 3 up to 320 or so dom., well over 800 billion already worldwide. the idea that superman is more popular world wide than spiderman is a d.c. lovers pipe-dream. i like supey just fine, but it ain't close these days.

You have to imagine you were REALLY spending $126,000 of your own hard earned money....which one would you choose, and why
?
.............or
AF15 in 1/100th of a second for me.....but this is a GA forum. What say you ?
Steve

That is awesome!! I am so glad you got that book. That issue and the Wow 9 are always on my want list.
Thanks! I must say that they look great side by side as well
Next on the hard to find want list is Wow #10. Metro is the only one that has one and it's the Church copy so it's a bit out of my price range
I'm in a similar situation. I need Exciting 9, they have one. It is also the Church copy and out of my price range......
c'mon, admit it, it's exciteMENT you need!

no graemlin necessary; imagine me bowing over here next to my to my desk--oops, secretary just walked in. gonna be some time explaining this one.
Are the facsimile jackets good quality?
I'd like to get them for my King Kong and Frankenstein Photoplay Editions.
Bang---both of the jackets are available on the site--they are pretty.

they are beautiful; the guy actually laser scans the 'real thing' into his computer, enhances the defects away [damn, i hope i didn't just get him in trouble with NOD], and produces an amazing product on really good paper stock. do a search for those books--hope he has one or both.

That's the most beautiful group shot you've posted yet, BZ!
Most of the copies look brand new -- if it was anyone else posting I'd swear they were reprints.
i'm a fellow first edition collector, and there is a website available that is called "facsimiledustjackets.com" where a gillion jackets are available at $20 a pop. it is good to protect valuable books that have lost their jackets with the replacements. no shame in buying them at all--i have a dozen or so in my library. bz, any facsimile jackets in there?
Not a one.

Steve,
If you like 2-66, it is hard to not go for the rest of the run. There really isn't a bad issue. My first Marvel Mystery was #72 and that led to.....well you can imagine!
So welcome to the Timely fold!
Richard
the first marvel mystery of MrBedrock?
??
? you must really treasure that one. it would take a truly, truly, truly, truly [did i mention "truly?"] great collector to get that one out of your grasp. i doubt such a collector exists.
-
It was a blue label 3.0 originally.
beautiful regardless of the grade.
-
woo hoo....a green timely cover, gotta love it!
rick
you don't have a green one yet, do you? there aren't many.

I especially like the Target #5. Your info on the Mile High is a little off though. It actually sold for $12,500 with the premium. I was the under bidder on it, but just made a deal to buy it. See, all of us Timely guys chase the same books!
Those early Targets feel like a cross between a Timely and a Centaur...Everett, Burgos, Mills, Thompson, etc.
And Target 5 has the Wolverton classic "Creeping Death from Neptune" story as SpaceHawk begins. What a great book!
STEVE
Which issue has the sequel, "Creeping death from Uranus"?
that's in Big-Fhot 6

Fifth and Final Book (for now):
i am not at all happy this beauty was not available for me to purchase at my recent visit to the westheimer store. it was put aside for you. i tried to lift it, but he kept an eye on me at all times. congratulations. and tell M. i said hello.

my favorite femme fatale cover.

oh, this is rare, and makes me jealous. in my own pea-brained, meandering way, i've come to want all the captain battles, because when i needed #3 for the chesler run, i naturally had to have them all. this book hasn't been for sale ANYWHERE in the many months that i've been searching it. found a 1, 3 is common, but this book is HARD.
bang, now that i've explained the urgency in my acquiring this book, i'll just p-mail you with my address.

\A couple of recent pick-ups. Two pretty dragon covers!to be sure, it's a great cover under any analysis, but if dweeby wasn't in the boat that would be one of the greatest of all d.c. golden age covers outside 'tec and more fun.
-
Pod thank you. Yeah I never noticed this cover for the longest time, probably because you don't see too many copies kicking around. Have to get back to work.
just a wonderful book surfer. big pat on the back.

if you keep bragging about these comedys, you'll force me to post my #11---you don't want that, do you?
Yes, please do. Complete the set!
are you remembering mine correctly? even if it's posted, the set will still be incomplete.

And one seen even less.......

I have a questions for you guys. I was looking at that pretty MMC #32 on Metro's site. Who is the cover artist? I don't think it's Schromburg, but who? Cool cover and a nice looking copy I thought. I'm kinda of scared to even call and ask what the price would be. Do you think it would go for over $3000? That's a book I don't see very often. VF/NM?
If a true 9.0 it could easily sell for more than $3000, but feel Metro over grades on many of these books, but that is just my own observation from perusing their web site. They have serveral books I would like to own, but price and condition(or at least stated condition vs. the way the present in scan) have made me slow or not able to pull the trigger. I would prefer to buy a CGC book at that level, just to protect my arse!
As per AtlasTales, it's by Al Gabriele. He also did issues # 30 and 31.
Thanks for the info. It is still a very pretty book, just not sure it's a 9.0, but I do like that cover.
rahigh, you are very prescient--this is a fairly rare book. i was ruthlessly beaten out of my beautiful copy of this book years ago by some guy with a trade offer i couldn't/didn't refuse--i replaced it immediately with a beater as i had the run almost complete and couldn't have the hole. it took me FOREVER to upgrade to a fine'ish type book, which i've had just a few months.
-
Something with a little historical importance....
i'm forever happy this book is in my geek family.

Not a comic but cool.
VERY cool.
Which one would you choose ????
