Torchy and Namora are great!
yes they are, but this is probably my favorite timely girl cover, and as a bonus check the wonderful centerfold.
That's a great book and very hard to find in any condition, that one is beautiful!
I'll look forward to the Purple covers:)
sharon, a few years ago heritage had both the crowley and the church m.a. 1 in the same auction--9.0 and 9.2 i think. but when you looked at both books back to back, it was unbelieveable how much brighter and more colorful the mile high was. you probably could track them down on the archives--something to see.
and thanks.

What a nice idea:) I'm sure I have a bunch cause that's what I usually focus on, so I'll look tomorrow, but for now...one of my favorite purple covers...
[
sharon, i also have a real weakness for purple covers. pretty book.
Billy, another Purple cover, starring Gale Allen...
wonderful! i'll try to see if i can scan some purple covers tomorrow. know i have some atlas books, and a jungle too that is pp [primarily purple!]. alot of my d.c.'s are pp too, just different.

Just in today...
...and another nice pre-1930 Amazing Stories for my collection...Vol. 1 #8
LOVE the pulp.

thanks ken and surfer.

Thank you GE that is a great copy you got there. (thumbs u I never see the #55 around too often and I'm looking forward to cracking this one out of its shell.
that is a gorgeous book. now that we're talking d.c.'s, here's my d.c. collection in full formation. just stuck it over in group.
Pretty cool group Billy.
When did you get the '40 World's Fair? Did I miss that or am I having a brain fart?
you missed it; about 6 weeks old i'd say--ebay buy.

Great trio, Billy!
The Science #3 is still one of my very favorite Foxes, inside and out. I'd love to find a copy that presents that well. Very nice!
thanks, sir. i'm giving some thought to pursuing all the fox books thru July '40. but don't tell my wife.
bobbi....bobbi....guess what!
"bobbi...bobbi...guess what! it looks like you're back on for going to the florida game with me--my former friend can't make it"

back to the foxes; here's some new pick-ups.

Very cool assortment of books, btw: always liked that Boy Commandos cover.
thank you sir; and not to denigrate the d.c. line, but i quite frankly felt stiffly challenged to find a "good" cover on some of the titles. i, too, like the boy commandos cover, and insofar as comic cavalcade goes, whew.
-
I like the fact that they're alphabetical...well, except for that Western Comics at the end.
yeah, i, uh, did that, like, you know, on purpose.
-
But why are there stripes in the background? Are they racing?
only way i could keep my columns semi-str8.

definitive proof of my open-mindedness. only a few more to go for my 'one of each d.c. golden age title' collection [for purposes of this run, only titles/books thru '49 will count, and has to be a big logo where applicable; the other loose criterion was that i've tried for really good covers].
thanks go to gator for the bat 11.

I LOVE Planets, the colors on the covers are just spectacular, these are my newest acquisitions, thanks to a very nice person.
way to go Sharon! beautiful books. can't tell you how much i prefer the original logo to the one that came on in the 20's.

Thx, Guys. Appreciate the feedback~! (thumbs u
wish i had the one you got, but i did go on the site and get the 216. thanks for the heads-up that there were others.
Good for you! And congratulations -- that book is a beauty too!
thanks. i want the red one so bad, but it's so hi-grade that i just can't pull the trigger up at that price right now. it's gonna make somebody VERY happy.

As Ryan requested......
The Timely thread guys are going to have to slum over here for a moment.....
Those of those who are astute have noticed that there is no #5. Use to have the 5- in fact use to have the Church copy....no did not sell it....it was part of a trade back in 1999 for thi piece of art that I was in/at "right place, right time" when I picked up the cover for Planet Comics1- the centerpiece of my entire collection....jon
Thanks so much Jon!! Worth waiting for! Its a run that one day I hope to complete ... just have to fill in those pesky issues between #1 and #8.
HOWEVER, I was really hoping for a #5! Well, you can't have everything. Well, YOU can ... PLANET COMICS #1 original cover art!! I'd say thats EVERYTHING!! An unbelievable piece to own.
You can always pick up that sweet copy of #5 on Metro's site... an 8.0 I think, a bit out of my range.
here ya' go brother.

And this,of course, was the one from the Action run I bought (look how young Matt was!)
wasn't this the original owner collection from a little ole lady who lived round the corner of the comic shop and walked in one day with Action #1 thru #18 or something,.. that's the way I heard the story,.. please clarify any discrepancies.
Pretty much. She called first to see if we were interested. The collection also had a long run of pre-hero More Funs and Adventures, some Batman Detectives. Just an awesome collection.
"to see if we were interested"
Now that's funny,.. "no maam, sorry we wouldn't be interested in Unrestored Action Comics #1 thru #18 plus an assortment of other GA DCs. do you have any POGS to sell ?"
thanks for the info Ciorac. (thumbs u
bill, didn't another store actual pretty much say just that?
rick
She did call another store first, and he sent her my way. He told her that he had no funds or a market for golden age.
Bless him.
pons, i understand action 1 is a pretty cool book, but does it really justify a smile of that wattage? wait, where's mattie's right hand? ooooohhhhh, i get it.

What do you think a Blue label Action #1 8.5 would go for, tied with top of Census!
Would appriciate everyone's thoughts.
P
i've been offered tickets to the lsu/usc nat'l championship game in N.O. in exchange for my 8.5 Action 1. i turned it down.

why are so many of you SO sure there are THAT many AF15 9.6s out there? Isnt it asking a lot to think so many pristine copies would have survived from so early in the SA? I think it would signal "game over" to many of us if we ever got to a point where the census filled up to that extent... especially on the holy grail early key books.
I doubt there are very many. I've seen a couple in private collections that may be in that grade range, but can't be sure. There is a possibility of pressing a couple 9.2's or 9.4's on up though.
what is this "pressing" you're talking about?
-
this is a case where the detective in me would choose the AA 16....tec 38 is "common", and even in high grade, far more readily available than "any" unrestored AA 16 (gd or better)...
gator
I agree with Rick. And for the record I will take the MF 52 as well.
well, no kidding. you didn't call your stores "all star comics" did you?
