  1. I preordered a book from an Australian publisher, and it has been pushed back numerous times. Apparently, their covid restrictions have been very strict in Australia during the last few months.
  2. Back in the 90s, I had a 6ft poster of Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver in the mohawk pointing a gun. Not quite as cool as Dracula and the Frankenstein poster, but my mom sure hated it. Haha
  3. I don't remember reading The Nam much as a kid in the 80s. I picked up a few here and there, and was a Punisher fan, so I had a few of those. However, a few years ago, I came across a set of the first 6 issues at a shop and picked them up. What a great read. I went ahead and picked up some more, and probably have the first 20 or so issues, and a few later stragglers. It is a great book that really transports you there. It reminds me a bit of the late 80s tv series Tour of Duty if anyone remembers that, a very gritty and realistic show. It's a shame that the series jumped the shark a bit going down the stretch, but I get it. When sales drop, you've got to try some different things. The first dozen or so issues though, are absolutely stellar. Someone earlier in the thread mentioned Vietnam Journal. I have the first issues of that series as well. In fact, I think I decided to pick them up a few years back after rediscovering The Nam. VJ is definitley a bit rawer than The Nam overall. A bit more graphic, some darker themes and saltier language, etc. It was an independent book while Nam was Marvel. That said, I think The Nam did a great job of getting into some darker themes as well considering the comics code and being a Marvel book and all. But if you're looking for a book about the war that didn't have to sanitize anything, Vietnam Journal would be the one.
  4. I was born in 82, and GI Joe was the first comic I ever read. I also picked up some Transformers issues back then too. I agree that it's surprising to see how crazy the prices have gotten for each series' first issue lately, especially considering how many are out there. At one point in the 80s, GI Joe was Marvel's top selling book for instance. I still need to get a TF1. I've come close a few times over the years, but it hasn't worked out. I should motivate myself. I always preferred the Joes, but the Transformers were up there for me too. I still have some later issues in the collection.
  5. Perhaps the lovely Yvonne Craig was doing research for her upcoming role? The colors certainly pop on her copy.
  6. Yes, this! Missed this post before. The thrill of the hunt is probably the driving force for most collectors. As good as it feels to finally track down a certain treasure you've been after, eventually that wears off and you're after the next one. It never ends. Ha!
  7. I happen to be into a few different collector hobbies (comics, vintage baseball cards, records, blus, vintage video games), so if I burn myself out on something, or get priced out on something, I have other interests to scratch my collector itch. After finally getting my Batman 181 a little while back (join our club), I haven't bought any big comics. I was after that one for ages. I still visit my local regularly and read a few current comics, but there aren't any "big" issues I'm after at the moment, which is kind of nice actually. I may have just splurged on a Mantle card though, but it was a good deal in relation to the current market. I'll be curtailing the spending for a bit though.
  8. Now you need to add the matching hat. Ha! Just came across this on ebay, don't think I could pull it off though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/303947932803?hash=item46c4b56483:g:3nkAAOSwFC9gazFd
  9. Was getting some books for my kids at Barnes & Noble, and they nailed me with this impulse buy in the check out line. Ha! Love it.
  10. You have to admire their consistency... ATOM AGE. The period recognized by the industry as being between 1946, after the dropping of the Atomic bomb, and continuing until the start of the Silver Age, in 1956. GOLDEN AGE. CGC Registry term for a period of comic book publishing that ran from Action Comics #1 (June 1938) through 1959. SILVER AGE. CGC Registry term for comics published 1960 through 1969. They also define Bronze as 1970 to 79 and Copper as 1980 to 89. However, I've seen Copper defined as 1984 to 91 in other sources. But I don't think there's a universally accepted rule when it comes to the cusp years. Well, obviously there isn't since even CGC disagrees with itself regarding them.
  11. Josh Saviano played Paul Pfeiffer on 'The Wonder Years.' Apparently, he's a California-based attorney nowadays. Perhaps he is related to your presser. Just throwing that out there. Haha
  12. I was actually going to post the same thing that Buzzetta just beat me to. Go over them carefully and confirm that they are your books, and that they didn't pull the switcheroo on you. I can't tell enough from your pics, but I will say that the white landing strip on the Spider Woman book looks a bit different down near the barcode between the two pics.
  13. I think the biggest reason for the disparity is the overall success of Marvel's parent conglomerate compared to DC's. With the exception of their ESPN division, Disney has had a very strong decade while Warner/ATT has floundered comparatively. Had ATT bought Star Wars and started Warner Plus, the shoe could very well have been on the other foot, but Disney has made a lot of strong moves that have paid off. Simply put, they've been kicking butt and taking names, and they've turned the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a juggernaut. DC's movies have been financially successful for the most part, but they don't have that massive wall of exposure/output that the Disney Marvel franchises do, and I think that's the biggest difference. I'd say it has almost nothing to do with the quality of the DC or Marvel franchises, it's the way that Disney has marketed them. Meaning that if Disney owned DC instead of Marvel and treated the franchises the same way with movies, Disney Plus, merchandising, rides at theme parks, or whatever else, their positions would be flipped right now, and this thread would be about why DC's books are so much hotter than Marvel's. Of course, that's all just my opinion, and I could be wrong. ;D
  14. I don't have many comic related statues, but I did pick up this Batgirl from DC Direct a while back. I saw a different one at a store, and thought they did a terrible job on Barbara's face, so I decided to do a bit of research and found this one. I love it.
  15. Do you own the following books? Well, come show them off and hang out with the cool kids in the newest club on the boards! Detective Comics 359 (1st Batgirl) Batman 181 (1st Poison Ivy) Batman Adventures 12 (1st Harley Quinn) These 3 books just belong together. The first appearances of 3 of the most important women in the Batman Universe. So, let's see those Ladies of Gotham sets. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
  16. I had to go a whole day without seeing greggy being confused or having Jimbo bless me. It was toruture!
  17. I like that club idea. I thought they just fit naturally together, but the fact is that it's 2 silvers and a modern, so it is a bit off kilter as you put it. Regardless, Jesse-Lee and I can't be the only guys who think the set looks great. They're my favorite Bat books. Beautiful, colorful covers, and 1st appearances of some of the top ladies in the DC Universe. And all 3 characters are so intertwined with each other regardless of the time of their 1 appearances.
  18. Pretty cool. I still have a stack of them from back in the day, along with some EGM and Gamepro. I had no idea that CGC graded them, but it makes sense. They've gotten expensive and collectible the last few years. That issue 2 Castlevania cover is still my favorite. What a bas@$$ cover.
  19. That's great, man! Congrats on completeing the set. Really nice color on those books too, particularly the DC359. I've noticed that one tends to show color fade more than most due to the gradiant purple background.
  20. @greggy You've got some great books there. And I mean this sincerely, not trying to offend, but maybe in the future, just post a few of your favorites, and then hide the rest in a spoiler tag. For those not viewing the site via high speed internet, loading this page can slow to a crawl with that many images. A spoiler tag hides them until we click on it. Again, not trying to offend, it's just a helpful forum tip.
  21. Thanks. I remember talking to you about that in one of the Batman threads a while back when you got your 181. They do go well together, don't they? I bought that BA12 from a boardie last year, wasn't cheap, but they've definitely gone up some since then (like just about everything). But that said, they seem to be fairly plentiful on ebay nowadays, at least the direct editions anyway, so I'm sure with a bit of patience and vigilance you'll be able to get one for a fair price. I was thinking that the 1st appearance of Catwoman would be a cool addition at some point as well, but then I realized that she debuted in Batman 1. Hahaha Her first silver appearance is in a Lois Lane book, and I'm not crazy about it really. I was thinking maybe her first cover appearance which is Detective 122. Still pretty dang expensive, but maybe someday. It's a nice looking cover.
  22. Holy ! That's a heck of a week's work. Nice books.
  23. It's been a banner week for my Bat collection. The 181 "1st Poison Ivy" has finally arrived. I'd been after this book for ages, and finally got one at the price I was shooting for. I was actually looking for a 5.0 to match the 1st Batgirl, but 5.5 is close enough. Displayed with her sisters in the basement gaming nook. Haha And this arrived over the weekend, and is now mounted on the wall in my main mancave area. It's an animation cel from a set that WB issued in the mid-90s from 'Batman the Animated Series.' I loved the show, and when I saw this piece for sale, I had to have it. Batgirl's hair is really vibrant when you see it in person. I was able to negotiate a price that both the seller and myself were happy with.
