  1. Throughout most of the 70s, the regular GI Joe line was pivoted to the "Adventure Team" line of Joes which focused more on Joes in nature, the jungles and such. This was due largely to negative public opinion of the Vietnam War; Hasbro wanted to distance the original war theme of the GI Joe line. The big military relaunch of Joes as 3 3/4 inch figures in 82 alongside the comic and (shortly thereafter) cartoon series was a direct response to Kenner's massive success with the Star Wars toyline.
  2. 1st print TMNT 1s are legit rare, and especially rare in high grade. There are tons more FF1s in circulation by comparison. You have to do what's right for you and your wife, but don't lose sight of that fact. Procuring another TMNT1 in similar condition will be no easy feat.
  3. So true. I still can't figure that out either. I guess it could be somewhat attributed to the popularity of the Marvel movies, but Batman movies have been just as popular (if not more so) over the years, so that doesn't quite make sense either. All I know is that we can afford sweet Silver Bat keys, so it's all right with me.
  4. I've been after that book for a long time. I just missed an auction for it. Sniped at the last second, I had in a strong bid too. Ugh I was shooting for a 5.0 because I already have Detective 359 in a 5.0. I think they go great together, along side Batman Adventures 12 which features Batgirl and Ivy on the cover with Harley Quinn.
  5. That's one of my favorite covers in the entire run. I decided to pull mine out to take a look, and I noticed that all 3 have different colored backgrounds, green, tan and grey. Interesting. 2 of them are otherwise identical newsstand printings as well. My "black spidey" copy appears to have the same grey color as your Canadian newsstand. Notice that the shading in the green copy is much more pronounced across the face and the fingers. The tan copy's shading is barely noticeable by comparison.
  6. Honestly, as far as the way the comic market worked prior to the last decade or so, the OP wasn't wrong. 20 years ago, population count mattered when it came to a book's value. If it wasn't a Golden or major key Silver, the comparatively massive populations of high grade key Bronze books kept their prices down. But somehow over the last 10 years, that stopped mattering, and now key Bronze books with high grade populations well into the thousands are now commanding crazy high prices. The comic market has had a massive shift in how it operates compared to 2003. So, for guys to be rolling around laughing at how silly the OP is, that was actually a fair assessment of the market back then. Things change.
  7. 9.4 OW/W sold for 7100 yesterday. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133755812297?epid=85376911&hash=item1f2477b9c9%3Ag%3AxtMAAOSwfKtgmBgF&redirect=mobile&nma=true&si=JVZMF3l2WQHsDfuRMkhpGh%2F2%2F4E%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  8. As far as Snake Eyes keys, 93 and 133 will probably get some attention. They're already fairly well known among collectors, so they'll be tougher to find for cheap. And 144 is completely under the radar as far as I know, but it has potential. Late release with a low print run, and it's another story about Snake's early years, and gets into some dark family stuff. I doubt that a modern movie will go into his Vietnam years, they'll surely retcon it to something more contemporary, but I can see them using his same family history. As far as 1st appearances and all that, I honestly can't keep track of those. There are so many Joes. Hahaha, But there's a great database on yojoe.com that covers every issue: https://www.yojoe.com/comics/marvel-comics-gijoe-a-real-american-hero/
  9. I finished the Marvel set a few weeks back. It was a good feeling finally completing the set. There are still a couple that I'd like to condition upgrade, but all the heavy lifting is done. I have a feeling the key Snake Eyes books will be going up soon with a new movie looming on the horizon, so anyone thinking about collecting Joe books right now should probably look into getting some of those first.
  10. I'll take the following at 20% off... X-men 152 VFNM $10 X-men 156 VF $5 X-men 166 F/VF $5 X-men 165 VF $5 X-men 162 VF $8
  11. Kirk is easy to talk to and a good dude. We had a smooth transaction, fast payment and good communication. Thanks!
  12. You've got it. Dr. Noonian Soong I think it was. Love TNG.
  13. I believe the single biggest influence was the 50s scifi B movie 'It! The Terror from Beyond Space.' 'Alien' follows the plot and concept very closely, but obviously there were other influences as well. But as for the design of the xenomorph, I'm not entirely sure. There was an article I read in 'Starlog Magazine' years ago that mentioned something about a surrealist artist and Greek mythology, but I'd have to do the research, and that ain't happening at the moment. hahaha
  14. Regarding Frank Miller's Daredevil run, he came back in the 220s and wrote the brilliant "Born Again" story arc. It runs about 5 or 6 issues.
  15. Michael is the man! Great guy to deal with and packages his books like a boss. Thanks, homie!
  16. Yeah, most books from the late 80s to mid 90s or so were printed in such ridiculously high numbers, that I would have a difficult time purchasing at the current values. Particularly X books which were hugely popular during that era. As many as are already graded, I have to think that there are many more out there in high grade that will join the census in the years to come. I would say that if you're dead set on obtaining books from this era in high grade, that you focus on newsstand editions and Canadian price variants. Because those were printed in lower numbers than the direct, and in the case of the newsstands at least, are tougher to find in high grade.
  17. Agreed. I have an old ASM that was pressed, and I don't like how flat it looks. It's kind of weird, and you can see through the Amazing logo a little bit. I've noticed that on a lot of pressed books actually. Granted, on some books it's common to have the logo be just a little translucent, but on pressed books it's really obvious.
  18. You know, we 9.4 OW/W owners have feelings too.
  19. Damn! Next time warn a brutha! I totally would have bought that from you. I recall you beating me to one in one of those f5 sale threads a couple weeks back. That book keeps eluding me. If you want that extra 52 I've got, just holler.
  20. I've been piecing the set together over the past 2-3 years. Cleaned out my locals, and picked off a few ebay lots here and there, it's been fun. Officially, I only need 154 and 9 to complete the 155 issue Marvel set. And I need 18 and 19 to complete Special Missions. There are a couple I'd like to upgrade condition on, 16 and 38 come to mind. And a handful of the early ones are in the 2nd printing with the black Spidey instead of the barcode or white Spidey, so I keep my eyes peeled for those as well. I have a ton of doubles, including quite a few high numbers, even some extras in the 150s, but the only one I have that's on your list is 52. Sorry, homie.
