  1. Nice. Congatulations Steve. That is a great book.
  2. Andy, those Headline Comics are just plain Bad Azz. I would love to own a copy of the #8 one day. Here are two of several nice BA books I picked up from Midway Comics (Headband guy) in Chicago.
  3. I just picked these three up from CGC today.
  4. Two possible explanations; It's a mistake, and should be in a GLOD; or a Blue label was requested by the submitter, and the grade was knocked down accordingly for the flaw. I didn't realize the submitter had an option; I thought if a book is signed--not under the umbrella of the Signature Series--that it automatically received the green label. It's one of those "off the menu" thingies. At least, it was at one point. I don't know if it's still kosher or not, but I have heard of people requesting a Blue label when there was a defect - such as a popped staple - on an otherwise HG book that would normally go into a Green Label slab  Yep, when I submit something I think may get a qualified label, such as a signature or something loose, I always ask for Universal labels and lower grades rather than qualified labels and higher grades.
  5. If I may ask, what did you have these graded at? Looks like they were all easily well over the $100 threshold for the value tier. BTW sweet books!! I didn't worry too much about whether the books at my assigned grades were valued at close to $100 or a bit over. I also didn't worry too much about whether I thought a book was a 9.2 or a 9.4, or another was a 9.0 or a 9.2 - my grade matches the one from CGC only a fraction of the time anyway. Indeed, an old CGC grade matches a new CGC grade only a fraction of the time (although usually at a higher rate than with this sub). It's easier to let the grades fall where they may, and let CGC charge me accordingly. Looks like McMiles did the same with his recent value tier sub as well, which had a slew of books valued at way over $100. The one that was bumped all the way from Value to Standard tier is the TOS64. I cracked this years ago out of an old blue label 9.2 ow. The rest of the bumps were up to Economy. I don't really concern myself with the grades or value either. For me, the time isn't usually a big deal, so I don't mind waiting and paying more after the fact if a book gets bumped to the next teir rather than paying to submit books in standard or economy and end up paying more than I needed to. If a book does come back with better grade an consequently should have been submitted in a higher teir based on the value, CGC will call and tell you that you owe them more money. So I don't think they care tha much either, since they are still getting right amount of money and actually have more time to get the book completed. Now, If you sent in 30 ASM #14s in VF, I would expect you will get a call before they actually graded them.
  6. Yes it is, I was surprised it got the 9.2 becase of the light foxing type discoloration.
  7. You know, it not always ego, and you shouldn't always walk away. Some people and businesses need to know that customers aren't going to be walked all over. They need to know that, not only do they not get to keep the customers' money, but also that it's not going to be worth their time to screw over their customers. Since I started my business, I can not tell you the kind of cr@p I've had to call some companies on: invoiced sales tax on out of state orders, added charges for services not rendered or quoted, defective merchandise, fake shipping charges, fake storage charges--the list is endless. You don't call people on this kind of stuff, they keep trying to pull the same garbage. It's not always about the 100 bucks, but often about making people do what's right. I hear ya! That is why I said some things just aren't worth it. I have to deal with similar issues on a daily basis as well in my business, and you are right if you let it go, it will just keep happening if not get worse. That's why early on in this thread, I said it was more about the principle rather than the $100. I was sort of talking about walking away rather than letting it get to the point of wanting to punching someone in the flippin' nose. Even then, it might feel a lot better to let loose with a nice haymaker.
  8. I agree. It would be a waste of time, money and effort to pursue this beyond the e-mails and posting where others can learn from it and use discretion about who and how to deal with. I am one of those people that has a hard time letting things go because of ego, and it is hard to walk away from someone that has wronged you, but ultimately some things just aren't worth it. The thing to do is to take pride in the fact that you are a better person.
  9. Recent results of a 40 book value submission. Only one book graded less than I expected, so no turds in that respect, but I did get one big purple turd. 10. I trade books( junk) to Lone Star frequently, and these are some facts: You can select trade or cash and cash is usually 50% of the trade value. The grading is usually pretty bad. If not really bad. Buddy will ban you for returning books. I don't think this is always a problem. I get the feeling it is only if Buddy is involved, I don't think he likes being told that he can't grade. I think it was SilverandBronze that posted a couple of years ago about some Archies he returned and was consequently banned. He would have to varify that though as I'm going by memory about who it was. I wish people would quit saying "It's only $100 dollars" To some people that is a hell of a lot of money, and it is about the GD principle anyway. The buyer should be allowed to fullfill the trade value in trade since that is what the original agreement was. If Buddy wants out of the agreement, he should buy out at 100% cash.
  11. Very nice. That Science Comics is a nice one to own.
  12. Thanks guys. GIC has always been my favorite Big Five title.
  13. Not those incredible grey tones Andy posted but here are a few that aren't to shabby.
  14. I used my 10% off ebay/paypal code on this one last week. It was packed like but arrived safely.
  15. Anyone ever done a study or comparison of Direct Sale (Whitman) Marvels versus the regular versions. I'm curious as to how the numbers compare and if the numbers are low for Higher grades. A couple of years ago it took me about 200 ebay listings to track down a 9.0/9.2 X-men #118. I just did a quick look through current listings and completed listings of ASM #172 because I have a certain interest in that book right now. Out of 75 current and completed listings over the last 30 days, only 2 out of 75 were Whitman variants. The grades of those two were 3.0 and 5.5. I would imagine that 9.6 and 9.8 copies of these would be pretty hard to come by. Has anyone else ever studied these at all or have an opinion on them?
  16. Rick, it's a good thing you are a likeable guy, or it would be very easy to hate you. with envy.
  17. The TTA has a 3/4" corner crease on the lower right fc.
  18. Here's one I picked up at the NYCC, and have just now had a chance to scan. It's a double cover too!
