  1. 5.5 between the BC small water stains & FC creases. The staining is much less severe than a 5.5 I have & the creasing puts it in the 5ish bin as well.
  2. I don't think the C/P helps the grade here, I do think it will make the book look nicer. 5.0/5.5. Too many color breaking creases to see it going any higher
  3. I'm going 6.0. I think the CGC grader will be kind to a FF this early that has such a nice looking front cover. A grade or so lower if it was a newer or less significant comic.
  4. 5.0/5.5 Coming in a little higher b/c the binding type is partially responsible for some of the defects
  5. 4.0 here too. I want to go 4.5, but the edges, even if it's Marvel chipping, hurt the aesthetics just enough that it's hard to be forgiving of the other defects.
  6. 2.5. I bumped it since I had to look at the enlargements to really notice the extent of the staining and creasing.
  7. 9.2/9.4 just some bindery tears will keep it slightly down
  8. 7.5 for cumulative creasing, mostly along the spine. The defects along the spine on the back aren't particularly noticeable without the enlargements, but I think that drags it down.
  9. The heavy tanning, creasing and edge defects drop this below where a qualified label is necessary. That much is correct. According to the CGC Guide, a missing non-story coupon or panel results in the following grades 6.0 (1"×1") to 0.5 (6"×6"). Eyeballing it, this looks about 4"×2", so closer to area to the upper than the lower end. With this in mind, I don't think the missing coupon "counts". IMO this would grade around 3.0 without the clipping, so it should stay around that number.
  10. I agree with around 3.5. I don't think I see a 4.0, but maybe b/c the most severe damage is on the BC and the front looks quite decent for a low grade book.
  11. I haven't seen a Qualified square bound book for a spine split. I have one with a split of similar length graded at 4.5. I think you'd land at 4.5/5.0. Unfortunately, I don't think this is a good grading candidate since it's not buoyed by being a key issue
  12. I believe this is one of the full-sized CRs instead of the ½-size ones made folding 8½"×11" paper. I've got a couple of those, and the production quality is pretty low. It's not 100% clear to me yet how their standards are different with these yet, but they clear are based on the CGC'd ones I have, and I've seen for sale. I think 7.5/8.0 between the corners and the small crease on the BC. I have a suspicion that the corner damage might be akin to bindery tears in regular comics & therefore not penalized as heavily. Love the art on a lot of these old fanzines.
  13. I concur with ≥9.0 with a absolute max outside shot at 9.6. It's just hard to split hairs with the NM grades with photos
  14. I have/had an 8.0 in a slab. It's head to a Steranko signing. I don't think this copy looks any better or worse than mine (albeit I didn't see it out of the slab). Anecdotally, some of these more uncommonly submitted books seem to get a lighter touch. I think b/c the graders see so many copies of the same books, getting a different one puts them in a better mood. Great book to have as Steranko's first professional work.
  15. 7.0/7.5 seems about right. I've had some of these white books come back a little lower, I think b/c the discoloration defects aren't hidden at all. My copy of this is also discolored around the edges, more like tanning whereas yours is foxing. Hard book to obtain in pristine condition I think
  16. I had a comic pressed that had similar indentions. Got it up to 8.5. Thought it looked at least a 9.0 b/c you can't really see the spots anymore I'd guess you can expect the same. Maybe 9.0 on a good day.
  17. It is incorrect to say that staple impressions have no effect on the grade. With a square bound book, it is taken into account that the binding creates the defect, so it is not penalized nearly as much as the same thing on a standard binding. These impressions seem mild, and I don't see any ink loss, which sometimes happens when these raised areas rub against other surfaces. In this case, it looks like there's an actual hole/tear in the binding unrelated to the staples. It looks to me like all the paper is still present? If so, 8.5/9.0
  18. very dependent on what those dark spots are on the back. If it's staining, I'd say maxes out around 7.0 b/c CGC does not forgive staining. If it's foxing, a grade or so higher. IDK what it is, doesn't exactly look like foxing, but I don't have enough experience looking at differently foxed books.
  19. 7.5/8.0. If it was an older SA or GA book, I think it could go up a grade, but I think it takes a little bigger hit here. Of course, being a foreign edition
  20. 9.0 max I think. I was higher until I took a 2nd look at the back. I think there are enough color breaking tics to exceed CGC's lighter treatment of these in recent times
  21. 9.2 or better with pressing. Square bounds can get a little bit of an allowance for various defects b/c of how they're constructed.
