  1. Nice!! Do we have any idea of the number of these that exist? That’s the rarest version of that particular issue.
  2. I think the easiest way to tell if it’s a newsstand is the UPC barcode that would appear on the front cover of that particular issue. Lol. Now almost all books have barcodes. I have various methods for spotting them but a sure fire way and please correct me if I’m wrong but Newsstands will have a separate 2 digit number at the end and directs will have 5 at the end. In newsstands that signifies the month. In direct it’s generally issue number, printing number and cover.
  3. My most recent pickups. Better pics to follow if wanted. $7.24 Including Shipping.
  4. When I purchased mine from the newsstand a lifetime ago I recall them not having the coupons. This was confirmed by this. It states UPC Versions aka Newsstands didn’t come with the coupon.
  5. Pics aren’t great but there’s so many of them. I’ve always been s huge X-men Fan. I had a near complete run of the original series. Excluding 1-7, 12 and a bulk of the reprints it was complete. Sold off most of my collection years ago to buy a house. I dearly miss those books. Anyways nothing spectacular but difficult and fun to hunt down.
  6. Dies anyone know if the first Origin Series was available in newsstand? I’ve yet to find one.
  7. I think you need to rethink your storage method. Trapping the comic in a bag by itself isn’t ideal or a good idea for long term storage. You’re defeating half the purpose of having a halfback/fullback or comparable backing board in with the comic. It’s made to both absorb and offset the chemical processes that lead to the decay of books. Ideally you will also want microchamber paper as well. Theres a great thread on here titled Are Acid Free Backing Boards Acid Free Lets PH Test To Find Out. It’s an informative and entertaining read. There’s a lot of accurate info in there on storage written by people who know what they’re talking about.
  8. I was going through my boxes of newer stuff and here’s some more that I hadn’t gotten around to posting here.
  9. Thanks for the info. Pretty good solution to protecting the rest of the book.
  10. Yeah show some love for the image newsstand thread. It’s been slow over there. If I wasn’t so lazy I’d take pictures of all of them to post instead of the few I do post.
  11. Would eBay honestly hold it against you after showing as delivered? If so eBay has to work on these timeframes for items not received cases. Especially going to Hawaii can sometimes take forever.
  12. And just how careful are these people doing sketches that it warrants a 9.8? I mean a lot of it’s done at cons and I just am baffled that it would end up near perfect after all the different hands on it. Writing on the cover is always a flaw regardless of who’s doing the writing/drawing in my book. Though others will pay a premium I won’t and don’t actively seek out autographs.
  13. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t touched upon but with these boards you want to have the glossy side facing the comic and not the other way around, right? It may sound like a newbie question but on another forum comic storage was brought up and some people were storing their books with the non glossy side facing the comic which is the wrong way right? Another stores in Mylar with no backing board in the bag containing the book. It’s placed in another bag and the boards in there. So it’s a bagged comic inside another bag which has the board. That’s bad storage, no? It’s in a doubly enclosed space with nowhere for the acids to go or be absorbed. Just noticed it was my 69th post. I still have growing up to do.
  14. What would be fair is if CGC didn’t have a potential conflict of interest in their pricing. The higher it grades the more it’s worth the more you pay. I’m not saying that they do this but why even have the temptation or appearance of it?! Charge a flat fee regardless of value.
  15. Am I missing something? There’s only one other completed sale on eBay for that particular issue which went for only $10. It wasn’t listed as a newsstand and was part of a lot. So only 2 sales of that particular book in newsstand in the biggest marketplace online. All it takes is two people wanting a book for the price to go up.
  16. This also shows different fan letters and the issues they were in. http://zak-site.com/Great-American-Novel/ff_letters.html
  17. Dave Micheline has a few letters published as well if I recall correctly. Went on to write several comics. Not sure what comics though. Added the two HOM’s that McFarlane had published letters in to my want list. I mean it’s pretty apparent he was heavily influenced by Kaluta.
  18. I may be a grump but I really try my best to be fair and open minded.
  19. I honestly don’t recall why I found customer service rude specifically. I just remember that being my overall impression. I thinks it’s cool that MCS responded and addressed all the problems I had all those years ago. It sounds like improvements have been made and perhaps I can start ordering again. It’s always nice to have another option for books. Obviously I’m in the minority with my previous bad experiences.
  20. Yes it was through the MyComicShop.com website directly. It’s been around a decade since I ordered from them. I don’t doubt others great experiences but my experiences weren’t.
  21. My experience with them is completely different. It’s been years since I’ve ordered from them though. It’s been years because not only were most of my packages damaged from their Saran Wrap from Hell, the ones that weren’t damaged from their packaging method were very clearly over graded. Near Mint Books shouldn’t have any creases let alone color breaking creases. I contacted them via email and was told rudely to return the books for a refund & I had to cover the return shipping. Not saying every single order was over graded or damaged due to their packaging but I’d say 60-70% were. It was the rude service I got that sealed the deal though. I switched to Midtown who have had some issue with the same things. Obviously not the Saran Wrap but not packaged the best and some over graded stuff as well. What sealed the deal with Midtown is they not only adjusted there packaging but also were always pleasant when communicating any issues with them. They also never ever made me ship a book back if it was their fault. Just sent me a new copy or refunded me. Honestly I’m very very picky with my comics. If it’s not as described/pictured or was packaged poorly and damaged I’m going to complain and return said items on the sellers dime.
  22. I know an easy way to clear up all the confusion. The first thing would be for CGC to list detailed grading definitions. Instead of the, “if it has one small defect it’ll Grade this or 2 small defects and it’ll grade that”. Give detailed grading definitions and stick to those. Overstreets been around forever and have long established, and in detail the industry standards. It baffles me that CGC doesn’t give detailed grading definitions. Unless I’ve overlooked that information. The second thing CGC could do to end confusion and be accurate would be to get rid of Qualified Green Labels and grade the book for what it actually is. Not what it would be if it didn’t have a major defect like missing pieces or pages. I strongly believe that following long established industry grading definitions is the only way to do it. An incomplete book is always a low grade regardless of what the rest of the book looks like in my eyes. Also this “relaxing” of grading definitions on older books is bs. Grading Definitions should be applied uniformly no matter the age of the book. I saw a 9.8 on ebay that had off white to white pages. How’s that possible?
