  1. received back my JRJR and JSC submissions over the last 2 days

    mixed feelings

let's start with ASM 238 signed by JRJR

biggest disappointment here falls back to a brain fart on my part .... I knew the book I was submitting did not have the Lakeside Tattooz insert ... yet the primary reason I wanted to submit the book was to get the book slabbed with the custom Hobgoblin label before it was retired by CGC .... I knew I was going to get a green/yellow qualified label but it never hit me that because there was that small strip of green on the label there is no custom label in these circumstances ... lesson learned

the sig was done where I indicated I wanted it and am happy it is done bold ... yes I know it is just his initials but that was all I was expecting

    onto the JSC book

not much to say, sig is where I asked for it .... only regret is maybe I should have specified a color (silver) ... while I appreciate that the wallcrawler's primary color (red) was used it kind of gets lost in the dark a bit ... I also saw some in orange that he did, that while seemed like an odd color choice, popped

new Black Cat custom label would have been nice but clearly it was just made available now not back when I submitted ... still don't know why they haven't fixed the hologram placement covering up a good portion of the art

both books were pressed by CCS though I am about to abandon that pretty soon as I honestly have seen no indication on any recent submission using their services that their "trade secret process" has done anything to improve even the most basic fixable flaws an amateur presser could fix

lastly, both books are able to shake a bit in the slab ... give neither came back with Newton rings I am going to say CGC has likely done something recently to keep the plastics more separated

    onto the books ......

  2. Hi CGC

I assume this error in expectation is somewhat on me .....

I submitted an Amazing Spider-man 238 that did not have the Tattooz insert included for the John Romita Jr in house private signing

The primary reason I submitted this book was to get this book slabbed with the Hobgoblin custom label before it was retired

I just received my submission back today and it came with a green/yellow qualified label which was not the custom label

would it be fair to say that qualified books yellow or otherwise are not able to receive a custom label in any way?

I guess I could have indicated with my submission to have this graded as a defect at a lower grade in order to get the non qualified and custom yellow label, yes?

thanks in advance for any feedback and maybe this can help others in the future

    JRJR book shipped

JSC book G/QC ... of course the day CGC announces a Black Cat custom label

JSC book shipped today, 1 day after the JRJR book

unfortunate these couldn’t have been consolidated to save on return shipping

would have had to request that when submitting but that would have required holding until the McFarlane book was signed as well

my books show a received 11/22/22 and i shpped them out to cgc on 11/7/22, does anyone when the next signing for McFarlane is? it looks like they are getting him to sign in batches.

the people receiving them already are books that CGC brought with to New York Comicon where Todd signed some …. the remaining will be signed sometime this month when Todd travels to CGC in FL to sign in house …. this will take p,ace over multiple days and possibly (though not probable) multiple visits depending on what the submission volume was

  5. other than the slight damage to a case from 2013 what possible reason(s) in your mind would there be for this slab to have been cracked open and replaced by either the same or different X101 book signed by both Lee and Claremont??

seems like the most probable answer is general wear and tear to the slab from handling over time or damage from shipping

seems like you have a line of communication with the seller so I would just flat out ask if he/she were aware of the damage, if they were the original owner and knew how it came to be, or if it wasn’t there prior to them shipping to you (if that is how the transaction took place)

Yes, Fedex will leave you a note just like UPS.  They will attempt to deliver it the next business day.  So unless you are not home 3 days in a row you should be able wait for the package and have it delivered.

or they will just leave the book at your front door while you are out of town and will sign for you

yep, that happened to me recently

I've been wondering about the Palmiotti and Conner signing as well.  I submitted my books in September I believe, and books that I submitted after that for other artists have been signed, graded, and returned.  No movement or signs of activity on social media from CGC for Conner.

books for the Romita Jr, Hanna, Wells signing were noted as due to CGG on 9/16 same date as Palmiotti and Connor and that in house private signing hasn't occurred yet

    I wouldn't sweat it

I suppose it's possible that comics could be pressed carefully without causing additional damage, but CCS certainly isn't the place to do it. It's all about the throughput there. Care for the comic books doesn't seem to be a consideration.

How do you press a comic?

We get asked this quite often, but our process is a trade secret. It’s a process we have spent thousands of hours developing through research, testing, and pressing hundreds of thousands of comics.

Regarding the hologram covering the custom label for the McFarlane SS books:

CGC got on this immediately. We have requested new labels be printed and rushed. We are hoping to have labels within a week, although Thanksgiving may affect this. All in-house books that have not been sent out are being held for the new labels. If a customer already received a book with the hologram covering the label, the best course of action is to reach out to the Sig Team and they will happily send Mechanical Error instructions so this can be fixed. This issue is only happening on the McFarlane scroll label, the Spawn label is good to go.

thanks for the update and your efforts @CGC Mike

    this is good news

Happy to see some of these coming back already. However, I'm a little disappointed that the CGC hologram is covering part of the custom label. :frustrated:

just when I though CGC couldn't be any more incompetent they prove me wrong

funny how they get it correct in their marketing materials but can't get it right on the final product

they might as well have just put the hologram over the "odd" in his name on the label to double Tbag us

This is slow going, my first submission I sent right after the announcement and it moved SFG quite quickly after his NYCC signing so I would imagine it was signed there....no movement since.

did it have CCS pressing services?
If not I wouldn’t put too much stock into the SFG status as that would be the first status listed when received
