  1. It would have been great to have two covers in the run with the MARVEL COMICS logo. Goodman believed in the Angel so much to scratch the first Subby cover and opted for the Angel.
  2. He was approached by the consignor at Motor City con last year and they hit it off. Apparently, only the Bat 1 and Supe 1 went to HA.
  3. No because all the Larsons had “Larson” or “Lamont” in cursive written by two store clerks. Some Larsons have unfortunately been cleaned losing the name. The Bat 1 Larson has the full Larson name on it.
  4. Can’t think of anyone else who’s more nuts for that book 🤓🤔🤩
  5. …as well as the back half of ‘22. Although, Timelys are still strong 💪🏽
  6. The off register color kept it down slightly. True test would be if it was an OCT copy with decent registration and unrestored. Bat 1 keeps on truckin along👍🏽
  7. If you are into paper resources, the Gerber Photo journals have been a long time resource to study tons of golden age covers listed A-Z in two big, glossy paged, color volumes
  8. Yep, and I believe only the 7.0 Supe 1 and the 8.0 Bat 1 have that custom label. A majority (if not all) of the raw, lesser books were/are being consigned with another party.
  9. Cap 3 released on 03-17-41. Here is a side by side shot of the two copies I’ve owned. The 4.0 (on the left) had an April 1 arrival date at the top. It’s now in a 4.5 signature series (Stan Lee) cgc slab. I won it raw off eBay in 2000 from the Dentist 🦷, Dave Anderson, for a mere $2,715.00. I foolishly sold it off in 2004 to help fund high grade early FFs 😫 I learned within a year never to do such a thing again 🫣 The 3.0 copy (on the right) is my current copy that I purchased from @G.A.tor at 2016 SDCC. The 3.0 looks somewhat similar to the 4.0 at first glance. I did not plan on taking 16 years to get a copy back, but sometimes that’s how the hobby goes 🤷🏽‍♂️ 🫠 Goodman had Simon change to a round shield in issue 2 to avoid potential legality problems with MLJ’s character, the Shield, who had a triangular shield. Simon, promptly had Cap throw the circular disc in issue 3 to prove that it was better off round than triangular (all this is old news 📰 of course!)
  10. Love the sidebar on the 10❣️ The 10 was the first Timely that was ever offered to me circa 1995 - it was a low grade, missing the CFO, and asking price was $400. I did not buy it, because I did not know what the cover looked like at the time, so the seller advised me to pick up the Gerber Photo-journals. I did so and was instantly hooked on Timelys🤓😆
  11. 5.0 That looks like a legit Kirby sig. Love the New Year's Eve (12/31) arrival date on the front cover.
  12. Agreed. AF15 seems to be a tougher book to get CGC "designated" WHITE pages. Silver age DCs are also challenge to garner CGC WHITE pages.
  13. Tough to get a "full" bullet along the right edge of the cover. Often it's miscut as they are in both of these examples.
  14. Feb 1980 - FF 218 was the first Marvel I can recall selecting off the spinner rack at my local 7-Eleven. This is my original copy which, oddly, is a direct copy. I did buy it at 7-Eleven which means it should have been a newsstand copy with a barcode. I asked Steve Geppi for his explanation since the direct market was introduced in 1979 and he said it was still possible back then for retailers to buy direct (larger discount but no returns) or newsstand (some discount but able to return top 1/3 of cover for a credit on the next order). The FF218 could also have been left over unsold stock from another 7-Eleven or retailer that was resold to the new retailer. I can recall being attracted to Spidey and the busy cover that determined my selection. I also had the opportunity to purchase one of the best OA pages from this book a few years ago. I love the Sandman/Electro last panel with interior pencils by John Byrne and inks by Joe Sinnott.
