  1. I would take the Tec #27 and ASM #1 over the Cap #1. If we were talking simply collector's enjoyment, I'd take just the Tec #27 over the Cap #1 (importance > grade). Batman and Spiderman are arguably the Top-2 superheroes in the world today. Cap, though iconic in his own right, is not even close. Couldn't agree more (thumbs u I agree and I'd take the tec27/asm1 over the cap 1 as well. However, I think the folks that took the Cap 1 did so mainly because they like the higher grade or despised the tape on the tec27....
  2. the Tec and ASM for me---I value those books and characters higher than Cap.
  3. one gator for sure (shariff floyd, likely top 5)...possibly matt elam in first round or early second... gators have 6-10 nfl prospects this year ... Luke J seems to be most folks #1 yup my dad is hoping his Raiders select Floyd at 3 if they stay put
  4. Gator- Who will be the first five picks in today's NFL Draft? How many Gators will go in the first round?
  5. I could really only speak for folks that have bought from me...a company like metro, clink, heritage could give a better ball park.... I would guess the number of folks that spend 5 figs on a comic number in the hundreds, maybe even low thousands... Thanks for the reply. That's an estimate that would be favorable for this end of the hobby going forward. Provided these collectors are mostly younger than I am! supe and bat are iconic characters that have did well in Hollywood (I think the new supe will be good), so that has certainly helped bring new GA collectors in the mix. And Cap has been relatively successful too boosting marvels as the dominant realm where most new collectors live in.
  6. I like bargains. I'm looking forward to buying Adventure 40, Marvel 1, All American 16 and More Fun again over be next couple of years. I'll enjoy owning them more with a smaller amount of money invested in them Not all Marvel 1s are selling for low prices I sold mine in 2013 for substantially higher than I paid for it (Buyer asked me not to disclose price - sorry). your books are the exception George
  7. I like bargains. I'm looking forward to buying Adventure 40, Marvel 1, All American 16 and More Fun again over be next couple of years. I'll enjoy owning them more with a smaller amount of money invested in them but you love the comic more than the profit potential (a good thing mind you) There are many books one can buy today that will have potential profit and there are many books one can buy today that we should just for the love of collecting comics. Unfortunately when dealing with 4 and 5 fig valued comics no matter how much we love owning the comic there is a value side added variable to the equation. So understanding the market and market indicators will help us make wise purchasing choices relative to both the enjoyment (intangible) and the value (tangibly measured ) factors! I can relate to this one. Something is up when you can easily buy back a book in equal or lesser grade much cheaper than what you sold it for. Case in point Marvel Mystery 9---my all time non Cap Timely but I could no longer keep at the cost I had into it...so, I took a loss, rolled that loss into a more solid book, and hope to come out ok. And it is good to know a mm9 can be reaquired several thousands of dollars cheaper than before
  8. I like bargains. I'm looking forward to buying Adventure 40, Marvel 1, All American 16 and More Fun again over be next couple of years. I'll enjoy owning them more with a smaller amount of money invested in them yup exactly bill. Take advantage of cheaper prices. Heck, I may even buy an AA16 at those prices. Still a rare book not seen as much, and I've never owned one.
  9. Problem I have with some of these Golden Age comics DC in particular like All American Comics 16 even though it is the origin of Green Lantern its not the Green Lantern the majority of us grown up with. I would take a Showcase 22 over an AAC16 any day for that reason Hal Jordan's first appearance means more to me and alot of the younger crowd would agree. Which is why Supes, Bat, Caps comics have kept their value it has been for the most part the same character for years playing them. Outside of those three even Wonder Woman has taken a hit some from the Golden Age. very good point. Whatever we can relate to gets our vote. Just depends how hardcore a GA collector one is. Most of us GAers can't relate to the 1940 GL anyways...super friends in the 1970s did it for me and exactly why 60s marvel characters resinate today in Hollywood and today's crowd (old and young)---haven't changed much in 50 years.
  10. This thread has officially been resurected good stuff And yah, AA16 is still a cool book and character (GL) but the Internet and Hollywood has made the three big GA heroes (Supe, Bat, Cap) as the standout characters. New collectors are helping to drive the market of all supe-bat-cap keys and related titles. Old school collectors (I'm in the middle) are left holding the bag and wondering why Ad 40s, AA16, MF52, and Marvel 1/9 are hitting all time FMV lows. Flip side, these keys will be had for bargain prices today and foreseeable future...marvel mystery 9 is at $1700-$1800 a point low grade---I would never thought so as its been a big ticket, mutiple guide/high demand book for years.
  11. I might even trade out All American #16 for Detective Comics #29. they seem to be pretty close in value. AA16 might still be ahead by a hair. Tec 29s are going $5000-$7000 a point low grade per the last three CGC sales I know of.
  12. and we also know good eye appeal would push those prices a bit more. Especially since some are now frowning upon adding 2013 tape to a 70 year old book and getting a bump.
  13. preferably ones that fit! I have Nike and reebok ... There is no right shoe , just whatever one personally prefers Jordan 3s and 11s for me comfort and support are they key Asics for me. I always think of wrestling or running shoes with that brand.
  14. preferably ones that fit! I have Nike and reebok ... There is no right shoe , just whatever one personally prefers Jordan 3s and 11s for me I see your 3's and 11's and add in some 5's and 8's. (thumbs u yah those are nice kicks too..never owned those before...love your sig line
  15. I respect your opinion big-time Rick, I wouldn't have first asked you the question if I didn't. My point in this case is that since AA #16 is so rare when it comes to CGC slabbed universal examples, it doesn't have the same opportunity to set precedents sales-wise. Years can go by before a copy in the same grade re-sells or sells again, where as Batman #1 can be found in many major auctions. The 1.0 copy w/BRITTLE pages was the last public sale of a complete Universal copy and it sold strong at $11,250. What is GPA for Batman #1 Universal w/BRITTLE pages? although not nearly as rare as AA16, demand and popularity for Bat 1s has been higher at least in the last 10 years or so I believe. AA16 has been a high value key for years, but I can certainly see it being passed by Bat 1 and Cap 1s in the future. I believe a 2.0 brittle Bat 1 sold last Fall for $19k? Somebody confirm that...

  17. quite possible. A 1.5 Archie 1 just sold on HA for $10k+. Are low grade AA16s hitting $7k+ a point these days?
  18. Here's Ricks completed list...all in one listing notice 60% of the list has batman or supe in it 1) action 1 2) detective 27 3) superman 1 4) batman 1 5) captain America 1 6) pep 22 7) action 7 8) detective 31 9) marvel 1 10) all American 16 I will guess ricks back end 11-20 will include (not in value order): -action 10 -action 13 -Tec 29 -Tec 33 -Tec 35 -Archie 1 -all star 8 -more fun 52 -adventure 40 -marvel mystery 9
  19. +1. Will you be cracking out that AMF you just won? Thats the plan, although consider how long it took RHG to put his run together of Tec, I may lose interest in stringing the Church Centaurs together for certain, chunks of a title, and just sell tham, and than I have to re slab.... Oh the indecison, don't know what to do, plus did you decide on a "mylar/board" procedure?
  20. or better yet, what if the bat first origin was in 29 or 31?
  21. Well that makes sense when you mention it, I just remember when I was collecting in my younger days in the 90's it seemed like #33 was the book to have after #27. yah i remember when the 33 was more sought after...imagine if Supes origin was first told in Action 10 or 13...?
  22. I'd probably pay that for a cover too, since that's really the main selling point of that specific issue. I'm really surprised though how #33 is dropping off the radar now with all the attention on #29's, #31's, and #35's. 33 takes the back seat all the time. The origin just doesn't satisfy many unless you are a Batman completist. CGC has driven many to a "cover only" collecting spree--thus the 29-31-35 get all the glory. Even the 27 is a middle ground cover but its Bats first appearance so it gets a pass. I still think the 31 is the best cover. 29 second. 35 third (has the best splash page though). Respect to Ponsetti though who I know loves the 33 the full wingspan and pistol holster is still very cool. I predict the 33 will catch wind and make a rebound but I don't think it will ever pass FMV of the 29 or 31 again.
  23. nice. That Chicago stamped raw copy was from quality comix right?
  24. Nice church book neighbor. I'm so glad I don't collect centaur gems
