  1. Just imagine if he put the effort that board members are using to give him advice - he really would have a million $ book by now.
  2. This thing is coming back from the dead??
  3. Wizard World and Baltimore back to back weeks - they trying to kill us? People's livers can only handle so much!
  4. Still holding onto my CGC 9.4 to see how this all plays out. I think it would make a great movie especially for the teen audience.
  5. I would think it's because he gets dealer badges at the cons . Greggy seems to have a great eye and has a lot of long term friendships with a ton of the dealers so he gets a lot of first looks even without a badge.
  6. If you've applied for this, purely to get deals on comics (how stupid of me .. of course that's why) .. what happens when you go over the credit limit? If you go crazy .. expect a knock on the door from people who will want to claim that money back. Your prized, high-item books .. $5 each .. that's probably what value they'll put on each one to get their money back .. a comic book is a comic book to anyone who doesn't know the different values, right? Your stock AND personal comics will be WIPED OUT! Let's face it, you've made less money on comics than you've laid-out. You have a minimal wage job to support your lifestyle .. adding a card to the mix is potentially (no real potentially about it) dangerous and irresponsible if you have issues with money and not budgeting etc .. this is not a good move for you. Agree times infinity. This is trouble waiting to happen. What is the interest rate on the card you were approved for? Credit cards are not backed by physical equity. If he defaults on the credit card loan they will harass him via phone calls and mail but I do not believe they can do anything other then kill his credit score. Rack up a killer amount of debt and then go bankrupt - American dream (I know he is in Canada).
  7. The fact that people are still seeing it three weeks later and reporting they liked it is worth more then any final ticket numbers.
  8. This still isn't clear in my mind. You and your "friend" went in on a $1200 book together. You put up $500, he put up $700. At one point you said something about "unfriending"...is this a real friend; someone you know personally? Or is this someone you know through facebook comic chats? How well do you know this guy? Back to the deal, the book was shipped to you but it took a long time for you to receive it because UPS was "playing games" with you. You receive the book in-hand and now your friend decides he wants to be the sole owner of the book? To do this, he should be giving you $500 just for you to not take a loss. Realistically, you should be given a finder's fee if this is a client...something on the order of 10%. But you say he gave you $700. Is this on top of the $500 he needed to give you to buy you out of your ownership of the book? Or was it $500 to buy you out plus a $200 finder's fee? You say you "sold" it for $1,900...so it sounds like he bought you out for $500 and then gave you a $700 finder's fee. $500 (your initial investment) + $700 (friend's initial investment) + $700 (finder's fee) = $1900? Is this how it went down? Gabe, please answer the following questions and then go from there... How much did the book cost? How much did YOU pay for the book? As in money out of your own pocket? How much did your "FRIEND" pay for the book? Who sent the money to the original seller and how was it paid for? Thanks. From what I have read let me guess as to the answers - and also test my Gabe comprehension skills. Gabe found and bought a BB 28 CGC 2.5 (which has a GPA price of $1,900) for a crazy low $1,200. He was going to split the cost of the book with a buddy (since I assume he didn't have the cash because who would not grab a $1,900 book for $1,200 by yourself). The next part is a bit murky but I think the buddy decided he wanted the book so he paid Gabe $1,400 for the book (initial $700 to buy the book and an extra $700 to get the book. So Gabe spent $500 to buy the book (since his buddy paid for the other $700) and now has $200 in profits since now he has $700 in his account (but paid $500 to buy the book). If that is the case its not too shabby a deal for everyone involved. Buddy makes $300 when he sells it for $1,900 (minus fees) and Gabe gets the $200.
  9. Nice! Finally a week I don't have stuff going on with my daughter and can make it.
  10. My wife started it last night and is already thru 4 episodes. She seems to be enjoying it as much as I did.
  11. You guys have to shut up - you have me considering rewatching it and I just don't have the time right now.
  12. Very cool background story. I can only guess there was a woman involved to make you move to Ireland from the States with no job.
  13. Way too much buzz being generated for this movie to not have a sequel (or at least a couple spin offs). The movie got trashed by critics and it still pulled in good numbers. I saw it - I liked it for what it was.
  14. $700MM w/in reach I'd consider 500 mil a success for that movie
  15. You could put "complete carp that no one would ever want" and tons of people would look to see if you missed a hot book. Remember - the sharks are ALWAYS circling.
  16. To be clear I have a job but my hours have been cut so I won't be working there much longer. I never checked how long I search for deals but at least 10 hours a week. Also, I'm not sure if you look at it this way, but there is an old saying, time is money. Even at minimum wage, those 10 hours per week, spent looking for deals "cost you" about $450 per month. $11.25 minimum wage in Ontario x 10 hours per week x 4 (roughly) weeks in a month That equation only works if you are passing up making money by spending time online. He is missing out on time spent researching job boards, thinking about ways to make money doing stuff he likes (spending time on the computer) that doesn't involve risks.
  17. What happened to this thread? Seems like forever since someone posted up a modern book selling on E-Bay.
  18. I agree the timing isn't the best and I still have many things to work on but I need to find a way to have more then one stream of income because as soon as I leave a job that money dries up quickly, I still need to sell the comics I have left and I told my dad that I wanted to take voice acting classes for about two years and he said it's a stupid idea because there's no guarantee I'd make my money back just like I messed up with college while if I was doing something with the money and invested it I would have more. I'm just confused that every person is giving me different answers I'm not sure what to do...but I do know I need to brush up and my basic skills. Who is giving you different answers? I'd say 95% of people on this thread have gotten to the point where they are saying give up on flipping comic books and concentrate on finding a full time job. Deliver papers in the morning - go wash dishes during a lunch shift at Fridays - do some data inputting for a temp place at nights - mow lawns in your neighborhood - the list of possible jobs in your area has got to be crazy long if you send all your time looking for ways to make money without flipping comics. Flipping books can be lucrative but also involves a fair amount of risk and times when you will not make any money. Risks and lack of money are things at this time are not a luxury you can afford. If your Dad thinks voice work may not be your thing then ask him to help you find a job and maybe the two of you can get you moving forward.
  19. Yep - doesn't get much better the Mycomicshop in terms of customer satisfaction and inventory.
  20. Joker is by far the worse part of the Suicide Squad. Was not blown away by Boomerang but the Joker was just plain dumb. Not sure if even Harley can save that movie if they get one.
  21. Just saw a sold out 8:00 showing - solid movie that I can see doing well. Definitely a bunch of heart felt moments and my family loved it. Definitely not in Guardians of the Galaxy realm but a good movie. Wife and daughter loved Harley and of course Will Smith was fantastic. Little weak in the plot department but way better the the Rotten Tomatoe rating.
