  1. This theory makes sense to me. I'd bet this is the case. Until, as mentioned, it's proven wrong
  2. @aardvark88Thanks for sharing that YouTube link. That was a pretty good discussion around the crossover we're seeing.
  3. Yes, I agree with all of this, honestly. Including the parts where you say this current scenario may not fit the bill. We don't know what legwork was done beforehand, and to reach out for help for something rather esoteric as "Newton Rings" and get ridiculed for it is just too much and reeks of the online bullying and chest pounding that anonymous people on the internet love to do for amusement. To me, the original question wasn't like "Hey, what issues of Hulk did Byrne draw?" where you can literally type that exact thing into a Google search bar and get a correct answer.
  4. Says the guy who "joined 2 hours ago;" probably "quick draw's" dummy account. And we're seriously using "butthurt" and sarcastic laugh reacts on posts? Grow up.
  5. "Newton Rings" are a pretty bizarre thing, and honestly if I was first dealing with them, one place I would go is the newbie forum to seek advice - and not ridicule - from seasoned vets. Because that is what the newbie forum is for. You know, for asking a question a n00b might bring up. Your comments aren't friendly, welcoming, or helpful. Maybe if a question doesn't pass your "legitimacy" test, you can step aside and let members with some actual patience help a new person out.
  6. THIS. The 2nd edition is my absolute grading bible. I grade my books strictly by those standards and they match up pretty good with what CGC will give you; in fact, in my last batch of 7 silver age books sent, one came back exactly as I had predicted, and the other six returned 0.5 HIGHER than I had graded myself. Read that grading guide back-to-front, then back again. The picture examples given are extraordinarily helpful.
  7. So this is literally the newbie forum, and a newbie has a newbie question and gets mocked for not using a different resource than one specifically for newbie questions?
  8. Seriously. THIS. How on Earth do you miss the MJ insert?! Repeatedly??
  9. Absolutely insane. I can understand that higher grade is scarcer due to the black cover, but nearly $3k..! This is definitely a seller's market!
  10. I asked 2 local comic shops and both said they would have to order in group of 5. I would feel bad about them getting stuck with 4 unsold boxes for who knows how long
  11. There's probably a market for graded coverless EC horror books, I'd wager.
  12. I've been looking for a short box that fits slabbed magazines, and have had a heck of a time locating them online. Can anybody recommend a place to buy one of these (I don't need a case of them - just one! )
  13. Current turn around time for Express is 7 working days. My Express order # 3816093 was received on 4/1/21 and has not moved from "scheduled for grading" since (at the time they were marked "received," TAT was 10 days). My credit card was charged for the order yesterday, but the books are still marked as "scheduled for grading." I won't say I'm getting antsy about this, but I'm getting antsy Approximately when can I expect to know the results of the grading on my books?
  14. I just want to say this was all reassuring for me as well, as I recently received my first batch of CGC'd books ever, and one of them also had a "split" on the side that had me worried. I'm really glad this is normal! Thanks, everybody!

    Faulty Slabs

Thanks so much for that information! That's a HUGE relief. I was concerned my holder was faulty and that the recommended course of action would be a reholder.

    Faulty Slabs

One of my recent submissions also came back with the pressing/clicking issue. There is a slight split in the seal on the left side, maybe 2", where the slab did not completely seal. Is this common? I thought nothing of it at the time when I got it back about a month ago (or less?).
  17. I only recently, after 35+ years of collecting, started getting some books graded. When I made the decision to do so, it was a no-brainer to get my own account rather than submit through a third party for exactly the reasons you listed above, but mostly because I didn't want to have to worry about delays on the part of the third party rather than going direct.
  18. DD #16 is one of a handful I need to complete DD Vol. 1
  19. A seller can ask whatever they want; if that's not what you want to pay, then move on. I tend to check last sold prices on eBay for actual market value - that is, what things are actually selling for, not what people hope to get for them. "Superjumbo #1" might have 10 sellers trying to get $100 bucks for it, but if all the "last sold" listings are around $50, then it's not worth $100 (unless you are, in fact, willing to pay that). People can TRY to get $100 for it, but the market is saying the current going price is $50.
  20. I'm 47 years old and have been collecting since I was about 6 or 7, and saved nearly every book since then, and am still buying books today. I'm one of the lucky folks that did NOT have their parents toss their childhood collection! I'd say my comics clock in around 30,000+, ranging in era and genre. My collection is all over the place!
  21. I read in another thread that due to the unusual dimensions (it's a bit taller than a normal comic), The Last Ronin must be submitted as a Magazine.
