  1. Would you have to PROVE what you paid for it? Otherwise everybody that sold that $2,000 book would say they originally bought it for $1800, and only pay capital gains tax on $200. If I started selling my collection, I have no records of what I originally paid for anything.
  2. I have no idea about CCS, as I haven't used them. But yes, I'm sure CGC enjoys charging me an extra $5 for each tier they ship back! I just would rather send everything to them in one box, even if I have "mixed-tier" items, instead of sending several different boxes for each tier/invoice.
  3. Yes, they can - but they won't be sent back together, and the customer will be charged for separate shipping for each package. You can pretty much mix everything up on an invoice - I've sent magazines with several different tiers of comics all in one box, with one packing slip, and had no issues.
  4. Thanks for that. Very, very closely related: I have several issues of Swamp Thing Vol. 1 signed by Wrightson in ink at the bottom of the first page.
  5. Looking at the last pic, that doesn't look like the typical spine "tick," like the other pics may be. That looks like a full-on bend resulting in color-breaking crease, like you would get from spinner rack damage, as evidenced by the crow's feet shape. To me, that alone would disqualify it from being a 9.8, never mind the addition of the other "ticks." As for the dot, that looks like a typical printing hickey and CGC would not dock for that.

    Re-Holdering

I've read in the forums that cases not being completely sealed is normal. I mentioned that one of my magazines came back with space on the sides (you could slip a postcard through it), and the consensus was that it's not unusual. In fact, some said it's actually better, as it allows for air circulation which can slow aging of the book.
  7. I put moderns in modern size, silver (or larger/thicker moderns) in silver size, etc. I'd once heard a convincing argument that the extra space afforded by putting a modern in a silver-size bag/board is extra wiggle room for damage (from dropping, etc). However, I must say I like the look and feel of a "snug" book. My biggest motivation for how I do things, though, is that I'm poor and modern bags/boards are generally a few bucks cheaper than silver size. I have a large collection, and that savings adds up.
  8. I am pretty much in the same boat as you. My "want list" is winding down, I'm at the point where I'm pretty happy with my collection, and I feel I don't mind paying today's prices on some books knowing it may be the last book I need to complete a run. It's worth paying a premium for that satisfaction! I also need to get on board with selling undercopies. I literally have maybe a couple thousand "doubles" just sitting there after 35+ years of collecting. It's just such a hassle to post things for sale
  9. The middle three centerfolds completely detached, tape inside the cover, glue on the staple, and still a VG? Yeesh. I get that it presents well, but still. Aside from that, TWENTY PERCENT BUYER'S PREMIUM?!?! Forget it!!! Is that Heritage? I'm no high roller! hahahaha!
  10. Thanks for that Honestly, much appreciated Happy collecting! And don't stop trying to be helpful, especially to "newbies"!
  11. I would certainly hope that kind of severe defect would be noted, or shown in the pictures. I've been buying comics on eBay since, what, 1999? And haven't been "blocked" yet. Also haven't really felt the need to return anything probably ever (as far as comics are concerned). I can't help but feel you're being incredibly condescending to me, but OK.
  12. I guess I'm just an overly strict grader. Anybody wanna buy some raw books from me?
  13. Well, I would definitely consider the centerfold being ripped out and put back in loose a serious problem. Again, I've been basing my opinions all these years (35+) on Overstreet standards. And using that knowledge, if I bought a book that had spine creases and was graded at F/VF, with creases consistent for that grade, and brought it home to find the centerfold detached, I would be VERY upset.
  14. OMG those "Precious Moments" figurines! The mention of it always brings to mind the MST3K parody.
  15. I'm fairly certain that Overstreet states that a detached centerfold is only acceptable in "Good" (2.0, maybe 2.5) condition. CGC would grade it as high as F/VF? That's actually kind of shocking to me. I'm still getting used to the vast differences between Overstreet grading and CGC standards.
  16. Ah, yes, Charlton - the absolute zenith of comic book publishing quality!
  17. I got an order in a few months ago, and one of the magazine slabs is not completely sealed shut on the sides. You could slip a postcard through it, into the slab, if you wanted. I read on another thread that this is normal, and especially important for air circulation so that the book doesn't "stew in its own juices"..?
  18. I have my collection in my basement, elevated on pallets in case of any stray water mishaps (basement is not prone to flooding, but in extreme weather conditions, some water does leak in), about 1 foot away from the outside wall (which is mostly underground), with a dehumidifier.
