  1. Yikes Seeing this for the first time just now, I was going for a 3 at worst. Unless there is something major in the grading notes describing something we can't see on the cover, 1.5 is egregious.
  2. 2.0. I am no expert but doubt a press would help. Would be interested if an expert thinks otherwise.
  3. Yes, it would be a great looking 1.8/2,0 WRT the comment above about the sub crease giving it a 4.5, I thought the highest grade for a full length crease is 3.5...?
  4. Can I get this please? Edit: D'oh! Beaten by 3 mins. Dang these slow trans-Pacific electrons!
  5. I like that you have a little sticker on the slab with the titles and CGC grades in small print, just in case no-one can see the grades in big CGC numbers ;-)
  6. Interesting that he remembers that story but not the classic Neal Adams' story "One Hungers" in the same issue. That was probably the best story in the whole Marvel BA horror run.
  7. Agree with this. The issues in the 120's and early 130's (up to when they brought him back to earth) are the best in the series IMHO
  8. Agreed on that cover too... I am very familiar with it...!
  9. Thanks for posting both! I am trying to get a sense of grading above 9 so looked at the grader's notes for these two copies. The 9.2 copy has: light creasing to cover light spine stress lines to cover while the 9.4 book has: light spine stress lines to cover very small stain left center of back cover So it seems that "light creasing" lowers grade from 9.8 to 9.2 but they do not penalize small stains on BC at this level. Also the creases must be light because I can't see them in this image - how obvious were they to you?
  10. I would grade it higher than others. But I guess there is a reason I don't do so well in the grading competitions...
  11. Yes a grade better than the #24 in your other thread but there is no comparison in the quality of the cover art with that issue.
  12. Had to come back to the forum to look at some BWS art... Agree with the 8.0 rating: noted issue on LR corner and stress marks near staples. Also agree with @grendelbo that it's hands down one of the best Conan stories and IMHO one of the best drawn. (Red nails is hard to beat).
  13. Since this seems to be the same deal as in the thread you had a few days ago, maybe you should say what you are looking for in the traded book to save people's time in responding.
  14. Yikes I got a post deleted and a warning from the mods for pretty innocuous remarks about Australian politicians that the overwhelming majority of you would never have heard of. So I am surprised that attack is allowed to stand.
  15. As a kid, those books had the first mention of "geneticist" that I read. I have had over 250 genetics research papers since. Still haven't figured out how to make a Warlock though The Jim Starlin books were just great.
  16. I am tempted but they look like the same grade as my books that I am trying to upgrade from... GLWTS!
  17. Great to buy from Gene. Although I only bought one book but got a pleasant surprise to find he generously included a couple of copies of Overstreet guide to collecting. Everything was packed well and shipped promptly.
  18. That weird letters page arrangement is in my copy, too. 9+
  19. Very interesting! My score went from a horrible 34 to 9 (and from 9 to 1 in round 3). Thanks for this insight. And of course, thanks to CGC_Mike for all the work in running this competition!
  20. Two bullseyes but nine points on the others. Tough to assign grades above 9.2 and agree with others that that Showcase looked sub-4
  21. This could just scrape in to a 4.0 imho given its nice eye appeal. A 3.5 would be more honest though given its defects.
