  1. Why bother promote a comic con in a comic book forum? By Crom, it was good seeing you yesterday!
  2. Super, thanks! I've also been in touch with CGC. They'll give me the official word in a day or two, but the above has pretty much answered it for me. Greatly appreciated.
  3. Hi folks, I'm not a fan/collector of variants and error/recalled editions of comics, so I'm hoping those of you who are can help me out with this fun little find of mine. I recently purchased a lot of 150 or so variant comics from a local. Most were exclusive editions, including many relatively rare ones and foil editions. In the collection was the coveted NYCC Exclusive Gold Foil Wonder Woman #1 Rebirth Jim Lee variant pictured below. Cool find, right? Well, it's even more exciting because I just realized yesterday that my copy is an error version, with the silver foil back cover, instead of gold. Learn more about the error here. So far so good. I know what I'm dealing with. Where I need info is in regards to the extra white cover attached to the book that you see below. Were the copies distributed like that to protect the covers, then removed before being given/sold to the public? If not, then I think I have a promo copy. As it turns out, the seller told me these came straight from the printer back in the day, and there are a handful of books in the lot with this extra cover. I've scoured the internet and have yet come across another copy WITH this white cover on it. So, can anyone shed some light on this? I'm sure there are many of you who are in a place to know how these books arrive from the distributor. Thanks in advance!
  4. My pleasure. You may not think it's a "big deal", but I'm not risking CGC thinking it is, so I kept them out of latest submission.
  5. That was my guess too. Just wondering if CGC will kill copies with it.
  6. Can you see it at the bottom right? Sorry for the crappy photo, but it's the best I could manage right now. A crescent-shaped groove.
  7. Yeah, that's it alright. It's even difficult to see when you know it's there! I'll try and post a photo shortly.
  8. Are you certain? It's rather subtle. What part of the world are you in out of curiosity?
  9. Hi All! After making the rounds at my LCSs I noticed that every single copy of the regular edition has the same defect: a very fine and subtle semicircle indentation on the bottom right corner of the front page. At first I assumed it was a damaged copy when I looked at my 1st copy, but every single one had it. Same at every shop I visited. Does anyone have copies WITHOUT it? I was planning on submitting my copies to CGC, but I won't do so if these puppies are going to be dinged for a production flaw while there are copies out there without the error. Thanks in advance!
  10. Anyone in Montreal this Sunday? If so, you might want to drop by FantastiConMTL. It's a smaller event, but it's been growing and it's really for comic book fans--plenty of local comic book creator guests and dealers. There will also be a cosplay event. Check it out! They're also on Facebook. I'll be there and my books will be up to 75% off; I'm clearing out most of my inventory. Here's a link to my sales info.
  11. Hello all! I'm going to be downsizing my operations to focus on my day job while maintaining an online presence selling graded books and keys. I LOVE doing shows, but my real life situation doesn't allow me to do as many as I would like, nor allow me to travel for them, so it's time to pull the plug as they say. Therefore, it's time to clear out a big chunk of my inventory, so I'm going to post this here first and foremost, and see if there any takers for the entire lot. I will officially close it by the end of the week-end in order to 'legally' advertise it elsewhere. On to the fun stuff! Asking price: $15,000.00 CAD (Estimated real retail market value $60K+ CAD) Shipping/delivery terms: Pick-up only. Location: Montreal, QC, Canada Grade: Grades vary of course, but the 1985-present stuff is on average 9.4. The Silver Age stuff is mostly low grade (5.0 and lower), while the Bronze Age stuff is pretty solid for the most part--6.0 and higher for the most part. The books have been stored in a clean and dry storage facility, so no need to worry about this being a water-damaged, etc. lot. Miscellaneous: All but 7-8 boxes have been processed and are ready to go if you want to start a business. In other words, you don't have to spend 700 hours prepping these books. Bags and boards are relatively new (<5 years) for the processed stuff. Are there any keys?: There are no big keys in here. I'm keeping the pricier books and graded books, but that doesn't mean this has been cherry-picked. All of the under $40.00 books are still there. There are TONS of lower-end "wall books." About 50* longboxes broken down as follows: 24 longboxes of my main Bronze to Current inventory. Consists of books priced between $4.00-35.00 each. I’d say the average sticker price is north of $7.00 (and I don’t jack sticker prices up). Long runs of solid-selling titles like ASM, BATMAN, WALKING DEAD, HARLEY QUINN, DEADPOOL, X-MEN, etc… These boxes are my bread and butter. I try to stock only quality books in these. Lots of classic covers and minor keys, as well as variants. 6 longboxes of sets. Lots of pricier sets such as CIVIL WAR, HUSH, OLD MAN LOGAN, MARVEL SUPERHEROES SECRET WARS, CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, NOVA vol. 1, SHE-HULK vol. 1, INFINITY GAUNTLET, THE LONG HALLOWEEN, etc… 4 long boxes of “cheapies.” These are mostly books that most vendors prices at $3.00-5.00 each, but I normally blow out. Mostly modern stuff with some low grade Silver Age (SA), Bronze Age (BA) and lower end Copper (CA) books. 4-5 longboxes of “discount” oldies. This is mostly lower end SA and BA books, many of which were purchased from a large store purchase and I didn’t want to reprocess it all so I simply put them in 50% off bins since their sticker prices were rather high. 2 long boxes of SA books. A nice mix of stuff priced under $40.00 each. 1 longbox or so of magazines and older Marvel Graphic novels. Several $40.00+ items. 6 or so long boxes of TPBs and HCs, including a few pricey editions. 1 magazine box of fanzines, art folios, Fireside Books, and other misc. type items. 4-5 boxes of overstock. Most of it consist of Spidey, X-Men and Bat titles. The photos below show most of the boxes. Thanks for looking and don't hesitate to ask questions. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * The exact number of boxes per category might be off. I have to triple check.
  12. Mike!!! I haven't seen you in years. Too bad I missed you (it's Brad).
  13. I've sold several $100.00-500.00 books, despite my terrible location, and quite a lot of volume from my regular bins. As for buying, I was had by a guy walking the floor. He was trying to sell a handful of mostly DC Silver Age keys. I purchased a Showcase 55 that has undisclosed colour touch that I initially missed... My bad. Thanks to @pickycollector from spotting it. I broke my cardinal rule of NEVER buying pricey Silver Age books from strangers at a con. The lighting is poor, you're in a hurry and tired. That's a recipe for overlooking things and getting burned. Something did seem fishy about the guy, and as it turns out, most, if not all, of the books were restored because another dealer drove by me outside after the show and shouted: "I bought doctored books today!" It happens to the best of us. Fortunately I didn't spent too much. I should be able to get my money back after disclosing it. Buyer beware folks if some guy approaches you today at the con.
  14. I noticed that too some time ago. Can someone tell me why this book is hot. Thanks!
  15. All valid points. A few quick comments: I disagree with the inability to sell stuff from that era under 9.6. The '80s contains some of the best superhero stuff out there. The Copper Age is my bread and butter. Classic runs can be obtained for reasonable prices by anyone with a modest disposable income in the raw 8.0-9.4 range. Many of us tend to forget that not everyone is a high grade/slab collector; many actually want to open the comics and enjoy them (i.e.) me. As for the need to press, the whole act of pressing makes me sick to my stomach. I call it the "squeeze everything you can out of it" syndrome. Yeah, I hate that, BUT most casual buyers know nothing about grading so it's a wash. Even I now price my books based upon eye appeal more so than actual technical grade. I let the buyer determine if they like the book for the price. Avoiding assigned grades on most of my books has eliminated 99% of debates without negatively affecting my reputation or sales. I sadly disagree. Flipping moderns is the way to go if you have the time to follow what's hot and make the rounds. These are books you can often find for $1-4 each and then get multiples of 5-10x if flipped quickly. The dollar return is even much higher if you manage to get them graded at 9.8 or higher. But, you risk getting burned if you hold on too long. Thanks for the feedback!
