  1. Well, sure, like I said, I'm sure there are reasons why they are apparently not making money. The thing about non-US subscriptions certainly would make a large difference, even though I imagine the market/shows in that market would be proportionally less expensive to make. I googled. Disney+ supposedly has about 46 million U.S. subscribers paying an average of something like $6.50/month. So, that's like $300 million/month, $3.6 billion/year (just US). Which is significantly less. But seems like you could still make 12 "Stranger-Things-level-expense" shows (1/month, so there's at least one major new draw each month to keep the subscribers around) and still have more than a billion left for other expenses. Even if you were making nothing from other markets. Still agree the $200 million/show for 8 episodes is an absurd figure.
  2. There is definitely money to go around in the industry. But heaven forbid they try to come up with a more equitable and even-handed way of paying people because socialism. The streaming dilemma is interesting to me. It's interesting because they are apparently losing a lot money, but it seems like these companies should be making money hand-over-fist from this arrangement. Like, Disney+ has a subscriber base of close to 150 million people. If those people are paying an average of $12 per month, that's over 1.5 billion dollars, every month. How can they be losing money with that kind of revenue stream? They don't put out 1.5 billion dollars worth of new show every month? Even the absolute most expensive shows - say like Stranger Things - cost around $20-25 million per episode. For an 8-ish episode show that's maybe $200 million. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why this still loses money. Just sayin', I don't get it....
  3. It's because the movie was bad.... Though, I suspect there's no way the book could have maintained those prices even had it been a cinematic masterpiece.

I have watched 2 episodes. I am intrigued. I will definitely finish it, but I am already worried that the resolution will be unsatisfying. At least for me, because I am a huge nitpicker. (Don't get me wrong, I still can enjoy the things I nitpick at, it's more like a game) But maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
  5. 1st one was really fun. 2nd one, not so much. Warped almost entirely, I think, by the desire to shoehorn Colin Firth back into the story. And I loved Colin Firth in the first one, but I still think this was a poor decision. So now, who knows? Maybe it will be better than the second one since the proverbial deed has been done with Firth, and maybe they can just go back to telling a fun story. God forbid they try and shoehorn Mark Strong back into this one....
  6. I think DC would be positively thrilled to have a film get to 800m at this point. Especially after their last several films. I mean, maybe not if they spend 300m making it....
  7. People advertise their books in MCS auctions here: https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/19-comics-market-sales-advertising-ebay-dealers-etc/
  8. Well, this makes slightly more sense as a reason for them to have made a big deal about Mr. Terrific being cast in the Superman movie.
  9. Seem to recall reading somewhere that they were exempted because of British law, or something. Like, it would have been illegal for them to strike and/or they could have been sued/held liable for damages if they did. https://ew.com/tv/house-of-the-dragon-season-2-still-filming-sag-actors-strike/
  10. So, you know they already "introduced" him, right? Post credit scene of Thor Love and Thunder? You say "fully" so I assume that's what you mean, but I doubt his next appearance, if he gets one, will be especially grand. They were setting up some kind of "revenge" angle. Which, they just did with Gorr. I would also say he's already kind of messed up by association considering they way they portrayed his father, Zeus, in that film. Zeus as portrayed by Russell Crowe was just so bad.
  11. Dudes. It's art. Way stupider stuff happens than this.
  12. Stand corrected then. Nice to know. Maybe they could do something like this. I guess they do slab those stupid "preview inserts" that people have pulled out of comics. So, like, if you ripped the cover off completely....
  13. Think I read somewhere that they won't honor a request to slab a book backwards (intentionally). As in the case where you like the back cover more than the front. This seems something like that.
  14. I mean, any cover can be under $100.00.... You mean restricting to "high grade" CGC (9.6 and over? Or would 9.2-9.4 be acceptable if it presented well enough?) Does she like Wonder Woman? I think you can get this one in a 9.6 for $100.00
  15. This is why I'll never put in a "secret" max bid on an item (at least, not a max that is way out there in terms of price). For fear that someone (the company perhaps) knows what it is and will just shill me up to my max every time. Not saying that's what happened, but I am just very paranoid about the possibility of things like that.
  16. Well, it was about what I expected, maybe a little worse. While I appreciated that they were going for something a little different in this movie with the emphasis on "family" and the hero family's overall involvement in the story, it got a bit much for me at times. I did wonder about the history of the Blue Beetle they referenced in the film. I know nothing about the character, so I can't say how well they did it or how it might resonate with someone who knows the character(s) from the comics, but I found the backstory that they did explain somewhat confusing.
  17. My expectation is that this movie will be completely fine. Also, completely unoriginal and extremely familiar in every story beat. Which, frankly, is most superhero films these days, so maybe shouldn't hold that too much against it. Find out tomorrow.
  18. Is it bad I've been coming here for over two years and never even noticed the Black Button or what it does before?
  19. I just watched this yesterday! Thought it was pretty good.
  20. So, the question I have is, where are you selling your son's books for him? Clearly you are taking the patient approach to this to maximize your return. Is it mostly ebay? Facebook market? Craigslist? Yard sale (hah)? My collection sounds kind of like the OP, where I have about 2000 books, primarily 80's, and the "cover" price for all of them adds up to close to $2000. I have occasionally imagined soliciting offers for it, but then, I decided I didn't want to depress myself.
