  1. ebay 1c NR - Tony Daniel Batman, Crain X-23, Andrews Astonishing X-men Storm Splash, Mad Watchmen Parody Hi Folks I listed a batch of art on ebay starting at 1 cent with no reserve! They are: 1. Clayton Crain X-23 commission. Get it now before it gets even hotter because of the Logan movie! 2. Kaare Andrews Astonishing X-men full splash with Storm, Beast and Wolverine - Warren Ellis scripts! 3. Tony Daniel Batman action page - Grant Morrisson scripts! 4. Mad Magazine Watchmen parody page. The page is a massive 18x24 and this might be your best chance to get something Watchmen related at a reasonable price! ebay link Thanks for looking Malvin
  2. I have seen lots of colour guides like that. I have one: dinosaurs for hire issue 1 cover and have seen others over the years. Malvin
  3. heh, you think that is bad? I have had people make an offer that I accepted then I never hear back. Or people who agreed to a price I name then never reply again. That is way worse than someone not responding when you give them a price. But it is what it is, I have come to accept that in this hobby. Also, minor quibble your math is off in the sense that shipping is usually extra and not something the seller eats. Typically. Malvin
  4. Its basically the artist and image. All things being equal, you might even argue that Variant covers are worth less. There are fewer printed so nostalgia would be less of a driving factor than a cover that was shown everywhere and everyone remembers the image. In today's world, with many comics have multiple variant covers, you could even argue that those covers are more like pinups (and valued accordingly) Malvin
  5. I think Chris, Eric, Roger and others have captured my thoughts well. As a buyer, I almost never approach someone if it wasn't for sale. I have done it once or twice and made a 6K offer for a piece that is probably worth less than 5K. It got his attention but he wanted a higher offer and I politely said that's the most I can go and if I may contact him again later if that changes. As for my gallery. When I first started collecting, I put something like "for the right price everything is for sale" int he FS status of my pieces, which could mean anything (e.g. if I was interested in selling, FMV would do it, if I was not interested in selling it would have to be multiples of FMV). I have since changed that (although I think old pieces still might have that tag unfortunately) but I basically just put NFS if it is not for sale and "NFS.. but if never hurts to ask" if I am more inclined to sell that piece at FMV if someone was interested. But yes, nothing irks me more than someone who inquires then offers a fraction of FMV. Or someone who professes to be a fan, beats you down on price, then after I relent they throw out additional terms like time payments which were not mentioned up front. Malvin
  6. Heh, as I said, it's easy to name niche interest and say they are under appreciated. But when you find key (well, this is subjective) art from Batman, Spiderm-Man, Superman, etc that is under-appreciated, then those are truly under appreciated! Malvin
  7. I'll play. And this was actually tough! I certainly have my fair share of niche interest and many of those I would feel would count. But I decided to go for something mainstream. After settling on Batman, I still thought I had 2 strong candidates, until I saw a 3rd one that makes the most sense. Jim Aparo Card art of the Death in the family storyline and this card is the one where Batman finds Robin Dead! That storyline while panned and not critically acclaimed, certainly hit all the nostalgic sweet spots for me. No art has ever surfaced (I vaguely recall someone said DC still has it?) so this is the next best thing. CAF Link to Jim Aparo Card Art with Batman Finding Robin Dead Thanks for looking Malvin
  8. Art Day - Josh Middleton Scarlett of GI Joe Full Colour Commission Hi All, I generally don't have a commission theme and only ask for characters that an artists is most associated with. But one of the few themes I have are colour interpretations of Scarlett from GI Joe from artists with distinct colour styles I like. Very few artists fit that bill and Josh Middleton is one of them. I got one from him and I have to say, I am ecstatic! CAF Link Thanks for looking! Malvin
  9. I assume you didn't win the one on ha Sunday? Malvin
  10. I collect both, but nostalgia usually trumps. For a pretty picture, I would pay big dollars if I know the market for that artists/art supports it (and I am getting a reasonable bargain). But if it hits the nostalgia sweet spot, I can and have paid above market. and in terms of total dollars spent. nostalgia probably dominates, and when it's time to sell to fund art purchases, I keep the nostalgic ones. Malvin
  11. I look at it periodically and have bought from it. I don't recall if I have an account, I recognized the seller and also contacted him on caf Malvin
  12. Actually no one complained about your prices. You were complaining about your pieces not selling and most people mentioned the price as one factor. Lots of people put stuff for sale and many are unsold. I have stuff on my CAF for sale thst are unsold. I don't recall seeing too many people complaining on the boards about that and certainly no one blames and alienates potential customers Malvin
  13. There are many points to be made, but I'll answer one specific point you cited. It is not an old boys club, I can think of one or two reps that started after you Thst are doing fine. Felix comes to mind, and I think Jason started after you too. They seem to be able to make a go at it. Have you sat back and observed what they so differently compared to you? Malvin
  14. Hi Folks, I have a batch of art ending on ebay tomorrow. They all started at 1 cent with no reserve so the next bid could win it for you! The items and current prices are: 1. Snejbjerg Starman action page from the James Robinson run - $139 2. Simon Bisley Lobo sketch -$22 3. Mark Bright Emerald Dawn page - $20 ebay link thanks for looking Malvin
  15. I believe there are past threads here with evidence based on ebay listings. But if you believe you paid a fair price, that's all you can really do if the seller has a hidden reserve (and you really want the art). Unlike other middling art others sell... Malvin
  16. Thanks for catching that Hal, I was in a hurry and forgot to change the default Malvin
  17. Just uploaded a Phil Noto DPS from Danger Girl Las Vegas!! CAF Link Thanks for looking Malvin

  20. Just uploaded a classic Spy vs. Spy complete one page story by the one and only Antonio Prohias! CAF Link Thanks for looking Malvin
  21. Nice collection! I think with the cloud hanging over "Bob Kane" artwork I would return and not bother. As for other artists, it really depends on your tastes as tons of great artists have worked on Batman, a few that come to mind are: Shelly Moldoff - one of Bob Kane's ghosts, and there are lots of examples out there that are priced reasonable Tim Sale - I assume you have read and love long halloween and dark victory Jim Aparo - The definitive Batman artist for me Neal Adams - enough said There are just so many out there! Good luck. Malvin
  22. Yup, which is why I was so keen to get high quality sketches/commissions as a substitute. There are the odd published pages. I think for one avengers issue he did it physically just because, there is that DD head that was used on a background for one of the cover, but unfortunately it is mostly digital. Malvin
  23. They were in fact done digitally Malvin
  24. Not going to comment on all the other forms, but if it is an overlay, I would say it is zero to positive impact and not in any way negative Malvin
