Born in Roncesvalles....and I eventually ended up moving back there in my adult life. Unfortunately I won't be attending the con this weekend, I often skip this 'smaller' one and just save up for the main fan expo later in the year.
Yes another Ronces alum! I grew up on Geoffrey St and went to Howard Park Public School. I had my first job at the Loblaws close to Dundas West and started collecting comics at a coin and stamp shop that is still in the neighborhood just at different address.
I was back in Ronces on the weekend to watch Tank Girl at the Review Theatre. That neighborhood is home for me.

I was born and spent the first 25 years of my life in London. I then moved to downtown Toronto for my first job after university in 1977. After two years I moved to Clarkson in southwest Mississauga where I then lived for 20 years. Since then for nearly 25 years I've been living in what real estate agents like to call the Upper Beaches near Main and Gerrard Streets.
I am in Lisgar/Meadowvale now in Mississauga. I miss Toronto. I don't think I will ever be able to move back to Toronto with the price of houses even though I own a house in Mississauga. Kind of crazy.

Lots of people from Toronto here. Nice to see. I was born and raised there. Spent the first 20 years of my life in Rocesvalles and then the next 10 on the east side in the Beaches.
What parts of the T-Dot is everyone else from?
@Sauce Dog @Hepcat - Are you guys going to Toronto Comic Con this weekend?
-
Toronto Comic Con is this weekend (not sure if that is why you are in the city) but there should be a good selection of books there. The other place that I shop for good books is CapCan Comics. It is about an hour away from Toronto in a place called Brantford but their selection is huge and they have everything from $1 books all the way up to big keys. They also have a website so you can shop/browse their inventory prior to going to decide if they have what you are looking for and if the trip is worth your time - https://www.captcancomics.ca/

Still waiting for the new cases too huh?
Is that actually going to happen though? I haven't seen CGC mention anything about that actually happening regardless of how long it will take

I recently purchase a nice copy of Batman 227 that was supposed to travel from New York State to Ontario Canada (a 3 hour flight) and for some reason it took off across the Atlantic to Belgium before arriving at my door. The seller and I held our breath and prayed that it didn't get lost. I still have no clue why USPS would send it like this:

Are we watching the same stream? 😆 On that stream he's usually a raving lunatic who berates the people buying from him 🤣
That seems closer to the streams that I have seen Rob in. He sits in a stream engaging with fans while actively banning people left and right. The stream then usually turns into a chorus of people praising Rob and kissing his butt which is difficult to watch.

They should be slabbed and labled a .5 for life....
Too generous a grade. I think the NG label would be more accurate for them.

This is just his latest attempt to keep his name in the news and stay relevant because his current work certainly can't do that. He should retire from behaving like a contemptuous creative genius.

Everyone should brace themselves for an announcement from CGC: Introducing the CGC 10.0 Prescreen!

This is an absolutely ridiculous announcement and strategy (can you you even call a bonehead move like this strategic) given everything they have going on with their "build your own holder" design. No announcement on anything relating to a real solution but they are giving us this and the 9.9 pre-screen? Just when you think CGC hits rock bottom, they break out the excavator and keep fracking things up.
Weren't there 2 grading price increases in the the last 2 years as well? I bite my thumb at thee CGC.

jealous, my remarq is still in SFG and hasn't moved
Frustrating. I was rather surprised that it moved through all the stages in 10 days.
What book did you send in and what remarq did you request?
-
My Sketch has shipped today and it is graded 9.8! Very happy and just crossing my fingers that she has a safe journey home.

My remarq is still in SFG; post a pick when yours if finished so I can be envious and bemoan my bad luck while waiting...
I'm really excited for this one. I sent in a blank Batman 181 and asked them for a first appearance Poison Ivy homage.
I have another Jim Lee and Alex Sinclair sketch of Beast (my favorite) and they absolutely killed it. Can't wait to see how this one turned out

My Sketch was update to grading/encapsulation/imaging today. Based on my last post, it too 7 days to go from SFG to GEI. Fingers crossed for a 9.8

Dipping my toes into the Silver Age with this purchase. I had kept my eye on an ASM #40 CGC 6.5 White Pages at my LCS but searched around on eBay first and found a cheaper copy. The eBay copy had an OBO option so I threw out an exploratory offer that was $150 below what they were asking and to my surprise they accepted. Very happy to this to my collection.

Seconded, I’d contact the seller. I pack my slabs wrapped in thick layers of that good good bubble wrap in a 1095, but I did have a slab get damaged once (the box looked like USPS dropped it from a second story lol) and I was more than happy to compensate the cost of a reholder + plus a little extra for the inconvenience. The offer was full refund/return and once the book was reholdered the buyer would have first shot at the book, or the partial refund for a reholder. Felt fair.
And this right here is customer service. Providing options that are all a win and letting the buyer decide.

Has that ever happened to you at CapCan Comics or are you just speaking about comic shops in general?
I have found the people at CapCan to be quite helpful.
