  1. Hello there! (Impersonating Obi-Wan Kenobi.)

I'm creating this thread because it seems like that's the right thing to do.  I've been collecting comics on and off for over 40 years and recently joined in on the fun within the CGC community. I do some buying and selling on eBay but wanted to take a stab at selling on here. I recently had my first transaction and I hope it turns out beneficial for both parties. I now have a second listing up for sale. Understanding the importance of building trust and reputation, I figured I should create this thread so anyone who deals with me has an opportunity to share their thoughts; positive or negative. My intentions are always good but that doesn't mean my execution is flawless. I'm open to criticism and always looking to improve. So have at it folks! Enjoy your day!

Also, if anyone is looking for me on eBay my username is GRENDEL0013. On social media I find that sometimes I use one zero and other times I use two. I get confused myself so sorry about that. Lol.

I will join the Chorus in saying that this kind of drama is the exception and not the rule. The framework of rules that govern the Sales area here is longstanding and time tested. When something new has come up the community has been able to work with the host and moderation to adapt. I am no historian of the hobby on the internet, but I have to think that among message boards this must be among the oldest active. I have bought and sold on here for going on 10 years now, and I have never lost a wink of sleep. This place works very well because there is a community that supports and protects it.

I'm actually happy to have joined when I did. I don't want to see things all polished and shiny when they are at their best because then I can potentially be let down later on. I want to see them at their worst because then if I can tolerate that I know it will ALWAYS be okay. Kinda like looking for your perfect mate. Of course I want to see them all manicured and groomed for a night on the town but in reality I'll need to accept them messy hair and morning breath on a day to day basis. I'm happy to hear that MOST of the time sales go without a hitch but it is more interesting to see how things get resolved when they don't. I'm a big advocate on communities like this policing themselves.

I have full run of Mage The Hero Discovered/Defined - all are raw copies but I have several CGC graded books (#1 and #8 only).  It would be great for Netflix - 15-16 issues each title - Mage Hero Discovered, Mage Hero Defined then Mage Hero Denied (I never read Hero Denied) can be adapted into the series on TV.

What actor do you think would make a good Kevin Matchstick?

Yes.  He did.   I bought one and then another the next day.  I paid for the first but didn’t pay for the second until after both had shipped.  Not really that unusual, I’ve been around a long time on the boards. A lot of boardies have done that.

I would def do that for someone I dealt with before and built a trust. I'm honored if someone does the same for me.

  5. Hey folks,

After going through some of the forums and making some posts I wanted to take a stab on trying to sell on this platform. I have only sold on eBay previously (and currently) but wanted to give this a try. Although I am a newer member to the community, I want to publicly state that my intensions are genuine and to please bear with me if I have a learning curb.

My eBay user ID is grendel0013. For some reason I used two zeros there. Any social media I'm on (YouTube, Instagram) you'll either find me as grendel013 or grendel0013 for folks doing their background checks. xD

The first slab that I wanted to advertise is a CGC Universal Blue label 9.4 OW-W page Grendel (1983) #1.

I'm looking for $300 for the slab and $15 extra for priority USPS insured shipping. Willing to entertain offers.

From what I've read, PayPal is the preferred payment method so I will use that. First to claim, please send me your email and I will send an invoice.

I'll post some pix in just a few...

    Thanks!

    -Guy

CGC has no interest in policing the marketplace here. It was a courtesy added, and it’s up to the community to police itself.  I think it does a pretty good job weeding out the riff raff

I guess you're right. I just wonder how Pawn Shops know when items with serial numbers like watches are stolen. I guess they have access to police databases. The one pawn broker mentioned a "website" but maybe that was specific to the watch maker themselves. Idk.

I will also add to the notion of the boards being the least sketchy place to buy and sell. Bad people are banned quickly. Hoping that is not the case here. As long as you never ask/never pay anyone requesting payment via Friends and Family (such people should be reported), you will be safe here.

In regards to this thread, I personally never like threads or posts where the lead is "I am in financial crisis, and need money". I get that there are reputable people who have legitimately been in such a scenario and sold stuff by leading with that info, but for me it is a personal turn off and could...COULD...be trying to appeal to potential buyers in two ways; by getting you to feel sorry for their situation and, potentially providing a reason why valuable items are being offered at a very good price. It is a classic way to scam people. And the smart comic book scammers have books....maybe they are their own, maybe stolen ones. So they come to a place like this, sell some legitimately, gain trust and then try to do what they can to scam (like this if it is the case) so they can walk away with 10k and still have the books so they can continue said scam in a year's time, on another platform or whatever.

Really hoping that is not the case but a sinking feeling is telling me it is here. Like I said, these instances here are usually few and far between but have happened. Perhaps something needs to be put in place where you need to be a member for "x" amount of years before you can start selling? I dunno......

Is it also possible for CGC to include a "warning" flag in their registry? I know that more people look up certification numbers in the registry  now that grader notes are available. In the past I don't think it was utilized as much because hey, the book is graded and certified, what's to look up right? But if CGC perhaps included a warning flag (e.g. the slabs available on this post) folks would know if they should be suspicious. And it would definitely help if the books were truly stolen.  I just finished registering all my slabs so if they go missing I have another layer of proof that I'm the owner. I know CGC maintains this because I recently bought a book and tried to register and couldn't because it was still registered under the previous owner. They reached out to him and asked him to delete so I could enter. The system only works if everyone uses, but I'm on board.

You'll find more success in your future sales threads by being an active member of the community through participation and conversation. I can't speak for others, but I shy away from sales threads from newer members because if they only have a couple dozen posts, they likely don't know the expectations of the people here when it comes to grading, selling and packing. Everyone has to start somewhere, obviously, but for me - that's usually a couple hundred posts.

Although I do consider myself a niche collector, I do like the community aspect of this forum. At first glance it didn't appear to be so vast. As I've said in other posts, I don't mind being called "the Grendel Guy" so long as the community as a whole recognizes me at some point. I probably should start by entering my other slabs into the registry. Previously my focus was solely on my Grendel collection. I appreciate this feedback.

Yeah I'd stick with PayPal Goods and service option for payment especially being new here it will give everyone involved a sense of security.

I appreciate this feedback. I guess I have to familiarize myself with PayPal as a seller. I've only used it to purchase items but never invoiced. Thanks!

Never pay with paypal personal as there's no buyer's protection, here or anywhere else.

CGC allows us to buy or sell here but they have nothing to do with policing it.  If someone doesn't follow through here as a buyer or a seller they can go on our probation thread and their reputation will be mud around here and they'll have trouble buying or selling.  It isn't perfect but I've done many many deals here and only had problems once.  And that was on a relatively small amount book from a long time boardie who suddenly disappeared and never came back.  I suspect something catastrophic happened to him.

oh man. I gotta check out the probation thread.

PayPal. Buyer protection. And after 10 years here, you're new, he has big $ books. Not saying you don't but some one involved in this bought a 5 figure book recently from him no issues. He'll want back on here at some point. We are on lots of other venues too. His name will follow and so will Ill will doings here on the CGC Boards.

You don't screw people over here and expect it to blow over easily. Especially with this amount of money problems...if you read back it's around $10k in books PAID for currently...

I gotcha. So PayPal is the safe way to transfer the money then as opposed to Venmo or CashApp? I'm just wondering how I get people to trust ME if I start listing stuff. My eBay account is growing but I'm thinking the biggest benefit to posting here is avoiding fees. I'm an honest guy but you guys don't know that. And I've met some scoundrels in my lifetime... LOL... so I know they out there.

    Don't stress listing your books.

This is a seller ghosting buyers and others trying to contact about buying.

Which there is ZERO tolerance for here on the CGC Boards.

Either the seller will come forward and we'll sort this out,or he's basically done forever here on the CGC Boards.

Sell with confidence if you were going to, this is a seller... And buyers wanting answers...

Look at how long we've been here...

Did anyone give him money yet? What stops him from ghosting after he gets paid? If he does one big scam I doubt he'd come back to the boards anyway.
