  1. Very cool. Never seen one like that before. I do have a Thor #411 with one outside cover and 2 complete interiors all stapled together but have never seen one of these.
  2. Nice, which print if you dont mind sharing. It was essentially this print (minus the text) Or the link here since the picture doesn't seem to be showing up? So basic semi-cheesecake-y slightly sexy elf chick. Nothing terribly inappropriate by any stretch. *edit* for some reason, it's not actually showing up on my end. Just copy/paste that link if necessary. That print isn't even CLOSE to being inappropriate. Most girls who don't like stuff like that just have an inferiority complex because they don't look that good themselves. I can understand why you don't like her.
  3. Great book! I've seen images of this before, but what the heck is it about? It looks like something designed to appeal to fans of The Timbertoes in Highlights magazine. I'm trying to figure out who would have purchased it, like most B/W indy comics from the 70s it was more expensive than full color stuff available on the newsstand, and wouldn't have had much of a distribution network. In 1976 you had the first wave of underground comix falling in sales, and the other B/W books available were mostly sci-fi/fantasy oriented, like Star-Reach and First Kingdom. Sim lives in Kitchener, Ontario, which is home to the (reputedly) largest Oktoberfest celebration outside of Europe. I've always been under the impression that it was a locally-produced anthology title that "borrowed" the Oktoberfest name for marketing purposes... I have a couple of copies, but I'm not sure exactly where they are... Maybe someone who's got one handy could see if there's any editorial content to confirm this? I have a copy. I'll pull it out in the morning. I just pulled my copy and there are no editorials. The only text other than the comic story lines themselves is the indicia which credits Harry Kremer as the publisher, The Beavers characters credited to Dave Sim and Cap'n Riverrat credited to Gene Day. It was printed by Moir Hayes Graphics and Fairway Press. The main story line is about how the character Natter P. Bombast finds a document and claims he is the sole "owner" of Oktoberfest and forbids all of Canada to celebrate. Uncle Hans then stows away on Bombast's plane when Bombast goes on a hunt for a co-owner by the name of Running Lake. They eventually locate a descendant of his, Richard Running Lake, unexpectedly and to Natter P. Bombast's chagrin, Oktoberfest can be celebrated once more.

  5. Now THAT is something to have. A double cover AND a 30 cent price variant all rolled up into one.
  6. Now this is the kind of stuff I LOVE seeing in this thread.
  7. back from CGC (coupon submission)---- ASM 5: 6.5 ASM 4: 6.5 ASM 3 7.5 ASM 2 6.0 TRIMMED.... Ok - not too terribly bad given the lot as a whole - but it had marvel chipping down the side so I did not look too closely at the rest of the cover. In any case - I like to keep a couple books from each decent score -so this one makes the decision pretty easy. Sill a bunch more on another submission (this was a 4 pack coupon sub) - but these were 1st to ship back. Very nice!
  8. Holy krap! They're coming out of the woodwork now.
  9. 12 cent price variant (10 cent circle blackened). Oh I see it now. Cool. You can even kind of see the old price. That was done on the printer, or after? Not sure about the printer aspect of things. I know Journey into Mystery #76 is the same way. In both issues (Gunsmoke Western #68 and JIM #76) there are both the 10 cent and 12 cent versions.
  10. 12 cent price variant (10 cent circle blackened).
  11. Had a good time today at the show. Sold $400-500 worth of books and met about 5-6 people who joined my OKC Area Comic Book Buy, Sell and Trade Facebook group but whom I had never met in person. Also got to see a lot of dealers I had met at previous cons (including OAFCON). Hope to sell a bunch more tomorrow.
  12. Yep. There are actually a number of comics like this: 1) Sensational Spider-Man #27 2) Spectacular Spider-Man #257 3) Spider-Man #91 4) Titans #1 (Direct Edition) 5) Prodigy #1 6) Hornet #1 7) Dusk #1 I know are more but those are what come to mind right now.
  13. I have been wondering about these "game" inserts myself for a while now. I haven't found THAT many books with the inserts in them (I actually have much more with Mark Jewelers inserts in them). Not only are there the Atari inserts, but there are Konami and Nintendo game inserts as well that I have found. I've also found inserts for Major League Baseball and CBS Toon Time (Saturday morning cartoon line-up). As I have found any books with these inserts in them, I've segregated them out for quicker referral. Here's the list of what I have so far: Atari Insert Action Comics #521 Direct Edition (1981) (1st Vixen) Action Comics #521 Newsstand (1981) (1st Vixen) Action Comics #524 Newsstand (1981) Batman #340 Direct Edition (1981) Batman #340 Newsstand (1981) Batman #343 Direct Edition (1982) Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #5 Direct Edition (1983) Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #5 Newsstand (1983) DC Comics Presents #35 Newsstand (1981) DC Comics Presents #42 Newsstand (1982) Superman #375 Newsstand (1982) Konami Insert Darkhawk #9 Direct Edition (1991) Guardians of the Galaxy #18 (1991) Direct Edition Nintendo Insert Guardians of the Galaxy #8 (1991) Direct Edition Major League Baseball Insert Superman #397 Newsstand (1984) CBS Toon Time Insert Action Comics #526 Newsstand (1981) DC Comics Presents #40 Newsstand (1981) Superman #366 Newsstand (1981) As you can see, it doesn't seem to matter whether they were Direct Edition or Newsstand copies as I have 3 cases (Action Comics #521, Batman #340 and Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #5) where both the Direct Edition and Newsstand copies both had the insert in them.
  14. They don't segment them out but I do believe they will note if the book had a Mark Jewelers insert just as they would other variants of note.
  15. I noticed this one has the "ENDED" banner on it. Does that mean it just ended or did it actually sell? Most of the ones I've seen that actually sell have the "SOLD" banner on them. Never mind. I see that it sold as a Buy it Now.

  17. I will be there as a seller this year. It will be my 3rd OAFCON as a seller. It's a great show with lots of comics of all ages. I would guess there are roughly 30 different vendors altogether. Definitely well worth the visit if you can make it.
  18. As I stated before, nothing posted in here HAS to be from garage sales, flea markets or antique malls. That was the original intent of the thread, but we all love seeing great comic book /comic related/unique item finds so it was decided a while back to just let her fly and post what you want no matter where it came from.
