  1. I agree that it should NOT be part of the Dave Stevens cover registry set.

  3. Nick was great to work with last month on a Doctor Strange #169 purchase. Decides quickly and pays fast. No worries when dealing with this buyer. (thumbs u
  4. You must have a great wife if she actually talked you into buying those. (thumbs u I bet it took quite a bit of arm-twisting too... Very nice books to own...Congrats! Don't let her go,she's a keeper. (thumbs u Indeed she is! And yeah, she actually did talk me into both! I was just gonna go for one or the other. She said "Why choose?" If you're REALLY lucky, she'll have that same attitude when you get a girlfriend.
  5. I never knew Dave did such great work on smiley faces.
  6. You must have a great wife if she actually talked you into buying those. (thumbs u
  7. I just bought Rocketeer Adventures #2, 3 and 4 in CGC 9.8 so I could add them to my Dave Stevens registry set. Today I find out they're no longer part of the set.
  8. I was one of the ones who made a passing comment that they should be dumped. I shared this via PM with fasterfriends...I don't have much appreciation for the postumous, re-colored, re-worked DS "tribute" covers. To me, it's like IDW reprinting a Famous Funnies #210 cover on a new book and calling it a Frank Frazetta cover...then adding it to the Frank Frazetta Covers set...that doesn't work for me. The IDW books are great, but if it were my choice I'd include both front and BACK cover books and leave the registry to originals only. I can see where you are coming from and we definitely agree on the back covers. Anybody else want to chime in? The name of the registry set is "Dave Stevens Covers". Whether it is a reprint or a new release, the IDW books still have Dave Stevens covers do they not? To me, ANY comic/magazine/fan mag with a Dave Stevens cover (front OR back) should be included in this set.
  9. There were lots of garage sales in the area this weekend. I managed to pick up these for $1.00 each at one of those sales. No major minds here but some good solid books to flip or maybe have graded:
  10. I've never seen that Spider-Man 2099 #1 before. Is that a 2nd printing? All I've seen is the regular red cover.
  11. I guess I've been lucky compared to some of you other guys. Of the 25-30 double cover issues that I have, I've managed to find most of them in comics or collections that I bought not knowing they were double covers ahead of time.
  12. Thanks for the info. (thumbs u I just watched a video on the Fisher F2 and it does look like a nice machine to start out with.
  13. Nice finds everyone! I've always had a general interest in militaria, but there's a tonne of competition in my area for it. These guys are not only going from garage sale to garage sale, but they are practically going door-to-door looking for this stuff before it has a chance of hitting a yard/garage sale. A few months back I decided to get into the hobby of metal detecting. It really is great exercise and for anyone who is an outdoor enthusiast, it can be extremely therapuetic and a good destresser. But as I've been learning the ropes, I also found that it's a great way to connect with local history. A few weeks back, a lady walked over while I was metal detecting at a public area wanting to know a little more about what I was looking to find. When I told her I was interested in pretty much anything old (coins, relics, etc.) she explained that about 1.5km from where I was standing there was a First World War trench. I was on my lunch break and only had enough time to walk over to find it. I passed it a few times but eventually found it. Unfortunately, it took all the time I had left to find it and I had to return to work, but that evening I did some research to confirm that a local regiment did actually do trench warfare training, and the trench actually had a mortared backstop to be used as a rifle target range. This was the confirmation I needed as the man made land features I identified in the woods were consistent with the research (i.e. length of the trench, general location, etc.) I returned about a week later (it's a wooded area that could only be traveled by foot and so I was waiting on a few dry days as there was lots of mud on the trail). Found a bunch of old bullets, a few badges (rusted beyond recognition) and few other oddities. I'll probably head back for the rest of the summer working the immediate and surrounding area of the trench, but I returned to the general area late last week and did managed to pull out an 1857 half dime: Would you recommend one metal detector brand over another? I've always wanted to buy one myself but never got around to doing it.
  14. It's actually a secret code that the CGC graders use to communicate with aliens.
  15. I don't believe it's been brought up in this thread before, but here's a question for you guys: Has anyone ever seen a double cover Dave Stevens cover comic book?
  16. See, I told you I confused the both of you. Someone should make the jump and change their name to Dark Prime Prime One. Maybe I'll change mine to Dark Shark.
  17. One sale in Jan. 2012 for $526. Before that the 2011 Average was $603. No sales of 6.5s in 2013.
  18. They're not. They are the standard CGC boxes.
  19. Give CGC until Monday (a regular work day) to try and fix things. Hopefully, they'll get it right.
  20. Liking your room very much Are your book stored in those filing cabinets? Yes. My "main collection" of higher grade Marvels is in 3 separate 4-drawer lateral file cabinets in my office with books to submit to CGC in another 2-drawer lateral file cabinet. All of my other raw books are in 10-11 standard 4-drawer file cabinets in another room with another 40 or so long boxes stacked on top of those. In addition to that, all of my CGC graded books (about 600), 13 boxes of magazines and about 18 boxes of ungraded books are at my storage unit. Additional pictures Ask and you shall receive. (thumbs u The first pic below is of one of my two 36" wide 4-drawer lateral file cabinets. As you can see, I can get 4 rows of comics in each drawer. I also have a 42" wide lateral file cabinet that holds 5 rows of comics. Most of the rest of my collection resides in legal width or standard width 4-drawer file cabinets. I can get 2 rows of comics in the legal width cabinets. The long boxes of comics sitting on top of all of these file cabinets is about a 10,000 book collection I picked up in Ada, Oklahoma about 1-1/2 years ago. They're still ungraded and still need to be bagged and boarded (mostly '80s and '90s stuff). All of my CGC stuff is at a climate controlled storage unit along with boxes of magazines and about 18 boxes of ungraded comics (mostly Marvel). I have enough to keep me busy for a long, long time.
  21. One of my favorite bands in the early '60s (yes, I'm THAT old) was the Dave Clark Five. Maybe we should call the top 5 in the CGC registry the Dave Stevens Five. Cool, I'm in a band now "Glad all over, Yes I'm uh, Glad all over, Baby I'm uh, Glad all over, So glad you're miiiiiiiiiiiiiiine"
