  1. That's what I'm stopping my run at 328- w/ McFarlane's exit, my interest wanes...
  2. Well good to see you're one of us Spidey collectors at heart
  3. I've got slight to significant cases of this on MANY of my books. I have a feeling this is a pretty normal thing for SA ASMs... or SA in general.
  4. Doc, I didn't know you bought the 1971 beotch slap pedigree? What a great place to have a date stamp!
  5. Could be a slight miswrap or even just a little spine roll throwing it off a bit.
  6. While it might shock some of you, these books AREN'T low grades (though the 101 is close an the 129 is (Q) due to a missing MVS)! I guess I didn't scan my 122...oh well!
  7. Looks like the cover is almost if not off. That'll drop a 2.0 to a 1.5. anyways AH- I was guessing it was just a popped staple. But yeah- definitely one I'd like to own some day.
  8. Yeah- what are the grader's notes on that one? Sure presents nicely for a 1.5
  9. "I'm now looking at collecting as consumption, and whatever dollars I throw at my books will be considered gone. " Probably the BEST way to go about it.
  10. I'm currently sitting around 750-800 and based on my goals... I'm thinking I'll probably make it to around 2k by the time I switch from collecting to working on other aspects of my hobby (upgrading, OA, etc). I can't even imagine getting up past 5k...
  11. I must be boring, if I'm THAT obvious, ...sorry... I just figure sometimes people (even men) get emotional about a subject and can't see the forest for the trees.. Nice pun! Boring- far from it. Dependable is more like it. If it was so obvious, we wouldn't have this problem. Your point and illustrations are quite appropriate to the situation.
  12. I'm sure I won't be hoarding- I'm a little focused on what I collect. I can see doing SOME upgrading down the road on a few of my ultra low-grades though. Of course, I do have a few other titles I want to get taken care of prior to "polishing" my collection. I'll agree with you that ASM is a lot like a Subaru- very good resale value. However, if you're looking into the low-to-mid grades, you can still find some good deals out there... depending on what issues you're hunting for I didn't realize you were working on an ASM run as well. Very nice! And TR- you know what PLOD REALLY stands for don't you? Purple Label Of Discount! Those are some great looking books, and I'm sure you were able to snatch them up at a fraction of the guide value on those grades. Good looking stuff there!
  13. After reading Ghastly's response (and the example of the 'break it you buy it rule' is noted), I was waiting for Sharon to pipe in about customer service. "We all know the postal service plays football with the packages, USP and FedEx too, it's the nature of the beast. It has nothing to do with a neighbor, kids, or anything else, we KNOW the boxes are going to get tossed around...so, when you pack something, especially something expensive in high grade, you need adequate packing around the items to protect it.... ...I've learned to insure ANYTHING I sell, even if the buyer doesn't want to pay for it, that is over the amount I would feel comfortable reimbursing the buyer for in case of a problem." I think you've hit the nail on the head here in being more proactive in high-value dealings to avoid 'he said' situations like we are seeing here. $5 down for insurance would have likely seen a resolution to this off the boards...
  14. Those are two classic books! Really great looking copy of 39!
  15. Thanks Owl! I started turning red (according to my wife) when I pulled out the #4 and began inspecting it. As she said, it was worse than when I got my high grade ASM 300 last Feb. for my birthday (this was my first mini-grail). And Cap, for you in finally nailing down your ASM 28 mini-grail!
  16. for Mikeyriffhard for an craaaazy deal on two awesome Ron Lim sketches (Cap headshot and full Surfer sketch)! These look awesome!
  17. Kudos to mr.schomburg for the ASMs 2, 4, 7, & 22!!! It's nice when you buy comics and they are accurately or even undergraded. It really means a lot when you buy high value books like this and find them graded as marked or better. The excellent packing job was the icing on the cake! Thanks Paul! (thumbs u
  18. Wow... do you really need an answer??? NICE book!
  19. I started really going after the Amazing Spider-Man title back around this time last year though I was collecting up some of the Copper Age Spidey stuff a little earlier. I'm actually working on a run of ASM 1-328 (McFarlane's last issues- all goes downhill from there for me). It's just that within the first 50 issues, being the most expensive, I've almost got this part of the run complete. I'm about 70-75% finished with my goal. It's just exciting to not have to go hunting for the big fish for a long while cause there is NO way I'll be attempting to tackle a #1 any time in the near future. And I might actually be selling off a few hundred dollars worth of Warhammer models tonight so I might not have to opt for cheap beer after all!
  20. It's been a while since I've posted scans of new books... so here goes! I have copies of ASM 13 & 29 lined up for a future purchase, so that leaves me missing only 1 & 17 for ASM 1-50. My signature says it all now
  21. Those are some nice books you picked up. The ASM 39 is one of my favorite SA covers and a real Spidey classic!
  22. No, I made a run on a few, but couldn't quite pull it off. It's okay though- if they were easy to get then they wouldn't be grails But I'm relatively certain that before the summer is out I will have every other Spidey in my run (1-328) minus the #1 so that's not too bad.
