My first purchased comic book was when I was with my mother in an AM/PM in Chicago and I was allowed to purchase a Marvel Premiere #30 (Publication Date: June 1976) featuring the Liberty Legion, Invaders and the Red Skull. Before that, I had read my older brother's comics he purchased mainly from the train station (the "L") along with what are now discarded Silver Age comics he found or had been gifted. I would not actually read Marvel Premiere #29, the first part of the story, until many years later.

I have multiples of comics from various buys, but these days, I tend to buy childhood books. If I come across one that I remember especially from early childhood, I’ll buy it… if just to recapture that childhood memory for a moment.

Good luck, but as was said, be prepared to be a little disappointed. Sometimes, the books just aren’t there in 9.8… even after a press. The TMNT magazine size comics are hard to find in 9.8 condition. In the vein of your TMNT submission, I had a recent Raphael submission that came back with some hits and some misses. (I slabbed them knowing most weren’t sure 9.8s, but hoped for the best.) I don’t think any will lose money though… that only happens if it’s really low grade. Good Luck with your TMNT set.

Grader Notes heavy fade front cover spine stress lines

They clearly do as this presents much better than a 4.0. It probably dropped it down to a maximum starting grade of 6 or lower I'd think with the other defects (spine breaks, soft corners) taking it further down. Looks like it was pressed although I bought it slabbed so I can't be sure. (I don't have a lot of experience with sun fading in any case so others would have a better viewpoint.)

I picked this up recently from MCS because of the sun fade with overlapping, unfaded red sticker shadow, and because it was one of my childhood books. (I read the Marvel’s Greatest Comics #59 version.) (Comparison slab I found on the web.)

For people just like this: It's always been my advice to local show promoters that they rent racks for people who are new or will just set up ONCE at a show (as far as you know). They should sign a waiver absolving you of any responsibility of any damage to their books from said rental of the rack... but it will help them immeasurably possibly. (I'd also provide them the tip of using a large size post-it note stack and a thick sharpie for pricing.) You would have it set up for them in their booth before their arrival. (Just another revenue stream and you would be helping out the new people or infrequent sellers... or just people who don't have the room to drive around with racks in their cars and their comics.)

You probably cannot ever grade a comic book automatically via AI/computer using current grading standards, but I can’t currently see why you couldn’t actually grade cards automatically eventually. (Or through most of the process.) This part of the organization COULD scale. Blackstone may not have purchased the company mainly for the comic book industry when the NFT market or other segments may show much more promise or scalability.

You realize the regular membership here have been PAYING for membership for over 20 years too right? Paying dealers to submit books for us? Paying for an annual CGC Membership to support CGC and/or to submit in later years. I remember those three free Express Grading coupons each year. Or is everyone here literally a dealer?

Until GPA starts including NON-CGC sales for its data or one of its competitors supplants it as the premiere source for pricing slabs, valuation will continue to be an issue.

It's called a handling/processing fee CGC already charges this.

A Premium Membership at $149 has no discount. An Elite Membership at $299 has a 10% discount. (Which means you need to save at least $150 in fees to make it worthwhile in the most basic terms.) So a Dealer Membership now costs $199 and gives you a 15% discount? What am I missing here? (I have an Elite Membership and am registering as a business this year due to the new tax law. It seems to me I should be applying to be a dealer and I would actually save money.)

It's a new way of communicating. The merging of the new with the old. The sign of the times. A message board thread where some of the responses are in video format. We used to link to pre-made Animated GIFS and response videos.... but now we have sites where we can put our custom messages on top of the GIF or video. Not with this particular video in mind... but a video showing how to put together a long box would have been much more helpful than a diagram that looked like it was from IKEA many years ago.

You might also consider some type of Original Art from a favorite series suitably framed. Those tend to be one of a kind.
