I think this was helped by the fact that there is a serious lack of reasonably priced alternatives. It’s probably the first time in over a decade that there isn’t at least 2 or 3 slabs of a 1st print #1 on eBay that are priced to sell.

Agreed. I’ve never seen anyone try to counterfeit a Jeff Smith signature anyway. Not on a first print #1 at least.

If I were you, I wouldn’t get the signature verification at CBCS for Bone #1. Green labels are very common with this book and largely accepted by the Bone collecting community (myself included). I wouldn’t go near a CBCS book unless it was significantly discounted. Then I’d just cross it over to CGC.

Just received my book today and compliments to everyone at CGC for assisting with the Frank Miller/Klaus Janson signing for the TDKR 35th Anniversary. The placement and color of the signatures are spot on! This was my first experience with an in-house signing and I’m very impressed. Thank you very much!

They sold that red box set with an original drawing by Jeff. He did 50 of them that were fully inked and then watercolored by Steve Hamaker. All had the same basic setup of the cover to #11 with green grass, a blue sky, and Fone reading from a book. Sounds boring but they were pretty well done.

Was in time for this one. Sorta makes up for missing the 20th anniversary OA

I’m looking for a 9.8 #1 too so good luck! There have been zero public sales of a first print CGC 9.8 or 9.6 in 2021. Making a guess is too dangerous

I actually have a few of these books as it was the first reproduction done in color. They’re probably not worth much since there’s no mention of “Bone” on any of the covers.

In my experience, it’s #5.

There’s at least one CGC 9.8 out there that looks fairly similar. It would definitely be on the lower end of 9.8s but there’s an outside chance it could hit the same grade. It would be in my 9.6/9.4 range without having seen the back cover.

So they will do all the research by just looking at the book being graded or looking at the entire series? I ask because I have a book from the series that I’d like to get reholdered and it has the first appearances of the two major villains in the series. This detail is presently not included on the label. Thanks Jennifer.

So you can only request a new detail to be added if you’re actually having the book graded? The Bone series will increase in popularity once the Netflix series begins to air and there are four or five books that need “1st appearance of, death of, etc”. I can only submit this to a grader and pray he/she puts in on the book?

I’ve attempted to ask this question a few times via the regular CGC Comics website but it never gets answered. There’s a series I follow that needs additions and some of the label notations that currently exist are wrong. Please don’t tell me it’s up to the grader as this is not a proper answer. Thanks!

That seller on eBay is questionable to me. Both his 9.6 and 9.8 were “sold” last year then were re-listed shortly afterwards with much higher prices. Could be a logical explanation to what happened but it’s all fishy to me. The $13k sale of the CGC 9.8 #1 on Heritage last year is an anomaly so far. Haven’t seen another #1 get to half that figure as of yet but the 8.5s-9.4s are doing very well.
