  2. I was alerted that there was a mistake in my tracking of the Batman Adventures issues because some issues we had previously added to the list had dropped off.  I think this is correct now if I've accurately combined the info from the recent lists.

Also interesting to note that the bag contains a direct edition Marvel, rather than a fat diamond Marvel.

Marvel transitioned to the small diamond layout for all titles in June 1979.  This pack would have been released about six months after that, so the small diamond Marvels were to be expected by then.  There are many Whitman labeled packs that contain the late 1979/early-80s Direct edition Marvel comics.

Kind of. I find Stars at shows/antique fairs/LCS's all the time for $1-3 that I end up selling for $10-20 on eBay. Just sold a Strawberry Shortcake 1 (it's actually a few posts up on this thread) last month for $15, paid $2. Had Madballs 1-3 that I bought for $3 total and sold for $20. I'm not getting rich off it, but I buy and sell a lot of books to fund my personal collection purchases, and I always buy cheap Star comics when I find them, because I know that if I can get them for a couple bucks and they're in decent shape, I'll get 5-6x money back or more.

This may be a trend.  I've seen a few Star comics in the last year in dealers box for $20 or so which I found shocking.  And I'm seeing sales on ebay (Ewoks, Droids, Thundercats, etc) that used to be easy buys for a few bucks a copy are now readily going for $10 a pop or more.  I found a few issues of Peter Porker at the last show and was happy to grab them for cheap because I know they were a bargain. Maybe Royal Roy and Top Dog aren't going to escape the dollar boxes, but I think some of the titles and issues are making their move.

  5. I should also mention that this Whitman 3-pack may be my white whale first spotted way back in 2003 when I had barely begun collecting DC Whitmans.  I came across a multi-pack on ebay that had a DC Whitman sandwiched between two other comics, and I'm pretty sure it was Flash #283.   Just fresh into the search and not knowing much about which packs were common or not, I didn't know if I should try very hard to buy it and it went to some other buyer.   It's been a long long wait to find it again, and this time I didn't let it get away.  I'm not sure if this is the same combo of comics that I vaguely remember from so many years ago, but it seems fairly likely that it is.  Anyway, I'm telling myself that it is!  lol

  6. Here's a very cool pack.

    Contents:
    Marvel Super-Heroes #87  (March 1980)
Flash #283 DC Whitman variant (middle - March 1980)
    Shogun Warriors #11 (Dec 1979)

Very odd that Whitman mixed up two March 1980 comics with an older one from Dec 1979, plus it's rare that they put DC and Marvel comics in the same pack.

This is the second appearance of Flash #283 in a Whitman multi-pack.  Flash #283 also appeared in a 3-pack of all DC Whitman issues together with Wonder Woman #264 and Brave And The Bold #159.  Both of those issues were from Feb 1980 and were joined together with the Flash #283 from March 1980.

Not my listing but I saw someone on eBay had this for sale.  For those trying to find all the sealed packs, I hadn't seen this one mentioned before.  I'm not 100% sure if CARDS ONE was a distributor at the time or just some company who repackaged them as a reseller years later.

I suspect it's the latter case, but that's just my hunch.

I'm thinking out loud here a bit, but there have been some strong auction results for the DCCP 22 Whitman of late. There have been 4 on eBay in the past month (see picture), but I'm starting to think that perhaps the discussion needs to change a bit. Ten years ago, we weren't certain this book existed, then we thought there were fewer than 10 copies that had been found. These days, I know there's a single boardie who probably has 10 copies, and the CGC census has 32, which is probably more than any other DC Whitman has.

Has this book been over hyped? It's one of the least "noticeable" DC Whitmans, in that it is easily mistaken for a regular edition. Did this "invisibility" make it seem rarer than it actually is?

    Yes and maybe.

I see a few people have mentioned they felt the scans were poorer quality than the first round.  When I click on these images twice, I get a larger scan that looks to be a nice, quality scan.  I always view the boards at 125% I don't know if that makes a difference or not.  So, I would like some feedback regarding the scans.

This round I can't get an image that's as clear as the first round.  Two clicks gets a large image, then you can zoom in using software.   Could be some hidden surprises that you can't be sure about this way.   But.... everyone is looking at the same scans, so it's a level playing field.  (shrug)

There seems to be an increase of interest for Superman Man of Steel #18, was there any announcement re Doomsday?

Dunno about that, but the CW Superman & Lois show made reference to Doomsday right before they revealed that the newly appearing super-villain was

    Spoiler

    Bizarro Superman

There were many similarities to Doomsday as they were dropping clues, ultimately leading up to Lois telling Clark to "not go all doomsday on me".
