Right??  To have a book in your collection that some thought didn't exist a few years ago...  (worship)

    @Brock

It's been more than a few years.  I own the first widely known copy of DCCP22 that got any attention.  A guy snagged it off of MCS' site after reading a bunch of comments from the variant posse on the STL forum about whether it existed or not.   We had an image of the cover but the debate was whether it was real or photoshopped.   The guy posted a video for those of us at the STL forum saying "it's real, here it is".  I threw an $offer$ to him to make a deal and thankfully he took it.  Thanks to that issue I finally completed my DCW set in April 2012.

I think these are the only two Whitman copies I own.  The LCS has a slabbed copy of Sgt Rock #329 Whitman.  I don't remember the grade or the price, but it's been there a bit.

CGC Census has only four copies - 3.5, 4.5, 5.0, and 7.5.  Not sure if there are any graded & slabbed by other grading companies.

Without reopening the whole "Marvel Whitman" argument, is there any Marvel equivalent to the "Big 8" DC Whitmans?

    Also:  Great pickup!

They all seemed available enough that I have been able to collect multiples of every issue.  But it's hard for one person to say -- while I might have difficulty locating an issue others might not.  Like with the DC Whitmans it seems some collectors found the tough ones easily, but they were all a chore for me.  As for the Marvel issues, there are some like Battlestar Galactica and Micronauts that are always available in multi-packs, they are so common I only grab copies if they are cheap and minty.

Yesterday I mentioned that there will be a contest. To make this work for all US time zones the contest will run from 8 PM to 9 PM central time next Friday February 12th.
If something happens to my schedule we will push it back one day to Saturday the 13th.

    Here's how it will work.

Somewhere between 8 PM and 9 PM next Friday I will post the same gif with Flash and Superman as seen below.

    giphy.gif

I will also post one question at that time.

The first contestant to reply with the correct answer will win the prize.
If others wish to supply a prize let me know before next Wednesday and I will add additional questions, to be posted after the first one is answered.
These questions will be posted one at a time, until all prizes have been awarded.

Other posts with gifs and such are welcome during the contest. :insane:  Let's have some fun with this.

Only the 14 contestants and Flashlights will be eligible to be included in the contest.

The prize will be the Archive Edition of Golden Age Flash Volume #2

Not a reprint, it's a first printing Whitman variant.   Generally there is currently little to no price differential vs the regular UPC issues.

We're still looking for documentation that anyone other than Whitman ordered and distributed such comics.  Spoiler --  none has been found.  Jim Shooter's statement that these comics were made for Whitman and the lack of any evidence to the contrary works for me.   Ordered by Western, distributed by Western, packaged and sold in Whitman labeled bags, confirmed by Jim Shooter as a program for Western.   You'll hear different opinions, but look for any facts or documentation to back up those opinions so that you're not misled.  I won't repeat all the debate, but there's lots of information shared in this thread

Hi, so I got this comic as part of a lot I recently bought, but I noticed the barcode (there is none) and the price were different from the standard issue. I checked on Mycomicshop, and it said it was a Whitman variant, but it doesn’t list the value... any ideas?

Grab your favorite beverage. Smoke if you got em. Lets have another contest in this rapidly shrinking universe of surviving contestants.

Just for fun, at the end you should make up a ranking showing the results if everyone had gotten their first choice.  Of course you'll have multiple folks who had the same issue as their #1, but would be an interesting What If scenario to see how it might have played out.  :foryou:

USPS may be catching up just a little bit.  I've received several packages mailed within the last two weeks, most arriving within 3-4 days.  Of course the longest delayed item I'm still waiting on is a package that shipped on Dec 15th that's still trying to find it's way here.  Tracking shows that it arrived in town a couple days ago, they just haven't been able to manage the last few miles yet.  :frustrated:

The Dec 15th package has arrived!     Just one more package from December needs to escape the USPS clutches, but it shipped very close to the start of the year so it's not been quite two weeks yet.   Go USPS, clear that backlog!
