  1. I had the good fortune of pulling up to the house today at the same time as the USPS truck.First book out of the box was this.

    I was thinking/hoping for a 6.0 when I submitted it,since the highest on the census is a 5.5

    Sweet sweet book :cloud9:

Hey Gator....wasn't their a Catman 20 at Megacon this year? Where you selling it or did Dale Roberts have it? I think it was a 4.0 though but still sweet and I thought about grabbing it

It was a 4.0. Sold almost immediately when I got home to a board member and had another rather well known buyer standing in line for it...

  3. I hate to agree with JC, but the title of this thread is

General Discussion: Keep the other threads clean.

    I second that.

I don't completely disagree with that, I just think people are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Yes, some people have posted way to many graemlins, but looking at Blue's thread, the ones slamming the graemlin poster were taking up more room than the original graemlin post. A polite PM would probably been enough, rather than a full blown discussion in the thread, both parties are guilty.

To most of us, this is a hobby, sure there is some serious money exchanged at times, but it still should be considered a hobby, and hobbies should be fun. This is a collectors website, not a retail business site. If you run off everyone that enjoys this as hobby, who will you sell to? Just one dealer to another dealer? That will be fun, I bet there will be no record sales in that situation, just lots of price haggling PM's back and forth. Nothing wrong with dealers, but if not for the people that do this as a hobby, they would dry up on the vine.

If you do decide to police these posts in this fashion, where do you draw the line? One guy eating popcorn enough, 2 is too much? Are we going to ban people for eating too much popcorn???

So what do you suggest? It is not like you are not in favor of drawing the line, you only want to draw it in a different place than we do.

When a seller starts a thread, his goal is to sell books, not to provide a discussion forum. That is already provided elsewhere. Sure, some minor discussion is generally fine, but I saw a thread the other day where it was 2 entire pages with no books posted, no I'll take its, just talk.

I for one am not trying to police the board. I would simply like to look at the books without having to sort through pages and pages of nothing. I think most sellers would like people to be able to find their books easily as well. And I am not against chat and graemlins, but just use some judgement and discretion about your posting.

  4. Guys, not sure if this is an appropriate place for this, but I just listed a big group of Detective and Mystery pulps in my ebay store and will be listing another larger group tomorrow. About 120 total pulps. Mostly in pretty good shape and some good titles. Check them out.

Just got the rest of them listed. They should all be on by tonight. Check them out. Thanks

  6. Bill - some beautiful books from Dale and Bob, especially that #18! Sweet! Congratulations. If this is the kind of raw stuff you're finding at the Chicago con, I'm going to have to make the trip one of these years.

    Thanks.

Bob and Dale will both probably be in Baltimore in September..... hm

Actually, I am not going to Baltimore this year. Marc gets a nice crowd in, but it is not a good venue for sales. Last year I was set up next to Ted and across from Bob, and we were swatting flies most of the convention. I know Harley did okay, but over half his sales were on 1 book (a VG/F AF #15) and he purchased that book at the show and didn't make that much on it.

  7. Good luck to both Mark and Brent. I hate when things like this happen. It is particularly damaging to the reputation of dealers as a group when things like this happen. And it really hurts the legitimacy of the hobby as a whole.

Hopefully, most will realize that this IS in fact not typical of the majority of dealers and that most of us are simply trying to make a living, while trading in a hobby that we love. And that most of us are not out to screw people over.

I think it just goes to show you that you should deal with people with good reputations and not every fly by night dealer who happens to come down the pike.

At the very least, I would imagine there are going to be some very interesting conversations in NYC about this.

  8. Yeah, I know what he was trying to do. But by using the quotation marks, he is indicating that I said EXACTLY that. Not really very honest in my opinion.

meh Jeez guy do you have some type of persecution complex? That's essentially what you said in three posts. Next time I'll add "essentially" so you won't think everyone's ganging up on you...

    Jim

Would it be right of me to quote you in this way????

"I don't care what Dale thinks and I don't care what the moderator thinks, and I don't care what the guidelines are, this is what I think needs to happen", because that is essentially the same thing you did to me.

Change that to caring about what the mod thinks and the spirit of the guidelines and I have no problem with it... (thumbs u

    Jim

Thats kind of the point though right?? Quotations mean a direct quote. And since that is not what you said or think, then it is not really appropriate.

No...you were mostly right. Have you ever heard of paraphrasing?

But looking at your quote, since the mod hasn't chimed in on your three threads in one day and doing so goes against what the guidelines were put in place for AND what the Board concensus was before your buddies chimed in then your quote was faulty.

My quote was essentially paraphrasing what you said in a couple posts so I stand by it.

    Jim

    Jim,

I have had far more people PM with positive responses and with posts in the thread than guys who have complained. Who is qualified to say what a board consensus is? I am sure there are people on both sides who have not expressed an opinion, so to say that you know what the board consensus is, would just not be accurate. Not saying you are wrong, but I am saying that maybe you are.

Regardless, I don't think we are going to accomplish anything more by talking about it. Relish in the fact that you have kept me from posting in one of the other 2 threads today out of simple respect for your guys opinions. You can continue to label me as bullheaded and such, but it is really not the case. I probably will post some more tonight, but there will be many people who have posted during that time.

Anyway, like I said, no hard feelings on my end.

    Dale
