Hey guys. I just recently picked up several books from an original owner collection in Ohio. These books are beautiful and I thought I would share some of them. Nothing slabbed yet, but many would be highest graded, some by a large margin. Some of these books are already sold, but thought this thread could really appreciate seeing them.
The original owner marked almost all of the books with the arrival date, and his initials (and some books he also put the title and issue #). Pretty cool

Major kudos to Thundergod99 who graciously sent me a copy of Smallville Season 1 & 2 for FREE!!!!! How cool is that?
-
Starting tomorrow morning(probably mid morning), I am going to be running some very high grade raw silver age from a collection that I just picked up, including some really nice DCs, X-Men, and other stuff. If I get bored, I might list some of the Superman #4 - 100 I picked up too.

Man, there are alot of people in this thread. Anybody care if I post some books for sale???
Wouldn't you rather announce an upcoming sales thread?
Are you next in the groin punch line?

i did that on a PM not the message board. Plus if I recall your price was 10 to 20 times guide.
I have gone to numerous conventions and bought and sold. Funny when I sell top notch stuff to dealers I never get more then guide price but the same comic in the same condition will be sold at 10 to 20 x guide at multiple dealer tables. I understand the need for a profit but it's funny how the CGC grade does not matter when a dealer is selling it(meaning I hear how the comic was undergraded from the dealer to warrant a bigger price) but it's gospel when a dealer is purchasing it. All I'm asking for is consistency folks and to respect people on this board.
You are selling to and buying from the wrong dealers
BTW, the same seller you are defending offered an Iron Man #54 CGC 9.8 for 2200.00. Guide is 50.00. You do the math....

I think you should change your board name to MrHypothetical

A person who is a seller is potentially trying to take advantage of the forum, I don't see a buyer in the same way.
Since the general spirit of the forum is to offer deals here that you wouldn't offer elsewhere (because we are all in it together, peace love and camaraderie, pals deserve a break and what better pal is there than a fellow forumite)
I would think there is more opportunity for a buyer to take advantage than a seller.
uhhh, where is that thread?
-
I for one refuse to buy something from someone who contributes nothing else to the boards. This is not ebay. It is not Craig's List. It is not Silver Age Comics. If you are going to do nothing but sell here, then you should start paying us all a commission.
Hopefully, you will become a viable contributing useful member of the boards.
Just curious, Dale...but would you also refuse to sell to someone who contributes nothing to the boards? I have had more than a few zero post forumites pm "I'll take its".
If you had that happen would you refuse their money?
I can't wait to punch you in the groin.

I am wondering if you chose your words carefully, or if you just did it by chance.
A zero post forumite is not necessarily the same as someone who contributes nothing to the boards. I know of several people who come to the boards to learn about different aspects of the hobby, but don't post. Other circumstance might include someone who is looking for a specific book or two and rarely buys, but would if the book was presented.
A person who is a seller is potentially trying to take advantage of the forum, I don't see a buyer in the same way. A person who only sells is garnering profit from the board without contributing anything. A buyer is not really gaining anything in this circumstances you are talking about.
We all start out with zero posts. But in my opinion, if you have nothing to contribute to the community, you have no right to partake of its selling opportunities/ benefits(no fee sales, no regulation of sales, many active buyers).
I realize that is not the opinion of everyone, but it is mine.
Just occurred to me that I didnj't really answer your question. Yes, I would sell to a zero post forumite. I would also encourage them to contribute to the rest of the community as well(if I thought they were not).

Wow the arrogance. What you just did sir is cost yourself any possible busines I might have had with you. I spend thousands monthly on comics as an investment for my children and after your response I will NEVER spend one cent on any of your comics.
Some of you people need to learn some manners and relax. If a poster wants to just sell or buy comics who cares? I think some dealers who post here and always ask for the high end price have problems with guys that sell comics for reasonable prices. It's obvious why some of you have problems with this guy. It's because he has great comics and reasonable prices. I'm so used to seeing some of you charge 20X guide for comics that are not even in demand.
Ray,
If you spend money with me great, if you don't, that is your choice. As far as I know, I have never gotten any of your money so far, and somehow I have made it through. By the way, maybe you didn't notice, but I just ran a 160 page thread in which I discounted books greatly, giving deals to board members that I would never offer elsewhere. Many books as much as 75% off guide prices.
Aside from that, this board was created where collectors/dealers/comic enthusiasts can come and discuss comics and related items. The sales forum is a portion of that, and is really a bonus for the members, people who both buy and sell. There are no fees associated mainly due to the fact that the board maintains itself and polices itself, both through its guidelines and through its members. When people come in and contribute nothing, just hocking their books, it doesn't seem right to some of us. In fact, it seems as if that person is taking advantage of the situation and cares nothing about the boards themselves.
He has been encouraged by me and many others to contribute to the rest of the board, and to follow the guidelines set forth, not by me, but by the powers that be. The only way that this board functions is for us to work together.
I personally can forsee a time that the sales forum is basically worse than ebay, where people come only to sell books and scam members out of books and money. That is why he is encouraged to participate in the rest of the boards as well. I don't want that to happen, as it is a great place to both buy and sell, and also to make good friendships, as most of us on the boards have done.

You mean like a coverless GA classic and a BA common issue?
I think three is a reasonable limit if the books are entirely different animals.
For example I'd separate a run of coverless GA books from a run of high grade Bronze books, but I wouldn't necessarily separate a run of coverless GA from a run of GA with covers attached.
Discretion is a big part of it.
I don't think that it should be mandatory to contribute to the boards before selling books if it is established that the seller is indeed credible, as in this case I believe that has been the case (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this).
I think that the fact that the seller is trying to adhere to the rules as they are being pointed out is admirable even if the seller did mess up by not doing his homework ahead of time.
I think it's very possible to keep someone who is initially just a good seller here as a member of the community if they feel welcome. Proselyting, anyone?
In the interests of disclosure, I haven't purchased anything from the seller, nor do I plan to (you never know, though), so I don't have any real interest in this matter other than recognizing that this seller seems to have a decent knowledge of the hobby and would likely become an asset should he or she choose to stay.
Just the level headed responses speak volumes about their character compared to some replies we get from long standing members on here.
Edited to say that positive contributions to the other forums would be appreciated though.
(thumbs u
I don't personally see any need for 3 separate threads. I can see 2 and have no problem with it. You can list GA in one, Silver/Bronze in the other. If he needs another thread, he should run the 2, and close one before starting another.
-
Everyone can give it a rest. I understand now not to have multiple threads. It WON'T be done anymore. I might point out that I do see a couple of other multiple threads. Can someone please point out how to effectively sell 2 entirely different comic eras on the boards and still let buyers who are looking for that material know easily what you have.
Well, if you insist on listing different genres separately, you can start a thread, and end it before starting another. Or you could try the mixed age forum and list everything together.
-
You might even try being a part of the boards in some way that doesn't involve just hawking your wares. You know, like the rest of us. Some of us sell and still find time to participate in non-selling discussions. Many of us even read the guidelines before making our first sales thread.
