  1. superman!

Exactly. Hulk was as mad as a hornet by this time in the fight, and couldn't budge Superman. If Supes wanted he could have squashed Hulk like a little green bug

Hulk's the only one with limitless strength. Being that it's limitless there's no one that could be stronger.

Superman, beaten to a pulp and "killed" by a scrub named Doomsday.

Thor, knocked out and out strength-ed more times than anyone can count.

When only one has a maximum strength that's not measurable, it's an easy choice.

Doomsday was not a scrub... He was a genetically engineered Kryptonian.

But that would be an interesting fight... Doomsday VS hulk

Hulk's strength is not limitless. The limit has simply never been seen yet. The fact that he is powered by gamma radiation and a human body would indicate that his power has limits. At some point, his heart would simply explode.

I am with whoever said that it is really hard to determine which hero in which incarnation is the strongest.

The Silver Age Superman/Superboy had power probably beyond measure. When I see anyone else who is able to move the earth, then I would annoint them as most powerful.

In a fight, Superman has the most powers, the greatest invulnerability, and the greatest strength. Whether that could be defeated by the Hulks savagery, I doubt. And I think todays Thor and Superman would be pretty well matched. Thors greatest weapon could also be wielded by Superman (as seen in JLA/Avengers). And if Superman could pick it up, and simply throw it into space, Thor would be defeated.

  2. Yeah. If I owned a PLOD (my new favorite acronym, Purple Label of Death), I'd see about removing the restoration work, if possible. That 9.2 issue of JIM 85 on Clink is calling to me, but there's no telling what it would grade out as once it's been "unrestored." Might *still* come back with the dreaded purple label...

Speaking of the illustrious Capt., I'm wondering why his 9.6 copy of JIM 85 is going on the block in Clink's May auction. Wouldn't placing it on Pedigree make more sense? No matter.

The bright side of the movie hype is that it's encouraged collectors and/or investors to release high graded copies into the market to capitalize on the fervor. More power to them. Some really low census numbers books might have company soon with raw books in the grading pipeline at the CGC, further increasing the accuracy of the census.

Speaking of movie hype, I'm a bit glad I'm not trying to complete a run of Spidey or the Avengers right now. But someday, I'll own a copy of AF 15 that doesn't look like a gerbil made a nest in it...

That's not Doug's copy. The 9.6 copy that is in the May CLINK auction is a freshly graded 9.6. It was once a 9.4 and got resubbed and bumped up a grade.

That information is not completely correct. It is not Doug's copy though.

  3. Hey guys, in addition to the Golden Age DC thread, I am going to start a Silver Bronze thread tonight, which could run for a while.

Going to be my version of a Foolkiller thread. Should be some great deals and opportunities to buy raw books that would slab nicely.

Lots of very high grade bronze which will be discounted. Lots of nice Silver Age that will be priced conservatively (read cheap). There will be some keys, including a GL #76 and lots of good stuff like Spidey, Avengers, and just about everything else you would like, including some Neal Adams books.

  4. Here is my opinion about it.

CGC is in the best position to determine if it is a 9.9 or not. Clearly better than this guy whoever he is. They have seen a ton of 9.8s of this book. Apparently for some reason, they decided this book was better than the 9.8s which they had seen.

Its not your book. Its not your money. So what do you care?

  5. What are you guys and gals reading right now, besides comic books? I know comics helped instill a love for reading in me and it's still a major focus in my life today. For me.... "Jack the Ripper, Case Closed" by Patricia Cornwell, "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene, Collected Short Stories by H.P. Lovecraft, "Souls on Fire" by Elie Weisel, "The Nature of Space and Time" by Hawkins and Penrose, and two biographies about AC / DC and Led Zeppelin. They're all great. GOD BLESS...

-jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

I just started reading again for the first time since who knows when. Probably have not read a book since college actually, until about 2 years ago. My wife has always enjoyed reading and for whatever reason, I just decided I would give it a try.

I recently started the Jack the Ripper books by Cornwell, but quite honestly, I have better stuff to do than read it. Boring. I will probably try to finish it, but Cornwell has slipped way down my list.

Tried to start reading the Harry Potter series, but didn't make it through the first book.

Currently reading the Hunt for Red October, and probably going to follow with some more Clancy stuff. Pretty good so far, but kind of a tough read.

Just finished reading all the Alex Cross books in order by Patterson, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who like Crime noir stuff from any genre. Easy read, fast moving and highly entertaining.

I also have been reading alot of Grisham lately. Have read the Firm (movie was better), Pelican Brief (pretty good), Runaway Jury (very good), and a Time to Kill (best Grisham of the 4 I have read so far). Grisham tends to bog down in details sometimes, but not so much you want to quit reading, just have to fight the urge to skim sometimes.

Nothing I have read so far compares in the slightest to Patterson though.

  6. And, just to be overall clear:

Most recognizable comic characters to muggles:

    1) Superman

    2) Batman

    3) Spider-Man

    4) Wolverine

    5) Hulk

    6) Captain America

    7) Wonder Woman

    ....

    10000000000) everybody else.

    Ummm... Mickey Mouse, anyone?

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Wolverine weren't farther down this list, and Iron Man might even be in front of him.

  7. In what order which has the better future for long term investment?

    EC`s, Barks,Fiction Houses or Fawcetts.

    thanks in advance.

Fiction House (though some might argue barks first, I am partial to Planet, Fight, etc)

    Barks

    EC

    Fawcett

Gator is the guru, but I would actually put Barks books at the bottom of the list. As much as I admire his work, Disney product in general will devalue over time due to a vastly changing kid's market and a move away from 2-D animation. And Barks books being the most expensive will devalue the most.

    My list would be...

    Fiction House

EC / Fawcett (these two are interchangeable to me. Both have adequate supply, yet both are extremely high quality in relation to present values.)

    Barks

I come uninvited to this party, but.....

ECs (extremely cheap and reasonably, even in high grade, and there have never been warehouse finds of these, unlike Fawcetts and Fiction House, they are also relatively short easy runs to complete.

Barks stuff - mostly due to Disney's significance

Fiction House - Still some nice stuff at resonable prices, but other than Baker stuff and a few classic covers, alot of the same stuff over and over and alot of it is non descript

Fawcetts - if you have read one, you have read most of them, some classic war covers though, and the late stuff is pretty tough, especially in grade

  8. I will tell you straight up that some of them are VERY difficult to find, and some of them are easier to find. You also have to consider the content. If you get a book with 3 Phantom Lady stories, or with 3 Matt Baker stories, then you are going to pay more. If you get a book with just "stuff" inside, then you should be able to pick it up cheaper.

  9. We'll do pizza on Thursday. :foryou:

that 5guys burgers is pretty good too...yum

    their fries suck though

    Not so, sir.

    5 guys is the :censored::sumo:

Never heard of 5guys. Just looked it up and saw that there is one about 5 minutes away. hm

    run, don't walk!!!

They opened one right around the corner from where I work, but they opened it the week after I had my heart attack. I've not had a burger since, and it's like torture for people to tell me how good their burgers are. All the guys at work eat them in front of me making their orgasmic noises.

I've never had one, and probably never will.

    :sorry:

my brother in law had quadruple bypass a few years ago...but, if you do anything in moderation, the doctors allow him the occasional burger...maybe you can too :wishluck:

Oh, I'm allowed to have a sin meal from time to time, but I'd have to blow a whole month's worth of sin days just for one of their burgers.

Do you realize how hard it is to eat well without a sin day for a whole month?

Personally, I think their burgers are being grossly over-rated on this board. Are they good? Yes. Are they anywhere near the best I have ever had? Not even close. I have had much better burgers.

  10. So I guess the next question would be.How does CGC grade a book an 8.5 then regraded it a 9.2? I mean really that's one heck of a difference. (shrug)

The difference is a "cleaned" back cover that the 8.5 graders notes mentioned as "rub transfer" from another book...thats what down graded the book originally.

Part of the main beef of the whole beginning of the thread,he DRY CLEANED the back and didn't disclose it was my original PRESSED 8.5 now "cleaned",being offered as a "raw" 9.2.

I don't think that was the issue at all. I have zero problem with the fact that the book was cleaned up and pressed. I don't think anyone else does. Disclosure or lack thereof is a choice.

The problem was that he out and out lied about it being a different book. Hopefully he learned the lesson from that.

And obviously the book was a raw 9.2 when he offered it.
