The only things I can think of are the first Romita art on Daredevil and the Ka-Zar appearance, neither of which should cause this book to pop that much? This market is just -

Thanks! -
Printer's creases are creases that occur during production, and (as far as I'm aware) do not appear to impact a book's grade unless it's a 9.9 or 10.0 candidate. I personally would not have someone try to press it out because of the risks involved... Here's an older thread about them...hope it helps: Oh, and welcome to the boards!

CCS Pressing. Detached Staples?
silverseeker replied to Still Only 35c's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Per the highlighted comment, I suspect the moderate cover tanning may have been the reason the staples detached from the cover during pressing. So sorry to hear this happened to your book... -

I was wondering the same thing...I bid on a few books and was tracking a few others, and lost visibility to all of them as their auctions ended... -

Cool Article on How the Year 1986 Changed Comic Books Forever
silverseeker replied to Kramerica's topic in Comics General
Cool article! I stopped collecting comics in 1986 (and started back up in 2000) so I only saw the beginning of some of these events... -

@pickycollector, that is an impressive run of books! I agree with everyone who posted about your copies of TOS #49, and would keep the bottom copy...I like the top-to-bottom centering on it better. Regarding your TOS #39, I'm assuming the glue covers more than just the chip, so wiggling it free (as opposed to cutting it off with scissors) would not work? I only ask this because if the chip were not there it would look more "natural" than it would if the corner were cleanly cut off...hope that makes sense.

Heh...we posted this at the same time! What were people thinking when they created some of these villains? -

The Big Wheel, Mindworm and Rocket Racer come to mind, and those are just Spidey villains! -
If there’s any type of correction, my gut says it will happen in 2023 and prices will settle down to mid-2021 or 2022 levels...in other words, it’s still going to cost everyone a lot more than it has historically to get that X-Men #1. A lot will depend on how things change when we get back to some semblance of normalcy with travel, events, dining out, etc. Having experienced the stock correction of 2000 and the housing correction of 2008, it felt like people were buying, buying, buying right up until the correction happened, and what’s going on with comics right now feels very similar. Both my stock portfolio and home value took solid hits when these corrections happened, but both are much better off today than they were before the corrections. With this noted and as many other people on these boards have said, if your comic collecting/investing horizon is longer term I think you’ll be okay provided you buy the right (blue chip) books... Going back to the stock market of 2000, JDS Uniphase, Nortel Networks, etc. were the hot stocks of the time, and we all know what happened to them...the key will be to avoid their equivalents in today’s crazy comic market.

I totally agree, and in my 20+ years of collecting I can't remember seeing the type of run up that X-Men #1 has experienced since late January (it's very possible that my memory is spotty on this though... ). X-Men #1 in around 6.0 has been on my want list since I got back into collecting Silver Age books, and last October I remember telling a friend of mine that I should probably move on one soon because 6.0s were selling for around $12,500 at that time...I unfortunately didn't move on one then, but started to look in January and wanted to share some data points as I went through this process. On January 29th I was looking at a 6.0 where the asking price was $17,500, but passed on it because one of the staples had some rust on it...in retrospect I should have moved on this book because it presented very nicely and could have been used to upgrade to a rust-free or higher-grade copy in the future. On March 1st a 5.0 copy was offered here on the boards for $15,000, and it sold while I was asking the seller a few questions about it...at that time 6.0s were probably selling for $20,000 or more. Here we are on April 9th, and 6.0s are now selling for $30,000 or more. I know prices for many books have blown up in a short period of time because of movie hype or for some other reason, but it's been crazy to see X-Men #1 in 6.0 jump from $17,500 in late January to $30,000+ in early April. Even if there's a correction, I think the floor for X-Men #1 in 6.0 will be around $25,000...this is assuming we've reached the height of X-Men #1 prices, which may not yet be the case. The lesson learned? Sometimes you need to lock in a book if your gut tells you you're at the start of something special.

It'll be interesting to see how much the census increases as people rush to get their X-Men #1s graded to meet this ultra-high demand...I wonder what the numbers will look like in 6 months to a year? Any increase in the census still may not be enough to meet demand, but it might contribute to some price stability.

Me too...that's pretty cool.
