  1. @Straw-Man, for what it's worth it looks like a 9.0 to me as well...good luck!
  2. It doesn't look like a high-quality scan...I wonder if the book looks much nicer in hand?
  3. I agree...pretty much one of the worst (if not THE worst) weekends in the fall to schedule this...
  4. I wanted to add a few photos since the scans don't quite convey the look of the book...I also lowered the price. Back cover photo:
  5. I always double-check bid amounts as I type them in because I have a fear of doing this one day...
  6. Wow, that's an incredibly impressive achievement considering you just started out in 2017...thanks for sharing! I've been at this for 20 (almost 21) years and have only completed a few mini runs...I generally prefer to buy mid- to high-grade raw books and am pretty picky, hence the slowness in my accomplishments. To share my perspective on one title in my collection, here's something I'm considering depending on how the market changes... I currently have a want list for mini runs of most of the big Marvel and DC titles, and FF #1-60 is on this list...I've had a hard time finding FF issues under #20 (I have #20-60), so I'm considering getting my run slabbed and selling it (probably right before the MCU FF movie comes out ) to help get the few books I need in some of my more completed runs (I need Spidey #1-3 and #5 to have #1-102 and X-Men #1 and #3 to have #1-66). It would be hard to get rid of FF #48-50 and #52, but waiting on the MCU FF movie would give me time to change my mind and keep them should the market shift away from the craziness we're experiencing now.
  7. I wonder how many "in-progress" Silver Age collectors (people with bigger key books still on their want lists) will give up the hobby as a result of what's going on right now? Unless there's a decent downtick in prices after this craziness ends, I'd assume some (a lot?) of these collectors will have a hard time fulfilling their want lists in the future. For example, if you're trying to put together a Spidey run of #1-50 but are missing issues #1, #3, #4, #13 and #15, do you: Wait things out and hope prices dip? Try to buy these books now? Accept the fact that you'll never complete this run and be happy with the books you have? Sell while the market's hot?
  8. And here are the details... Tales of Suspense #53 - Formerly CGC VF 8.0 - $450 $400 $350 SOLD I don't think this book has been pressed, but I bought it already slabbed and cracked it out. I unfortunately don't have the label that goes with this book because it got torn while I was cracking it out and my collecting OCD would not let me keep a torn label. I'm not sure whether I should use a or a emoji for this statement. Here are the graders notes for the book though: The one thing not mentioned in the graders notes is a 1/4" spine split at the bottom of the front cover, and here's a photo I took of it (hmm, it looked more in focus when I took it): And here are scans of the book itself: Back cover scan:
  9. Hi everyone, I recently upgraded my copy of this book, and have a raw, deslabbed CGC 8.0 copy of Tales of Suspense #53 for sale. Those of you who've sold raw books to me in the past know I ask a bunch of questions when I'm interested in a book, and I can say that this book has none of the following defects: Loose or detached staples Rusty staples A loose or detached centerfold Stains Chipping or dents Major creases Any printing defects (printers creases, smudges, etc.) I prefer to ship via domestic or international USPS Priority Mail (things feel like they're starting to get back to normal with them), charge the exact cost for shipping and will cover the cost of insurance. I accept PayPal, checks or money orders. The first gets the book, but I will also entertain offers via PM. Since this book has been deslabbed I will accept a return or make things right should you not be happy with it for any reason. Please No probies and HOSers, and thanks for looking! Art
  10. I totally agree, and suspect it would be a 9.8 if it were graded today...just enough small defects going on that would keep it out of the 9.9/10.0 category in my opinion. Would be a bummer if SCS caused the top edge wear pointed out in the first image shared by @jcjames...
  11. +1, unless there's some defect that can't be seen in the scans. For example, there are some marks that look like they might be spine tics, but I suspect they're just color rubs. That is a beautiful book!
  12. 4.0 for me as well...nice book! I've also heard that Marvel chipping doesn't impact the grade, but don't know if there's a point where extensive Marvel chipping does come into play?
  13. @Wreck-It Ralph, auction prices seem to be crazy right now for a lot of books, probably because demand is far exceeding (reasonably priced) supply...
  14. I suspect some people who have key books are afraid to sell right now because prices keep climbing so quickly, leading to less books being available?
  15. Thanks! I totally agree, and think it presents very well for a 7.0...the colors really pop on this copy. I'm usually not a big fan of written dates on front covers, but this one is so subtle and lines up well within the "A" that it doesn't bother me at all...
  16. 9.0 for me as well, but I can see it possibly squeaking out a 9.2...I think the scalloped creases at the top edge of the cover are from production.
  17. One way to potentially limit damage after pressing is to see if the presser you choose will ship books to CGC on your behalf...this will save you one shipping leg (from the presser back to you), and I'd assume most reputable pressers will pack your books very securely for the trip to CGC. This is, of course, assuming you're not planning to submit your just-pressed books with a bunch of other books and want to open only one invoice with CGC...
