Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
silverseeker replied to InfantTerrible's topic in Comics General
Makes sense...it's also an older label so maybe someone thought it could get a grade bump with a press? -

The price on this book I was tracking in the latest CL auction seems crazy strong to me...not sure if I'm missing anything? -
Let's this thread... SOLD $50 donation to the Gofundme gets this book shipped within the US...if you're located outside the US, hit me up and we can work out the international shipping cost. Here are the grader notes...the first one is odd because I bought this book off the rack and never touched the staples...there are some rust spots around the bottom staple, and this may be why they thought the staples were cleaned? Grader Notes staples cleaned interior spine heavy creasing to cover moderate spine stress lines to cover

Asking $700 $750, and the CGC label will be included with the book. Please see below for a photo of the book when it was slabbed, and I've also included the graders notes. The one thing not noted is a tiny abrasion at the upper right of the back cover. As far as I can tell this book has not been pressed, and it looks like it can benefit from a press because some of the spine wear does not break color. Grader's notes: CGC Cert # 1399112001 Title Strange Tales Issue 114 Issue Date 11/63 Issue Year 1963 Publisher Marvel Comics Grade 8.0 Page Quality CREAM TO OFF-WHITE Grade Date 02/21/2017 Grade Category Universal Art Comments Stan Lee story Steve Ditko and George Roussos art Jack Kirby and MR. Ayers cover and art Key Comments Acrobat disguised as Captain America, 1st ""Captain America"" since 1954 1st appearance of Victoria Bentley. Grader Notes heavy wear left bottom of spine breaks color spine stress lines breaks color Additional images of the book when it was slabbed:

Hi everyone, I'm selling my deslabbed copy of Strange Tales #114, formerly CGC 8.0. Those of you who've sold raw books to me in the past know I ask a bunch of questions when I'm interested in a book, and I can say this book has none of the following defects: Loose, detached or rusty staples A loose or detached centerfold Spine splitting Chipping, tears or dents Water stains or smudges I prefer to ship via domestic or international USPS Priority Mail, charge the exact cost for shipping and will cover the cost of insurance. I accept PayPal, checks or money orders. The first gets the book, but I will also entertain offers via PM. Since this book has been deslabbed I will accept a return or make things right should you not be happy with your purchase for any reason. Please No probies and HOSers, and thanks for looking! Art

Passing of Thomas Alan Drew-DJPinkpanther67
silverseeker replied to Iceman399's topic in Comics General
Wow, this is really sad to hear...while I only interacted with Thomas once (I scored a sweet FF #35 off of him), I always enjoyed reading his posts on these boards. RIP, Thomas...my condolences to his family. -
When I got back into collecting in 2000, I chose arbitrary stop points for all of the runs I wanted to assemble to keep the cost of trying to complete my collection reasonable...in the example of my Flash run, I was originally going to stop at issue #160, but decided to pare back to #151 because I love the cover (otherwise I would have stopped at #150).

Been looking for a nice copy of this book for a while... -
R.I.P. Mr. Jaffee... I also mangled many a Mad magazine back in the day to check out the fold-ins... If I remember correctly, me and a buddy of mine created some kind of parody comic back in junior high and made our own fold-ins on the back cover because we thought the concept was so creative.

3.5 for me as well...

I used to love going to this con when it was in Oakland and then San Francisco, and even enjoyed going when it first moved to Anaheim. I have not been since 2018, and it looks like the vintage comic dealer list has thinned out enough where going to the Torpedo show or SDCC makes more sense...
