  1. Now, normally I wouldn't care a whole lot given the low dollar amount and such, but the message above was followed by He's a new user and I was going to discuss with him how things worked here in the forum marketplace, but since he removed himself from the PM thread, I'll bring it up here as a warning to other members (and him, if he's still here, which I kind of doubt). Reneging on a deal is one thing, then snubbing the communication is just rude, IMO. If you fellas feel he's eligible, let me know and I'll provide his name. *EDIT: It just got better. He made a post today in the 'What's new in your collection' thread in the SA forum of some stuff he picked up over the weekend. This was posted 3.5 hours after his PM to me. Maybe he lost his job Monday or this morning, but color me dubious. I believe you have to wait 30 days (which isn't too far away). At that point, you need to make an attempt to contact him, and alert him of this thread. You can also add his name here, after the 30 days. Thirty days from after he tells me outright that he's not going to pay for the books? Or is it thirty days after no contact? Anyhow, I have no problem waiting thirty days, but he has made his indication to me very plainly that he is not paying, then removed himself from the PM discussion and then posted that he bought a bunch of cool stuff at the comic shop over the weekend. It doesn't seem to me that there is much wiggle room there. Just out the doofus and let's move along I've sent him a PM today (triggered by sales threads started by this user). If I don't hear anything back, I'll go ahead and proceed with the addition.
  2. w00t! What kind of stuff can we expect to be coming out of casa de cd4ever this week? Besides drek, that is.

  4. I'd like to nominate a board member for the probation list. Sent invoice on 08/24 for a whopping $13 (two books) and was told he'd be paying by money order. After three weeks, I get the following PM: Now, normally I wouldn't care a whole lot given the low dollar amount and such, but the message above was followed by He's a new user and I was going to discuss with him how things worked here in the forum marketplace, but since he removed himself from the PM thread, I'll bring it up here as a warning to other members (and him, if he's still here, which I kind of doubt). 5. Hey Matt, are you going to make a gallery of these somewhere? (I haven't looked on your site yet, so apologies if you've already done so). It would be great to be able to check all these out in one place
  6. A couple of sales coming up (will run one after the other, not concurrently). Each sale will comprise approximately one short box each of Silver and Bronze books; one box of Marvel and one box of DC. Grades vary, but most are mid-graders. I also have a couple of bronze Marvel price variant books I'll likely list separately so they don't get lost. As with my two recent paperback sales, you can hold your stack to see if there are any books in the second sale that you might be interested and we can settle up at the end of the second. I recently acquired these in a collection I picked up, so are new to the selling forum (for me, anyway ).
  7. As good as these look scanned, they look twice as nice in hand. I'm eagerly awaiting my second piece.
  8. I'll be listing close to 40 vintage SciFi paperback (most in nearly unread condition) starting sometime tonight or tomorrow. I got a whole bunch of these in a couple of lot purchases over the last month and there's no way I'll have time to read all of them so I picked out the ones I want to read most and will let the rest of them go. Some cool stuff from the 40'-60's, centering mostly right in the 1950's. Some big names like Simak, Pohl, Norton, Sturgeon, Jakes, etc. and several by lesser known authors. Stay tuned!
  9. Sometimes. However, it is very, very easy to spoof IPs, use anonymizers and otherwise fool/thwart IP trackers. If someone wants to get past the system, it's very easy to do. I thought you had to use your ISP e-mail address. How many could onepossibly make? Even if they used proxies, shouldn't the ISP address give them away? Is there any way to contact the ISP over this? I say contact the police. It's a death threat. Even if it's just some insufficiently_thoughtful_person trolling, see if you can't get an officer to knock on his door. If he were downloading a movie they would be able to find out who he is pretty easily. You would be very, very surprised at how easy it is. All bulletin board software is different, but none of them are bulletproof, unfortunately. There isn't really a way to limit a registration to 'your ISP email address'. The best you can hope for is eliminate using free email addys (like yahoo or gmail) and try to limit it that way. But even that is a crapshoot. If someone signed up at an Internet cafe with a dedicated/spoof email address, it would be nearly impossible to track the person.
  10. I'm not arguing mate, obviously just crossed wires. (thumbs u It's all good. The perp just got hung so no harm done. I think.
  11. Sorry Booz, just not getting what you're after. Not looking to argue, just not sure what we're even talking about And yes, I saw your highlights, just don't get what you're saying.
  12. It took weeks for TFL and his 'proven beyond doubt' shill to be banned. Well, I wasn't talking about proving that a shill is the same as another user - I was talking about proving that a new user is an a-hole that threatens to put a bullet in your head. That's a pretty easy call to make there. I thought you did. Either way, whichever. They should all be banned straight off. You thought I did what? I guess I'm not understanding your point. But I agree, they should be banned when discovered. There's no room for that kind of here.

  14. Sometimes. However, it is very, very easy to spoof IPs, use anonymizers and otherwise fool/thwart IP trackers. If someone wants to get past the system, it's very easy to do. Not everyone thinks of that. BTW, do iPhone's put a unique IP address or does it just depend on which toward you're connected to? No, usually the only people that think of that are those with agendas that require them to. iPhones do not have a static IP, so that's another case where it's impossible to keep track.
  15. Unfortunately, it's impossible to weed through them all. If someone is persistent enough, there is absolutely no way you can prevent a-holes from registering and the moderators wouldn't even know to suspect until something like this happens (I'm a mod on another forum and have to deal with this all the time). Report 'em and let the mods do their work. I review all of the applications for the CBCA before they get accepted. I'm guessing not too many genuine collectors register here in a day. It seems to me, that it would be easier to review applications rather than spend several hours chasing shills. Yeah, you could do it that way, but this is a pretty large forum with many thousands of people. I'm guessing several dozen register each day (like on the forum I moderate on). I can't speak for the CGC boards, but for my other board, it would be totally impractical to review each one manually - and even if you did you likely wouldn't catch even a fraction of the trolls. Besides, it doesn't take several hours to chase a shill. You just ban them when they show their faces. It takes a lot longer to review the new registrations than it does to ban them once they show their true colors.

  18. Brian made a super quick payment that helped me acquire a grail purchase Thanks for giving my Silver Surfer 4 a good home!
  19. Dude, that is flipping awesome - one of your best yet. Love the gray mist floating about.
