  1. Tomb of Horrors was wicked cool. White Plume Mountain was awesome too. Descent into the Depths of the Earth was cool (3 modules) and there was another one that kind of interfaced with Gamma World where your D&D characters run into a giant crashed spaceship...can't remember the name of that one, but it had a red cover.
  2. Is that Gary as in Gary Gygax? , no...that's me. We typed up the letter and sent it to them and they hand wrote the answers on it and sent the original back to us. I always had the thought that Mr. Gygax gave us the answers, though in retrospect it was probably a secretary or some nerd like us.
  3. It's always easy dealing with Mike, buying or selling. In fact I sold a book to him today that I hadn't even planned on selling before I even knew what happened!
  4. I think this one is the funniest: a mission success rate chart for the adventures that I ran where my friends played the scenarios. I guess I was kind of a hardazz campaign manager (or my friends sucked, one of the two).
  5. Here's one of my characters for Top Secret which also provides proof that I was a comic fan at the age of 14 (real imaginative name for a secret agent, no?)
  6. After the D&D craze died out with my friends, we transitioned to the more adult ( ) 'TOP SECRET', which was actually a lot of fun. Here's a picture of the box and scan of an airport scenario I made for one of the games:
  7. Here's some fictional campaign land I designed back in the day. I have no idea where I pulled the retardo names from
  8. This thread inspired me to go out and dig through some old boxes in my garage. Unfortunately I haven't yet run across the box that has my D&D characters in them, but I did find some other good (and related) stuff. Back in 1981 when I was 13, my friend Donny and I wrote to the folks at TSR to ask some very important questions...and they actually wrote back! Here's the evidence (minus our last names so Transplant can't stalk us):
  9. Was scanning some books for an upcoming board sale and had two cap 4s, one of them felt considerably thicker than the other...turns out it has a double cover as well as a BMG Music insert that the other does not have. Not sure how many books had the insert, but I thought it was interesting that one had it and the other did not.
  10. Working on scanning two long-boxes of recent moderns (mostly 2005-current) that I'll be listing. Most single books will be a buck and there will be some lots in there too at discounted prices. Some of the titles: New Avengers Civil War Secret Invasion Secret War Shanna Thor Tons of Ultimate titles: FF, Extinction, Spider-Man, Ultimates, 1&2, Power, Secret, World War Hulk Dark Tower Earth X FF Hulk Iron Man Mighty Avengers Brubaker Caps etc. Most are NM, most purchased by me. I hope to be done scanning by Tues evening and list from Weds - Fri, invoice Saturday and ship the following Monday.
  11. C'mon man, nobody plays a human. I do have one of those somewhere for the character I used to play all the time, I'll have to see if I can find it.
  12. I have not read City, but it looks interesting - I'll have to pick it up at the local half priced bookstore this weekend. That's a great cover! Earth Abides was great, though I haven't read it for years.
  13. I'll be listing a ginormous lot of Deadworld books later today including: Deadtales 1 Deadworld (Arrow): 1-2, 3(x2), 4(x2), 9 Deadworld (Caliber v1): 10-13, 16-20, 22-23, 25-26 Deadworld (Caliber v2): 2, 4-6 Deadworld (Image): 1-4, 6 Deadworld Archives: 1-2 Deadworld Bits & Pieces 1 Deadworld To Kill a King 1-2, Special Edition 1 Realm of the Dead 3 (Realm/Deadworld crossover) Roadkill: A chronicle of the Deadworld I do have them all scanned so you can check out the individual books if you like. I'll include approximate grades with each as well. They aren't high grade, mostly falling into the 7.0-8.0 range. A nice starter/reader lot. I'm not sure I've ever seen a huge lot of these for sale anywhere. Still working on how to price them - but I'd definitely like to sell as one lot (shipped via boxed priority - they fill the box almost perfectly, including packing material).
  14. I'm too paranoid to be saying anything more than how much I hate Rob Liefeld for ruining comics for me for ten years. Even then, I keep looking for him in my back yard. Those shots of him at the Todd McFarlane signing scared me. By the way, I'll be out of town for a week at the end of May and I don't lock my back door.
  15. Quick payment for a lot of Walking Dead TPBs - thanks g-man!
  16. I'm almost ready to move on to sale number two of a planned half dozen (thanks to all those who participated in the first!) - this one will be a long box of approximately 250-300 Silver/Bronze Marvel readers 12 centers on up, all low/mid-grade and priced accordingly. There will likely be a couple of different price structures - one section for $1 books where you get discounts for multiples (like 10 for $8 or something) and another for the $2-$5 books. I'll know more once I get the piles set up and ready to go. I'll probably start listing mid-week.
  17. Oh gawd. Now I need to have these. Thanks a lot. No really.
  18. So "Slime" came out in '53 and the film The Blob was a few years later. I wonder if it was inspired by Brennan's story or if it's just a coincidence. I thought the same thing, especially after seeing the 1953 WT cover - it appears that it wasn't entirely a coincidence according to this article: Linky
  19. It's funny you should bring up Brennan - I was just checking out Stories of Darkness the other day, but wasn't really familiar enough with him to take a chance. I might have to take a second look. Nine Horrors looks like my kind of book tho!
  20. I'm sure you guys have seen these many times before, but I just acquired my very first two copies of Weird Tales (both with great Hannes Bok covers) and containing my favorite Lovecraft Story of all time: The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward (Parts I & II). Not the earlier or more expensive issues, but the story and the covers make me Two down, half a bazillion to go!
  21. Hey Guys - it's been a while (about a year!) since I have had a proper Annihilus blowout sale and it's about time for the annual event, and this one will be a doozy. I am basically getting completely out of moderns, copper and bronze and selling anything that doesn't fit into my focus (now GA, some SA, Pulps, Horror, Arkham House and Vintage Paperbacks). I would have done this sooner, but have been hard at work on my novel (now nearly complete) and just haven't had the time to dedicate to the proper sorting/scanning/listing that is required of my sales. Now I do. There will actually be several threads (not running concurrently, obviously) broken up into logical chunks so as to hopefully keep folks in their desired element without seeing too much krap in a given thread that does not lie in their interest. For those not familiar with my listings, as with all my sales, there will be scans/pictures of all items (ok, I sometimes miss one) and I will have them all ready prior to listing. There will not be grades for much of the cheap stuff, but you'll have the pics/scans and can ask if you have questions about a specific book. I list quickly and I list a lot - both singles and lots. The thread will usually go three or four days before closing and starting a new one once it drops off the front page. I will include recaps of what is left at the beginning of each day before listing new items. There will be trivia/giveaways and the like and banter is encouraged/welcome. I haven't reached the point where I have definite thread focuses yet, but here are the likely culprits: Trade Paperbacks/Hardbacks/Magazines (Perhaps a couple of longboxes worth) Marvel Silver/Bronze (maybe 2 longboxes) Marvel Copper/Modern (around 10 longboxes) Marvel Releases from last couple years (around 2 longboxes) DC Bronze/Copper/Modern (6 or so longboxes) Independents (The jury is out here, but probably around 4 longboxes) Keys (or semi/minor keys and popular runs large and small) Toys I'm still toying with how I am going to do postage in light of the new Media Mail scrutiny, but will likely steal Bio-Rupp's policy (don't hurt me!) The first thread should be up within the week.
  22. That's pretty cool - someone spent a lot of time creating that. You'd almost have to print out a poster sized version to really get a good look at it (unless you have a giant monitor, which I don't have).
  23. I'll admit to being pretty ignorant of much more than the major goings-on in the GA comics world (with a few exceptions, such as L.B. Cole & EC) since I'm still relatively new to the genre in terms of digging in and researching. What has surprised me though is just how far behind I am in terms of ancillary related interests such as some of the pulps and pulp authors. I had no idea Wellman wrote comics (or stories of Appalachia for that matter). I guess I've been steeped in the Lovecraft/Machen/Blackwood/Bloch corner of the world for too long and it's time to expand horizons a bit. It doesn't surprise me a bit that Wellman thought what he did about comic work being 'at the very bottom of hack writing'. Many authors of the day already thought that pulp writing was at the bottom of the barrel to begin with (and much of it was, frankly), I can only imagine that would carry down even further when one had to stoop to writing 'funny books' which was new and geared towards kids. I can only imagine what HPL would have thought of the genre had he lived to see it. This stuff is great. Hope you all will forgive my ignorance as I get my feet wet here.
